In 85...I was lucky to of met him in a bar in Bristol...he was filming sheriff og nottingham...I was in 1 Para and we hit it off...spent a week going out on the town he met my Mum and she nearly fainted...great guy
He borrowed a hat from my granddad when he was studying acting - had to ride his motorbike back to London in the rain. I wore that hat to death when I discovered _Body_ had worn it! The thing that always grates in this film is the way the Regiment guys always wear commando hats as if they're storming a cliff. Incognito is a major part of their mo..
Was 8 when it happened and 10 when the film came out! Lewis Collins was my hero back then and this nostalgia trip brought a tear to the eye! RIP to the best Bond we never had ✌
Well duh. You think the SAS are going to advertise and post RU-vid videos ? Nobody had heard of the SAS until the tv pictures of these blokes abseiling out of helicopters above the Iranian Embassy in Prince's Gate. Then it became a media frenzy. I remember a party around the time this film came out. Three guys turned up dressed in black with black balaclavas and masks. Each had a big letter on his front. S, A and S. They all wore bandoliers for ammo, with beer cans instead of magazines and stun grenades. I seem to remember a beer can being detonated. It was all a bit silly really. And yes, the SAS are still there.
Excellent movie of a time gone by. Fabulous storyline and great cast. Lewis Collins was underated as an actor. He would have made the perfect James Bond. Rest in peace. 12/10/2019.
Lewis was the best James Bond we never had! Lewis said Bond Producer, Broccoli told him in the 80's, that he had been discussed as a possible Bond around that time! But he was concidered by the production team too rough & tough to be a James Bond!!! & so with Daniel Craig's current (much needed & brilliant) tough reboot of Bond, can we say that Lewis was ahead of his time as an action dude?? 🤔 What a quality geeza!!!
he certainly looked good in a white mack. he really couldn't look hard in civi's he looked like he did in the Cuckoo Waltz, debonair and a bit camp. his walk was led by his shoulders.
Lewis Collins walked the walk and talked the talk. He was a member of 10 Para and it's said he was rejected for 23 SAS selection only due to his high public profile. In real life a nice bloke. RIP.
@@michaelanderson7715 wrong he was rejected after selection he was with them for 12 months in total due to breaking a ankle, He was then given a choice give up tv work and he could join, It’s well known amongst those that were in at the time
Love this movie. The SAS of the United Kingdom, the worlds first and best special forces regiment. Lewis Collins was brilliant too, he was great in the professionals as well.
Thanks man for uploading this! First seen Lewis Collins in the Professionals way back 1980's. He and other actors gave me the impetus to join our armed services and fulfill my dream of becoming a soldier. Truly appreciate this man.
sweet, still think they should have got him to play Bond, James Bond. Recon he could have done a spectacular job. He just had that real character... eh?
My favourite film of all time!!!! This film inspired me to join the US Navy to fight terrorism. The day after watching this film my mother caught me dressed in a black flight suit and gas mask in my room. She was quite shocked to say the least. The hair on the back of my neck stands on end every time I hear the theme song.
Probably already said many times but Lewis Collins actually passed real SAS selection and was an honorary member. Not the greatest actor but a very cool guy.
I don't know how true this story is as a friend of mine told me - he was a soldier at the time. In 1980 there was a secret competition held between the worlds elite special forces. The US Navy SEALS, Canadas TASK 2 force, The French Foreign Legion, The Green Berets, Australia's Special Taskforce and the British SAS as well as others. Apparently, a special training circuit was erected in a jungle in South America. Climbing nets, brick walls, swing ropes and all sorts of obstacles. Every team would do the circuit as fast as they could with the fastest time being the winner. Complaints were made at the start because apparently the Americans had been there some days before and had s chance to try the circuit out. All the other teams were to do the circuit without any knowledge of it. Thus the Americans had an advantage. As it turned out the Americans did set the standard with a super fast time of 1 hour and 3 minutes. The French Foreign legion came close with 1 hour 8 minutes. Most of the other contenders completed the course at around 1 hour 15 minutes. The British SAS were the last to go and complete the course in 22 minutes. 😎 Make of that what you will.
Yep its true, I was British army, we did a visit to US marines jungle training camp and beat them on their confidence course, early 80s just before Grenada . they were well pissed off.
