RED Devil limited OC with custom plates, one i picked up for 1099$, looks quite nice. Still little disappointed with AMD. 55-60w in Idle (4090 idles at 30W ) , 20-30 % gpu usage while watching RU-vid video, performs way behind 4090 while pulling same 435 watts in OC bios mode.
I love Sapphires Nitro+ line, I adored my old RX580 Nitro+ 8gb back in the day the thing ran for years it even did ok at 1440p at the end of it's life.
You are doing the best amd 7000 series reviews. Hopefully you can get the powercolor red devil 7900xtx and the asrock 7900xtx taichi to make a final statement
In contrast to 90% of all other graphic cards from both AMD's and Nvidia's partners, this one indeed looks simplistic, humble (apart from the LED strips), like digging into the design philosophy apple pursues and also reminiscent of Intel's Arc. It's a design that, next to Gainward's GTX Phoenix 10-series for example, I really fell in love with.
I'm glad I saw this vid, as I had seen the card on their site & from the images I saw there I wasn't too impressed with its aesthetics, but it doesn't look too bad here. I won't be getting 1 just yet, as I haven't had my 6900XT Nitro+ SE that long - got it just past the height of the shortages when it cost me about £100 more than what this 1 is going for from the same place (OcUK) at the moment. (£1299.95 @ time of writing)
Thanks, think that's got me to a buy decision. I appreciated the power optimisation stats. Been deciding about which model as I might add a water block one day and this seems to have the best power availability to push it properly
@anthonybalao9517 I did order but then cancelled and decided to spend more on 4090. The nitro gets great reviews and I'm still fascinated by it however I decided I wanted to go all in on witcher3 and cyberpunk raytracing so annoyingly I've gone green team for a while. Watching fsr3 developments very closely though 😉
I have this card for around a year now and it’s served me well. You can get a significant oc from it and it’s a reliable top of the range performance. Close enough on performance to an RTX 4090 but way cheaper I’m glad I switched from Nvidia.
The 1% lows getting worse when overclocking could be due to the undervolting. Your fps could be better but 1% lows worse due to it not being a 100% stable undervolt. Couldve been something else but probably worth a try to increase voltage a little bit and see if it changed anything
Je l'ai achetée et c'est franchement une super carte. Puissance, refroidissement et un look d'enfer.. Tout ce que l'on demande en fait à une carte graphique ;-)
Great review even though i skipped through it, you covered the all important OC/Undervolting/GPU temps with this. Would've been cool to hear how loud it is at 50% fan speed but oh well you can't have everything. Compared to the reference models how noisy is it?
I see that Sapphire are making the three power fuses a selling point. Suggesting that when they fail we can desolder them, find new fuses that match and solder them into place. Or at least someone with the skills and access to the parts can. Which makes me wonder how common it is for video cards to fail and be repaired. In turn are these repairs carried out by a bevvy of board fiddlers with steady hands or do the manufacturers do this under warranty?
Def a great looking card and very good performance. I'm patiently waiting for at least a couple more driver releases from AMD because there has to be a ton of performance waiting to be unlocked in these 7900 range cards. FSR 3 for example whenever that ships will greatly improve frame rates in games that support it. FSR 2.x should continue to see improvements also and I'm betting the current 2.2 version does not yet utilize the new gpu chiplet design optimally yet.
It's a bit limited by PCI-E 4.0, it should perform a little better on 5.0 but not a ton. I think it needs more features from drivers unlocked to give it another boost too, to optimize communication speeds and reduce latency which helps the card out massively. The weak points of chiplet design is thermal and latency basically.
Would love for you to look into how overclocking works with these cards in a bit more detail in the future after driver updates. Im getting this card tomorrow and would find it really useful. Thanks for your review and thoughts
@eTeknix has there been any resolution on the overclocking/fans situation in the past year? I got this card and love it, if there’s a more current recommendation on OC I’d love to hear it
Great review, awesome looking card, too bad for the pricing. But why don't you detail your test setup? What driver did you use? Release on or the slight newer 22.12.2 one? It's said a big Adrenaline driver update is coming this month (probably no FSR3 or HYPRX yet tho) which may improve performance and clocking behavior by quite a bit. Hope you guys give it some coverage if that happens, thanks!
Amazing video bro and Amazing Card (look and performance) but this is really weird, such video should have a lot of hype but there is no proper views u deserve thousands of views and likes bro I'm really sorry to interfere with this but I feel it's not fair to have such low views and likes for such amazing video that u have worked very very very hard to make So, please try to check the name of the video it might be the reason since its very simple or it might be the tags Thanks a gain for the video and wish u all the best
As my RX7900 XTX Red Devil Limited is experiencing hot spot temperature issues lately (105° Celsius) and I have had it RMA'ed before - would you consider the Sapphire RX7900 XTX Nitro+ a worthy replacement?
