If they were lacing tightly, they may not have been wearing them correctly. I have heard that Tudor corsets were not like Victorian corsets and were not worn as tightly.

Squashing your Insides? What kind of costume designer was making the stays? Corsets/stays are supposed to be made to measure. Plus I have read about corsetry in a book and with a regular one made and worn properly then you shouldn't be suffering and the women who did adorn a tiny waist (which was a trend for only a little while and only done by non working people) would have had it adjusted smaller over time and this was something designed by women and men generally though it bizarre . So put that in your pipe and smoke it

It seems like. One of the costume designers in movies know how to make proper corsets. I mean with all the horrible experiences actresses go through on these sets, you’d think they would’ve learned by now, “oh maybe we aren’t making these right..”

Rianne Either they didn't fit her corset correctly or they tight laced her. Corsets aren't meant to give you an extreme hourglass figure and shouldn't be used to do that. It also could be that she's not used to wearing them, as girls back then would have worn corsets to varying degrees of tightness progressing throughout their childhood. If it's squishing your organs then it doesn't fit!

For those who’ve seen the movie: I was surprised to hear that the first meeting scene was Saoirse’s first day! It was so emotionally intense you would think it was pent up emotion and conflict from previous scenes and months of filming on her end. They both were great in the film. :)
