Sarek National Park and How We Failed to Cross It

Sarek national park is often called "The last true wilderness of Europe" and there is a very good reason for that. There are basically no marked paths, no infrastructure, and no cell phone connection.
Add in a very difficult terrain and terrible weather and you have a perfect recipe for disaster. We didn't live through a disaster, as it didn't take one to make us turn back. Just a few miscalculations and scheduling mistakes. And fear that we would become stuck on a random cliff with no help in sight.
But honestly, I couldn't care less. It was a great adventure.

The single most valuable thing you RU-vidrs-hikers can do is to share your difficulties. It decreases the risk that other hikers underestimate the challenges and dangers. Tnx a million!

Great video as always! It amazes me how scenery that feels so normal to me (birch forests) can look so beautiful from a distance. A channel this good only having 212 subscribers is really sad to me, because the missed potential is huge. I'm really hoping this channel gets more popular.

Again, from the bottom of my heart, thank you. I unfortunately don’t have much time lately to produce more videos for my channel, which is probably why my audience might remain small from the time being. Though I’m happy that even a small audience enjoys it.

Looks like you took the same route as me from Skierfe, up between the peaks above the High Rapa route, quite some bouldering and a bit steep, and then as you said a million seas of stone, that was a bit challenging in the long run :) Too bad you couldn't hold out all the way but you learn every time something like that happens, better luck next time.

Since we only did a day trip through there, it was quite manageable. But I can imagine we would be twice that slow in the boulders if we had our big backpacks on. And yes, I hope that next time we'll be able to finish the whole journey :)

Thanks for the video! Nice storytelling, great views. So, for the next time you know to take mosquito repellents and mesh hats 😂 The little nuisances are ravenous on calm nights...

Thank you for the nice comment! We actually had a proper Swedish repelent but it was no use. The mesh hats we though we would not need. Oh, how naive we were :D Anyway, I'm off to watch your video now :)

Kudos to making the best of the situation. Judging the vegetation and snow, it seems you went around June-July? The mosquitos will become much more manageable in late August-September, for any future considerations :)

Thank you so much for your comment! This was actually mid-August and yeah, when I have a chance to go back, I’ll do so even a bit later.

Next time, start your journey some weeks later and the mosquitos time is gone. But then the nights are a little bit cold 😁 Very nice pictures 👍

Thank you so much! Unfortunately due to work commitments I had to go during this specific time. And it is also the reason why I could only schedule 8 days for the trip. Which was pitifully little.

At least you had good weather.

Oh the weather was really magnificent. Which kinda makes it even sadder because we didn’t enjoy the more remote parts of Sarek in this incredible weather.

You didn't bring mosquito nets for your heads? Gosh..

Honestly I wasn't that necessary compared to e.g. Iceland. It was more about the hands and feet, rather than the face.

Sorry buddy but that's hardly a failure. You simply adapted to the changing set of conditions and still managed to have a great outing. I thought you were going to tell a tale about burning your tent down or being attacked by marauding weasels while cooking freshly caught trout for supper. Don't ask.

Oh, you called me on my clickbait😅! Ah well, truth to be told, this is my best performing video so I guess people don’t mind being a bit misled. And I’m sorry, you specifically asked not to but I have to ask, what kind of beef do you have with weasels?
