I swear this is the best Swan Lake pas de deux on earth. The way Sarah uses her eyes and her movements seducing Siegfried are amazing, plus her amazing technique, and the magnificent violinist. This will always be my favorite pas de deux!

Sarah Lamb has some really good Odile like looks here. Deeply impressed by her acting, and I am very picky about my Odiles. That said, she does sometimes have too much of a blank smile. Beautiful use of head on the pirouettes at 3:22 though.

I agree, wondrful violinist which only helps the dancer to do a fantastic pas de duex. Sarah lamb is a joy to watch. Stevem macrae is a super partner.

Note Joy Womack sitting in background, center, fully visible. Her head is tipped slightly left (our view) and her expression reveals a subtle longing. She waves her arm gracefully at the proper moment. Is this all the Kremlin Ballet is giving her? The chance to sit center in a group of 3 watching the principals, longing to be Odette/Odile? It is a poignant moment.

Interesting. Sarah's Odille is much more of a good girl than Zacharova's. Here I can see how the Prince might have mistaken her for Odette. With Zakharova, I can see how he completely lost his head.
@kaitlynclem5967
@kaitlynclem5967 4 года назад
I was just thinking, this Odile is awfully...demure. I guess I'm just accustomed to the Russian flash and sensuality.
@luceafarul579
@luceafarul579 4 года назад
Lol. Don’t compare Zakharova’s black swan with anybody. Hers is the unbeatable golden standard. Other dancers can dance it very very well, but nobody can do her facial expressions, nuances of head orientations and neck, and sensuality like Zakharova. Not even the great Lopatkina. Zakharova is just a fantastic actress who understand what sensuality is. And that’s despite having a stiffer upper body than many ballerinas which she gets constantly criticized on.
@luceafarul579
@luceafarul579 4 года назад
@@giam.2969 it’s also just YOUR opinion that my opinion is stupid. To call somebody else’s opinion stupid while then go off on some own self-righteous opinion is the most stupid thing I’ve ever seen anybody written, it’s called lack of self awareness
@sedekiman
@sedekiman 3 года назад
@@luceafarul579 People, Siegfried is supposed to think Odile is Odette!!! There has to be some attributes that remind him of her. She cannot be a cardboard cut-out of evil. And Zakharova is a cold, painstakingly thin robot. Like so many of the Russian dancers.
@luceafarul579
@luceafarul579 3 года назад
@@sedekiman lol she’s “cold?” Guess you don’t pay attention then. All ballet experts agree that the black swan is supposed to be sexy and sensual as a counterpart to the white swan’s innocence and virginity. And there are only two dancers that ever accomplished that: Zakharova and Sylvie Guillem. The rest just dance the steps and the movements, that’s all. There is no fire, no sensuality, no acting, na da.

Is Joy Womack there??? :0 5:13
@erpollock
@erpollock 6 лет назад
Yes, Joy is sitting in back center on the left of a threesome, watching with what I imagine is sadness and inevitable envy, wishing she were playing Odette/Odile. Instead, she is wallpaper. A few moments of arm movement and reaction to the "appearance" of Odette - and that is all she gets to do. This is what the vast majority of Vaganova and Bolshoi dancers are relegated to in the Kremlin Ballet, a very secondary company without the chance of being noticed. You sit in the background while foreign guest stars hold the stage and all eyes.

They’re both beautiful dancers, but somehow neither of them look right for their roles. Too lightweight in dramatic force perhaps? Or it just might be limitations of attempting to capture a live performance on video. Many times video performances can’t capture and tell the whole story.
@eb4256
@eb4256 6 лет назад
Aves Raggiana I think you’re right. These two dancers are too lightweight (literally) for such a dramatic role.

Eline Channel it looks a bit off with the natural line of the foot I read somewhere that she does actually wear fake arches because she had a serious injury in both of her metatarsals. Its not a bad thing of course but the aesthetic..

No, he needs to be taller, they look almost the same size when she's en pointe and the man should always look taller than women even when she's en pointe.
@liobu3097

Nothing wrong with it. With their exquisite technique and art of dancing, you won’t even notice that because you are mesmerised by them. Mathieu Ganio and Agnes Letestu had were in this same situation. Not exactly a big problem nor a problem. It’s been done commonly than you think.
