This video addresses some common issues I have seen with people trying the Sarge Easter Grip and what you can do to correct the problems. If you have any questions or comments, let me know below! #Bowling #BowlingTips #SargeEasterGrip
Always wanted to try this Easter grip but when I ask this question to many pros they say you will have problems but this video helps with my questions hope to hear more content from you enjoy all your vids
Thanks for putting this video together. Its funny to me that you grabbed the rhino as your display ball, thats the first ball i got drilled sarge thanks to all your backlog of sarge content. Good pick!
Thank you for this video. I havent bowled due to aging and me breaking my hand 12 years ago, i used to be a 220 average bowler but last week i got one of my old balls drilled(white dot messenger from 2008 lol) by one of the shop owners here in my town, threw a 230,221 and 189 but after the 3rd game my ring finger was very very swollen to the point i couldnt bend at the end knuckle and thinking about just giving up on bowling until i came across this video, i may go out and buy a cheap ball and see what the pro shop thinks on this grip and try it out. Appreciate the information on this video and keep up the good work!
Years ago Mo Pinell owned the Mohawk Lanes up in Rome, N.Y. I was a pretty good young left hander then. We had a 4 game classic league at 9 o'clock on a Friday night. The real action would start after bowling when we would lock the door and party til the sun came up! Which is a whole other story not fit to tell here. Anyway, talking. to Mo one night about having a bit of a problem scoring. He told me to bring him a ball I thought hooked 4 boards too much, he plugged the ring finger in my black Angle and drilled the Sarge Easter Grip in it without telling me what it was. I consistently bowling over a 1000 every set with an occasional 900. The man was ahead of his time with ideas about the game and gave me some valuable help that I still draw upon.
Excellent! I have been curious about this grip. Although I am not willing to try it, because I don't think I need it, the video provides excellent advice. I feel like I already have more stress on my middle finger than my ring finger on a "conventional" fingertip grip.
Just had it done last night. Rolled around 3 games on a Phaze III. Feels good so far and it seems like the ball "works" better. Maybe I'm getting more efficient motion? Have pain from previous pitch issues but seems less strenuous. Giving it time to get used to it. Thanks for the info! Extremely fortunate to have a knowledgeable pro that didn't automatically shut me down when I recommended it.
Well im finally making the switch, dropped 2 off with PSO to get switched to sarge, going to pick them up today. This vid was big part of me making switch. Keep up the great vids.
Since I remembered having tendon issues from bowling 20 years ago, when I went to a pro shop last year to get a new ball so that I could start bowling again, I asked for the Sarge grip. The pro shop owner said “You don’t want that”. He also told me to throw away my brand new wrist brace that is supposed to help prevent tendonitis. So after bowling a few games for fun last year, guess who had tendonitis? Why are there so many “know it alls”!
Great info. Just started bowling again after almost 30 years, man have things changed. So i now have my first finger tip ball at the suggestion of the shop pro. My ring finger and wrist hurt after a few games. My first game is usually decent and I go downhill from there. Considering either trying the Sarge Easter grip, or going back to conventional.
Nick - this is exactly what I needed. Had switched over, but still having pain in my second ring finger joint. Currently have one plugged up to try a touch shorter span and new pitches. Thanks!
@@brunsnick- still getting some pain in my ring finger second knuckle. Feels like I am almost hyperextending my ring finger upon release. Any thoughts on this?
Good info, i was wondering about the finger holes in your bowling balls. Personally, I'm not interested in switching. After decades of basketball with both middle and ring fingers being broken at different times, my fingers are crooked AF.
Answeref a lot of the common problems. Very knowledgeable video. Been thinking about it because of arthritis in the thumb. Would like your thoughts on using this grip for that reason
Thank you for taking the time to talk about the grip. If you don’t mind me asking I have two questions. Does this grip help with hand swelling? Is there a place to get a layout for it to get started? Thanks for the valuable feedback.
Lowering your grip pressure and friction upon release will minimize swelling. Any pro shop pro can fit you in this grip, but if you’re having swelling issues, get your issues looked at first.
Can you explain how to use vent holes? Like I imagine that tiny hole goes all the way down and meets the ring finger hole down lower than where your finger actually goes in. How do you measure that, both location of the hole and pitch? What size bit is that?
