What I like the most about the show, is that it picks up where the movie ended. When we encounter Julia, she is already a published author. We see so many times the same story being told over and over. Not in this case. Both film and tv show co-exist and complement each other.

Yes! That was my first reaction when watching the first episode! I loved Julie and Julia, and I thought this show would basically be a redux of that version of Julia, starting at Le Cordon Bleu, etc. I'm so pleased it's not. It feels like a natural continuation of her story!

I grew up watching Public Television shows like "The French Chef", so when I learned about this HBO Max series I had to take a look. In the end I binged the first 4 episodes this past Tuesday, then waited semi-patiently for the 5th to premiere. Sarah Lancashire is amazing - as the phrase goes she embodies the role; I also like her chemistry with David Hyde Pierce as Paul Childs. This show definitely deserves as many awards as they can get - Sarah Lancashire for a Best Actress Emmy!

I cannot properly describe how very deeply I have become enthralled and enchanted with this series. Sarah Lancashire IS Julia Child in this production. I have laughed, and cried, and clapped, and cheered, and laughed again. Mostly, the makers of this series have taken me on a most precious voyage of nostalgia, and given back to me the memory of how much I loved this woman. Thank you so very much.

I used to watch Julia Child on TV when I was little, and Sarah has indeed captured her essence with her performance on this show. Watching the first few episodes put me in such a good mood, as if Julia's love of life were infectious and being channeled through Sarah. And the series has me cooking up a storm! It's marvelous.

I am old enough to remember Julia Child's beginnings and because I love cooking enjoyed her parlaying food even with other greats in the business.I adore Sarah Lancashire in so many films and this unequivocally is her finest moment. My own husband was enchanted with this series and the delight of Sarah capturing the sweet sing song tones of Julia was mesmerizing. I give kudos to the scriptwriters because even the slightest sweet moments captured were memorable. Brava Sarah!

It’s fascinating just how good she is. As a fan of both women (and the actual Julia Child), I knew Sarah would do a great job, but Meryl Streep is just the best actor to have ever graced our screens and I was certain Sarah’s performance would be good, but would fall short of Ms. Streep. I was happily wrong. Sarah’s performance is equally good, if not a touch better, as she is doing it for longer and not sharing screen time with another actor. What a delightful cast as well. Four episodes in and I’m loving it!

Exactly. My reaction during the first seconds of the series was: Why bother casting anybody after Meryl Streep's Julia? But from then on, I was mesmerized by Sarah's performance. And I find it much better, much more mature and subtle than Meryl Streep's.

I try and watch anything that Sarah is in, she's such a great actress and a joy to watch. My favourite scenes of all time are several between her and Anne Reid in Last Tango in Halifax. They are both so incredibly talented and those characters are fabulous.

I really appreciated how the first episode actually includes her struggle with menopause. She is in mid-life but still is charming, relevant and important. Most of Hollywood says a woman is “done” after 40. Julia was just getting started.

Sarah Lancaster is absolutely spectacular in this role, although admittedly it is not the first time that she has proved herself to be a truly great actress. This role has Emmy/Golden Globe etc written all over it. Helps that she gets to play such an immensely likeable character. Another great show by HBO.

Fue una suerte el descubrir a la excelente actriz Sarah Lancashire. Ella hace más que un protagonico, ella es Julia, sin desmerecer en absoluto el gran trabajo de todos los actores. I grew up watching Julia child with my grandmother after school and sometimes before school depending on which PBS station we could pick up. Its like watching my grans best friend on TV. Its heartwarming and heart wrenching to see what she had to go through on her journey to being such a great, around the world personality. I still google and watch reruns of her when I need to learn or wish to learn a new recipe. I cant wait for more.

My husband and I absolutely loved both series - Sarah's acting is impeccable and irresistible but also the other actors are such strong characters too and the dialogue so well written, this was television at its absolute best. So sorry there won't be another series. I guess I'll need to watch the original Julia!

I've watched the first two episodes and only now did I realize that Julia is played by the wonderful Sarah Lancashire! I didn't actually know her name but know her from Happy Valley/Last Tango, Doctor Who, and the few snippets of Coronation Street that I've seen. Usually I see a British actor and know I know them from a show (or seven and one is usually Doctor Who, lol)... but I never once even got a glimmer of her... she was this version of Julia Child from the start for me. I just assumed when I saw her as a lefty here, that the real Julia was also left-handed. Loving the show so far!
