I loved the way you described SJM and her series and totally agree: something else I love about her books is she very much acknowledges the trauma the characters go through: in some books they’re like, this person killed 20 people and almost died then the next day went out for ice cream and lived happily ever after 😆 she writes convincingly about trauma and how they deal with it is realistic and satisfying when they get through it