Hi Nick! Love your channel. I've recently started to struggle with discomfort the first knuckle of my index finger (where palm and finger meet). Been working with PSO on pitch changes, rolling grip, etc. Do you think a sarge would help relieve pressure from that area? Or, since this grip is intended to take stress off the ring, would it add more to that side of the hand? One handed, thumb in bowler. Thanks!!
Nick, when you get the Sarge fit right such that it almost feels like your ring finger isn't even in the ball, as you described, do you naturally get more axis tilt and rotation? I remember Mo Pinel often talking about reducing the influence of the ring finger if you want to increase tilt and rotation. One other question - just a curiosity - does that little vent hole intersect the ring finger hole somewhere below the surface?
The grip never really affected my tilt. That’s something that shouldn’t always be static anyway. My tilt will change as I’m playing different parts of the lane. And yes, the vent hole hits the bottom of the ring finger to vent air.
I had been working with Mo Pinel on my grip as I have dupuytren's disease and we moved to a Sarge eater grip now my biggest issue is I have zero tilt.... No matter what I do I can't seem to get any tilt.
good video,i switched to this grip after having tendon issues in the ring finger and it was working well..drilled another ball but pro shop owner changed the span of the finger holes now im having pain in the middle finger tip,any ideas?
65 just decided to start bowling again. Bowled 2.5 games with a 16 lb ball. Still have lingering pain in the ring finger 10 days later. Will a 14lb help or should I try the Sarge Easter grip in a lower weight ball?
The sarge grip helps the ring finger if you have problems, what can you do if the issue is on the middle finger , tried shorter , more reverse , still has alot of discomfort do you have any suggestion for this.
@brunsnick tried that, tried shorter span, tried more reverse , tried also using index finger non really work. The reverse sarge was more comfortable not sure I was coming out the ball correctly.
Nick, my 15 year old daughter has issues with squeezing her grip to tight at times causing her to carry the ball across in front of her body by the time she get her fingers out of the ball. Do you think the Sarge Easter grip might help with her grip pressure? She is left handed and throws 15# balls with finger tip grips with approximately 14 to 14.5 miles per hour speed and lower rev of 250ish.
No probably not. I’d suggest maybe a refit or at least get the thumbhole more snug. The more she can relax her hand and grip pressure the better. She’s still growing so maybe the span needs to be addressed. A lot of times with youth it’s because the thumb is way too big.
Her span is correct, our pro shop guy refitted her a few months ago. Would a pitch change in the fingers and or thumb help? I would have to check with our PSO to see what they are at now.
Plugged the ring finger in an existing ball and drilled the ring finger for the Sarge Easter grip. Went half and half with the pitch and it felt very comfortable. Came out of it clean. Only issue i had was I didn't feel locked in, if anything it made my middle finger feel like it was short/shorter. I kept my thumb at 1/8th reverse. Anything you can suggest to feel more locked in?
It’s possible that the span there was measured a bit too relaxed. Does it only feel short on that side? Could also snug up the finger hole with tape. Snugger the better
NICK!!!! This vid is right on time!!! I’ve been using Rx arthritis cream under a golf glove (almost like PDW except without any hand…). Osteoarthritis in the ring finger leaves me achy for days after just a 3 game set. I’m going to talk to my PSO at Demo Day tomorrow. BTW…that shot with Mo…just brought a smile!!!
how hard is it to get used to this grip? I haven't thrown it yet, but ball is drilled and ready. guess I should just throw first few pretty slow. I gripped it to see what it felt like. while the ring finger was in the ball, I felt the ball on that finger on the left side of it and none on the right. not sure if that means the ring finger hole was drilled to much to the right. I'm a right hander. keep up the great videos bud.
Have a bigger hand. Middle finger is 4 3/4. Current pitch in thumb is 1/8 back. Should I start at zero pitch in the thumb to start to make sure I can clear it?? Great info as always, thanks.
@@brunsnick had my GB2 switched over to Sarge Waster last week and shit a season high 706. Down side still having thumb issues. Going to look into changing my thumb pitch. Thanks
Sir. My ring finger will not bend at 1st knuckle. Broke it in high school, had surgery & they cut the out knuckle and pined it. Should I try this grip?
My pro shop operator drills my balls the same he has but he just dropped my ring finger and it feels like it just sets and doesn't do anything but I love it alot I can get a more control compared to my fingertip balls