Hey, good video. Hard to tell if the nitro is worth the extra $$ when the Merc is essentially the same and even surpasses it in some benchmarks. I guess it comes down to overall lowest cooling temp which would mean longevity in the end 🤷♂️....so the nitro wins? Man, I could save $100 thou, lol.
what clock speed did you use for game benchmarks? for some reason AMD Adrenaline base clock it at 2950Mhz..i have to downclock it at 2400Mhz to get bearable coil whine noise... also hot spot temp sometimes go over 85celsius at higher clock speeds than 2400Mhz
AMD should thank you I've just ordered this 7900xtx along with the 7800x3d this coming from i74790k and gtx980 think I will be more than happy with the upgrade 😂
From what I can see, you can remove the backplate without voiding the warranty? I'm asking because I like a lot what XTX is compared to the competition, but I want a white card so I'd like to plastidip the backplate (and maaaaybe even the fan side).
as of now, seemingly not much point in pulling out some slight oc performance increase with this card. id just go for as little power draw and noise as possible
I don't have many resources and that's why I hesitate more in my purchases, but would you say that it is a good purchase for €950, without knowing what is coming in the future in terms of prices or new models?
Beautiful card, if it was available at it's launch $1099 price I'd have bought it instantly, but NewEgg raised the price another $100, so I passed on it.
@@GoofieNewfie I paid $1699 CAD (roughly $1200 USD) for that Pulse version because I know once it sells out it will not be in stock for another 6 months lol. It's that bad. Also it's import and duty fees included (which could be around $200 worth due to tariffs and such) since it has to be shipped all the way from Los Angeles, on top of shipping costs to get here in Canada. It's sold out now and any further ones that appear will likely be more expensive. Good thing I noticed Newegg has zip payments, so it's split into 4 equal payments.
I just walked out of Microcenter with this card for 1199. I'm thinking that everyone is selling its for 1200. I was very hesitant for getting a 7900xtx at the cost of the 4080. What sold me was the aftermarket cooler and Microcenters warranty policy
1210 euro here in Romania. It was on sale for 1070 euro, but I couldn't get it as it went out of stock instantly. I got 7900 XT for 960 euro instead and I am thinking of returning it and get the 7900 XTX as it's a different category. 7900 XT Nitro+ is the one I bought.
For a $999 price tag the 7900XTX OC is on par with the 4090 $1600 dollar card in most performance deltas but it's still TO EXPENSIVE! The nice thing is i have seen people OC their cards and lower the power draw to around 290w and they are still getting huge uplifts in performance and huge drops in temp.
It's not close to the 4090 what are you on about, it even gets beat by the 4080 in some titles and that is without looking at ray tracing, productivity and VR performance
@@sephiroth4543 This particular model of 7900xtx is overclocked out of the box and should run better than a 4080 for gaming in most instances especially with some driver updates unless you're part of the small population that actually uses ray tracing, we're also talking about a $1000 card vs a $1200 card. There's also a tech radar article where they overclocked a 7900xtx and it matched a 4090 on the cyberpunk 2077 benchmark test although it was beaten on other game benchmarks but it's still a $1000 card versus a $1600 card (can't post links on youtube).
@@sephiroth4543 he probably watched this video and saw the average fps numbers on the 4090 and the 7900xtx. Psh how dare he believe the charts that were presented, smh.
@woadraven717 very stupid right, the 4090 is on a completely different tier. You get the 7900xtx if you can't afford the 4080, no other reason. The 4090 is on another level and is the world's best GPU. Anyone who thinks the 7900xtx gets close to the 4090 is stupid and probably is trying to make themselves feel better.
When you do custom OC you have to adjust fan as well. That’s part of custom OC. It will otherwise ramp up the fan to 100% fast. I thought reviewers would know this lmao.
This thing is so huge it barely fit in with my noctua DH15 fan. Two millimeter clearance, I almost had to buy a new case that could support a vertical GPU and riser kit. With a 1k dollar GPU, I'd absolutely eat the 150 on the prior case for a better one. Literally built my PC around this component!
My Pulse 7900 XTX does 2905 clock speed lol. Though in a way, my GPU cost $50 more than the Nitro+ being sold out on newegg. And I can undervolt it as low as 1035mV long term, though with constant stress test I need about 1050mV if I wanna push for 2900+ Mhz. For some reason, sapphire set it to 1150mV stock, which idles at a modestly hot temp.
If I didn't already pick up the reference 7900 XTX and that this being $200 more, I would pick the sapphire nitro without hesitation (if it's just ~$100 more). It's one of the best looking cards this gen and also keeping the length short (320mm) !
