Life offers us little precious gifts every now and then. I'd like to thank both of these beautiful-in-every-way ladies for this one. Aoife and Sarah are heavenly.
The lyrics, as they sing it: Some tyrant has stolen my true love away It’s here in old England I can no longer stay. I’ll cross the wide ocean all on my bare breast In search of my true love that I love the best. When that I've found out my joy and my delight I will welcome her kindly by day and by night. Here's a health to all lovers that are loyal and just Here's confusion to the rivals that live in distrust. Venus and Volum, they are both joined as one, So keep yourselves single as you and I have done, Oh and keep yourselves single, oh as constant I retire Unto her like some Venus that flourishes like fire. The bugle shall speak, the serpent shall sing There'll be instruments of music for to make the valleys ring. Oh the huntsman he’ll holler and the hounds make their noise All to fill my love's heart with ten thousand bright joys. Some tyrant has stolen my true love away It’s here in old England I can no longer stay. I’ll cross the wide ocean all on my bare breast In search of my true love that I love the best.
It's lovely that you post these words, and they are indeed what most folk sing. I have done a bit of research into this very old song. some of the words seem lost to intelligence, but some can be rescued. "There's Phœnix and Female they are both joined as one, So keep yourselves single as you and I have done, So keep yourselves single, and constant I'll retire Unto her, like some Phoenix that flourishes in fire.
@@helenswan705 Can you share a source for this version? Your "phoenix" line seems to make sense. "Venus and Volum" seems like an error, for Venus' lover was Anchises.
I was blessed last Sunday to see these wonderful women play live in my city, my hometown: Badalona, just north of Barcelona..They DID put Badalona in the MAP of good music. Thanks, ladies, it was a tremendous pleasure, Shared by all the audience! I still have no words to thank you enough for your effort to fly here from Sweden at 4 am in the morning!WE are total fans of yours at home, now: individually and together. You mentioned you were having a BLAST???? We had a tsunami of good vibes and talented music, voices...wow!
Whenever I am stressed out and need some peace, I head for a listen of this song. These two working together is pure bliss. It's not the lyrics (no disrespect for Kate Rusby intended whatsoever) that get me, but the dynamic and the harmony that they create. The sound! As a postscript I must say that I love seeing the sound guy disguised as a birch tree! Well done!
Such a GRRRRREAT duo💚💚 My favorite two singer musicians🌻🦋 Such joy flows through my heart. I'm levitating with bliss from the blend of Sarah and Aoife playing together. Ohhhhh THANK YOU sweet talents of the perfection of sound🙏💚🎶
@@PurpleBooks707 Excellent yes! Just heard a live performance of this song by Shani Saint-Albans - waaay more beautiful then any version I've yet heard.
What a beautiful production, in the Colorado mountains under the aspens. The wonderful music you two beautiful women create for the rest of us adds so much to the quality of our lives. Play on and on. Thank you.
The Bluegrass Situation amazin news..i d like to knw how you recorded thos session please...was is just with the two mic here..? for guitare and voices?amazin job..very great job!
Absolutely LOOOOOVED THIS! Currently you two girls are my very very favorites...so I was SOOOOO HAPPY to come across this treasure!!! I love both of you so much, and listen to you both all day, all night, every day🎶💚💚🎶 What a treasure🎶🙏 🌻💦🌊🧜♀️
This is a truly lovely performance. The voices, of course, are lovely. And the sublime instrumental accompaniment. As an audio engineer, however, I'm curious where the vocal mics are. I see the instrument mics, but they're too close to the instruments to also be the vocal mics. The balance between vocals and instruments in this recording would not be so superb if the vocals were being picked up only by the instrument mics. Can anybody explain this to me?
Nice version by Sarah and Aoife. I'm familiar with this song through the English folk singer Kate Rusby. I don't know the origins of the song i.e. whether it is indeed English or American / Canadian in origin.
I sincerely hope these two girls are lovers. It's an old song, but the degree of integration here is amazing. Timing, tone, everything is just perfect. Surely you've got to know each other to play this well?.
