I'd like to give big thanks to Yoder's restaurant for giving out FREE dinners to anyone with flooded homes today. I think that's an awesome thing to do for thier fellow man. Anything on the menu, totally free of charge, no questions asked. Many thanks to the Yoder family or whoever may be the owners. You've given me hope for humanity.
I live in Florida inland in a non flood zone. When I build my house I brought in 60 truckloads of dirt and raised my house 2 feet above surrounding land. You can never be to sure.
@@gimmeshelter1969If your house is more than 30ft above sea level, it’s in non-flood zone area. Unfortunately, most major cities in FL are less than 5ft above sea level.
What’s wrong and what happened is over development my Grandaddy was the water would get higher the more the land was overdeveloped and the natural flood planes paved over and removed. He said this before he died in 1999 he said it would only continue to get worse if you look at the flooding lines and where they built the new houses and how much higher those new houses are built it has destroyed the natural floodplain and caused the issue. What is wrong is the county leaders are allowing overdevelopment of natural resource land that could be used to protect the already existing population from such high waters and the new pattern of water, runoff, and intense rain from storms that wouldn’t have originally accumulated as they did this is the real story and the lesson behind this storm I’ve lived in Manatee County all my life and it was never this bad
@@ShowercurtainU It's about the entire area around it being overdeveloped, the more concrete around you the less the ground can absorb, the more water goes into the creek
People should realize that the insurance companies default to denial. That means you have to keep demanding. They deny 80% of qualified claims which means you must keep resubmitting until you get to the win. Don’t give up and don’t let them tell you “no”.
If you live near a creek or pond or in an area lower than your neighbor, buy flood insurance even if the mortgage company doesn't require it. A basic policy for a "non-flood" area is under $500 per year.
That really sucks... There was nothing anyone could do, Debby dumped a historic amount of rain... More than the stormwater systems were designed to handle.
What the mortgage company should have said was, "it is no longer required." Clearly if you live near the coast and/or near Phillipe Creek or some other body of water you need flood insurance.
Slow moving Tropical storms, with 15 inches rain, will sometimes do much more damage that fast moving hurricanes. Sooner or later,a big hurricane will move into Tampa Bay. Will be totally catastrophic flooding. It's not if, but simply when. A lot of these people just don't understand where they live.
everything flooded because our local governments allowed developers in their pockets and let them re zone land for housing literally everywhere. i run into all these sites they level everything then raise it all up sending any future rainwater into the locals properties. This is a direct result of the amount of building done in the last 4 years but even scarier is this proves how much more development has happened even since hurricane ian.
How devastating! There is no place on the coastal lying areas that is safe. I worried constantly when I lived in Boynton Beach. I left. Imagining starting over leaves me breathless. I pray for these unfortunate people. Move. Get out asap.
my heart goes out to the families impacted, but then at the sametime YOU LIVE IN A STATE THAT IS HIT BY HURRICANES MULTIPLE TIMES PER YEAR EVERY YEAR. it should not be a surprise that this happened and guess what it is guaranteed to happen again next year and the year after.
I’m not even from Florida and I have read on the flooding and sea level warnings in your state. They have a timeline of flooding within the next 10 yrs to be extreme.
I lived in Sarasota for many years (now live further south in Englewood) in a non-flood area but this is tragic - the entire city has been overdeveloped, far too many people, serious infrastructure problems, what are the county commissioners doing with all the tax dollars??
WHAT did they expect??? They live in single story homes in Florida where HURRICANES are a normal thing....that's WHY I won't move to Florida. ANYWHERE in Florida!
The reporter in this story mistakenly referred to the storm as "Hurricane Debby". This is significant. Debby was not a Hurricane when it passed through Sarasota. This is extremely important, because a "Hurricane" triggers the very large deductibles on Homeowners Insurance Policies.
Most of Florida is just a few feet above sea level. The chances you take to live in Paradise. SUN ,BEACHES ,FUN. Suck it up people or move to higher ground.
It looks like I'm about to get flood insurance. People with houses near an open water AKA lake view should be required to have flood insurance. My friend lives near a lake and I was surprised to learn that she doesn't have flood insurance and yet her house is worth about 3 quarter million of a dollars. That doesn't make sense.
I think everyone needs to move out of florida if insurane companies refuse to pay. I heard most insurance companies pulled out of Florida. Let Florida go bankrupt. Rent an rv or affordable place in the winter like Canadians. No need to pay property tax if the state cant even provide insurance for people.
The real reasons flooding is occurring like never before are that both counties have allowed everywhere to be developed and rain doesn’t penetrate concrete and asphalt. Building typical piney woods flatlands know to flood periodically only drain about 6-9 inches per hour naturally toward a river or creek. Developers and Commissioners are both complicit in the flooding misfortunes of these poor folks many from out state know nothing how their 2 million home is submerged in both sewage, snakes, ants and alligators.