They are still very expensive but so much better value than 4090. in sweden xtx is 1500$ and 4090 2500-2800$. having a hard time between this one and the aorus 7900xtx virtually impossible to see a tear down of the aorus that's what I want to see on that card
Hello guys, I just both one of this, exactly this Sapphire one, so the problem is that in games the FPS cant stay constant, In Remnant from the ashes I have 200-250fps and then it drops to 40-50.. I did not manage to get a stable FPS with AMD Adrenaline software... I am thinking to return it and take a more efficient 4070Ti ...
I got the reference card, but my card was already set to 2750mhz memory clock and 3ghz core clock speed boost. When i OC i can lower the volt with 50mv and increase to core speed to 3.4ghz and 2.8ghz memory with a hotspot of 85c°(furmark) awsome card for OC sadly the fans are loud as hell 😅
setting max GPU clock at 3025 I get an effective clock of around 2980mhz, setting the VRAM at 2725mhz I get a speed of 2686 (setting it higher causes artifacts) and have a good undervolt at 1075mV. Now if I set the VRAM to 2500, I can get the GPU up to 3140mhz bur it actually cost me performance. so I think 2686 (VRAM) is perfect.
I want to pick up this card and run it with the 7800x3d i have, but my nr200pmax has an 850watt psu... would that be enough? This card would look amazing in the case.
If you want to be completly sure, go to pc part picker and build your actual pc with the parts you have. It will warn you of compatibility errors or too much wattage for the PSU.
Very nice video not the model I am personally looking at buying, but I am limited to 2 8 pins I am looking at that gigabyte 7900 XTX OC does anyone have any thoughts on this model?
hmm.. as owner of RX 6800xt.. I found the new RX 7900 series is kinda weird.. I mean my RX 6800xt freqncy is like 2200MHz stock.. with OC it's reach 2500 & I got like 8% fps But in 7900 series.. it's like U get from 2500 to 2800 & only U get like 3% fps.. Not sure what's going on.. but apparently 5nm have it's diffrences.. or drivers related.. who knows.. Let us hope next Gen GPUs (late 2024) is better with lower eletricity
Going by the £ prices on Scan in September '23 and only looking at Nitro+ cards for comparison... if you think the 7900xtx may last 10 years before replacement, that's £106 a year. If the 7900xt lasted 8 years, that's £115 a year. If the 7800xt lasted 5 years, that's £108 a year. Which would make the high cost card the best value. And for all the years up to 8 you'd have a better card than the lower cost alternatives. Though using a straight cost per frame, which involves no judgment or uncertainty, the 7800xt wins, with the 7900xtx second. So is 10 years realistic (and are 8 and 5 years realistic)? This is hard to predict and where judgment and uncertainty comes in. Physically the cards should last that long and longer, though there's always a chance of failure. Capability wise, well the old HD7970 was a beast at launch and lasted a decade if you didn't feel the need to always be at highest settings as the years went by. That said, if you need a PSU upgrade to accommodate the xtx then it's potential long term value advantage disappears. Plus through all the years of operation it will consume more electricity, which isn't cost free.
Best AMD Cards: Sapphire (Nitro) & Powercooler (Red devil) Best Nvidia Cards: Asus (ROG Strix) & EVGA (Ultra) "but they don't make EVGA no more" But since they're the best.. they're the most expensive since people always looking for them above MSRP
Why is the card drawing more power when OC’d than the 4090 FE’s stock level? Didn’t AMD claim the 7900 XTX was power efficient? So much for that. Also Newegg’s new MSRP for this GPU is $1200 plus tax. They’re unfortunately the only retailer selling this card in the US market.
yeah they did claim that , turns out it was bs ;) great shame i was expecting these AMD cards to be the efficient good value option they turned out to be hungry
They are not that hungry. I’ve tried to OC my XFX and utilise it in 100% with max power draw at 460w while slightly undervolted and power limit to max. Most of the time you don’t push max fps in a lot of games and you play with capped fps because your refresh rate ain’t 250 and so on. When I play the mmos I play or some single player games I get like 200 to 240w draw
@@01talima the thing is when you look at overbuilt models they usually are pushed way beyond the efficiency curve. I got an rx 6900 xt sapphire toxic extreme which can easily go as high as 450W when overclocked but I put it in the silent bios and undervolted to 1.1V instead of the 1.2V it comes as default and voila: 90% + of the performance for just 280W max. I'm sure you can do something similar with the nitro+ as well. Limit it under 330W and undervolt it to have the same performance as stock but with even less power draw.
These are currently easily available here in Australia. Sapphire is easily my favourite brand for AMD cards. Had a few over the years and currently have a 6800 XT Nitro+ in my system. I love the design of this card... BUT... I'm just hesitant to get this one because those RGB strips are not only HORRENDOUS and way too thick, but it also looks like they're partially blocking airflow. Yes, I know I can just turn off RGB and that this is probably the best air cooled 7900 XTX, but those RGB strips are easily double the thickness I think they should be. @eTeknix You did a teardown. I would love to know if it's easy to remove the RGB strips?
