Its amazing. I get the feeling that Maybelle and Sara were so unconditionally bonded. They both played different roles in country music history, both equally important, and both equally revered. Theres a lot of mututal respect and admiration coming through the audio. I thank the owner of this channel a million times over for the treasure trove of cultural heritage preserved through these uploads.
Thank you so much for your kind words 😊 yes Maybelle and Sara where like sisters more than cousins, I remember Sara’s reaction from Maybelle’s death she took it bad and passed away herself within a few weeks.
I’m so thankful that the generation of young people in the 50’s/60’s loved and preserved so much of the folk songs, old blues songs and original country music. I hate to think of what we would have lost if it hadn’t been for people like AP Carter or Allen Lomax who went after their passion of collecting music. I’m glad that younger generation appreciated it kept it from becoming extinct.
I recently watched a documentary about the roots of country music. Marty Stewart commented on the clothes that AP, Sara and Maybelle wore, they looked like they could have been on the front of a fashion magazine. They played hillbilly music but they carried themselves proudly and represented us well.
Yeah they were always happy when they got together, Sara missed her family and maybelle so much when she left for California in the early 1940s till her death in 1979
This is a treasure... by no way do I mean any disrespect. "Who was brother Bill?" Maybelle: "He was just a man." I always roll over laughing at that comment. I have heard this interview at least 150 times, trying to decipher it in some way. It is so relaxed and so comfortable.... just as I'm sure their performances were.

Sara looks so much like my great aunt. Her name was Edna Mangum Atkins. Good grief they look a like. Love the Carter sisters though and yay i just heard a peacock..
@@carterfamilychannel That's pretty cool and yes i could hear multiple peacocks as the video played on. I grew up with peacocks too. We could only have one male though. The rest never lived long enough to grow their feathers. I believe Mr. Peabody (Our beautiful male peacock) was sort of a serial killer. Females did fine but males never survived. I remember my step dad talking about finding them. It's what stops me from trying to raise them now. I've always loved them. Sorry to get off topic. I think it's neat that Sara raised them. I have really enjoyed learning about The Carter's. I mean of course i knew June and her sisters and we all know the man in black but somehow i ran up on The Original Carter family and i love the music and stories of Sara, AP and Mother Maybelle. I'm disabled so i read a lot. Like i said I'm kinda new to this so if you know any good video's, story's or book's, please let me know. Curious if your kin or just a fan. I am curious what drove Sara and A.P. apart. I need to research this but I was hoping this interview might shed some light on it. It is clear June’s has such a similar voice as Maybelle. This is a gem of an interview.
@@carterfamilychannel - I did watch a documentary that explained it today. Seems A.P. was too much gone looking for material. Sara probably was hugely unhappy with the fame and attention, and A.P. seemed to not be as willing to stay put and be at home. Sara probably was sensitive to abandonment from her loss of her mother so young.
@@owenwilberforce6138 she was left alone all the time with the farm and children to deal with and very little support or attention from A.P, she did try to fix the relationship but A.P was a stubborn man and Sara said his Temper left her little choice but to move out of the family home, she was alone for many years after this away from her children, she met coy again years later after he listen to her on the radio and she said this song is for Coy.
@@theshrivelstein7118 - My understanding is she felt sort of abandoned by AP as he went off to look for songs. It seems she must have felt he was a hard person to be with, as he was always on the go. It is kind of a sad story, but the music they created was truly historic and left it’s mark. What came to be known as “country” music once before was sort of “hillbilly” music, but the Carters brought a real bit of class and weight to the music they represented. So many times A.P. had worked to get out of obscurity and he more than fulfilled that dream.