The course was built by one of the SAS lads who was a former Sapper with the Royal Engineers. They had all of the short cuts figured out and time for a quick pint or three after each obstacle. Chuck Norris was well peeved as he came second. Steven Segal was a non-starter and was last seen sulking while attempting to hitch a lift to the nearest pizza parlour.
This is my all-time favourite film and great acting from Lewis Collins, and it`s 40 years ago next year when first released, and also that my brother Tony and myself went to the pictures to see this film and I still like it and good acting from Richard Widmark, Edward Woodward [my late mother`s favourite actor and singer] and I do miss Lewis Collins so much now and he`s still a great professional for me.
The operation at the mews house is properly tense, the ladies act it out really well, Helga is a proper villain. Love the troopers taking them out with pistols. Proper close quarter stuff. Then the break in at the Ambassador's residence is superb. Love the radio chatter between the units and Colonel Hadley throughout the operation. I must have watched both sequences a million times. Love this movie.
@@earlgrey691 it’s like comparing Delta to Navy Seals. They do a lot of cross training too and of course are all part of the same initial training. However those that decide to go SBS do additional training for beach recce's, submarine launched warfare, naval sabotage, diving, oil rig protection. SBS - Silent Warriors is a great book that goes into their history.
@@earlgrey691 If you counted all the people who claimed to have been in the SBS+SAS we'd need cruise ships to get them around. If they ever ask for volunteers my hands are staying firmly in my pockets. Feck that.
I mainly remember Collins for this movie, The Professionals and the miniseries he did with Michael Caine, Jack the ripper. He should have been in more movies for sure.
Little known fact. The then head of the regiment Peter De La'Billiere wanted the movie shut down but once he knew the film was going ahead regardless he opens a few doors. The scene at the beginning where they enter the camp, that really was Sirling Lines the then base of the SAS. Also at the last minute De La'Billiere told there stunt team who were doing the final assault to stand down and his guys would do the assault. So the final assault is done by real SAS troopers which is why it looks so perfect and slick and why at the end when Lewis is discovered by Steve (actor) the other guys do not pull their respirators up even though Steve does because they are real SAS troopers. That must have been a buzz for Lewis knowing although he is an actor he is leading a group of real SAS troops , the best in the world down the hallway. Lewis got to hang out with some of the SAS guys doing filming and drink with them an they all said he was a top man and the real deal. R.I.P Lewis!
My dad let us watch The Professionals. I was under 12 when this came out, my sister had a crush on Lewis & she was 13. My dad would take us for a double feature on Saturday afternoon once a month. We saw this & The Soldier (Ken Wahl ). Now that is how you parent.
wow, great double bill, back before the censors would even allow a kid permission to see an x,i remember me mam taking me to see exterminator and death wish 2 on a double bill,my mum never saw it as taking me to see a violent movie, its just that back then she could smoke in the pictures,it was child admittance for free and it shut me up for 3 or 4 hours while i gorged on popcorn, even the thought of no smoking ban in the cinema seems like ages ago, which it sure was.haha
Lewis Colins Passed SAS Selection for 21 SAS The Artists Rifles but by mutual agreement he didnt continue onto Continuation training as he was way too high profile at that time he was doing the Professionals at the time but Passing selection in of itself is a fantastic achievement
I was fortunate to have met Lewis Collins at a train station, he was dropping off friends. He turned and said hello to me and my fellow dancers. What a gentleman, but he was also the real deal tough guy. He did pass selection for the SAS.
Saw this at the cinema when it was released in 1982. Enjoyed it then and will no doubt enjoy watching my recent purchase of it on blu-ray. R.I.P. Lewis Collins. One of the best. A true Professional.
Wow can you get this on blue ray??? Im in Australia but. AS id so love to have it. Many memories watching this many times before leaving for my day on the bus to Recruit Training for Australian Regular Army there On woulds from there. How I miss the military life ever day I wake up now
Hi Iceman, Thanks for uploading this. I used to have this on VHS but obviously not now. A classic, which is one of my all time favourite films. I am ex military so can relate to it although certain procedures are different to real world for obvious reasons. Lewis was superb. A class act and so down to earth. He should have been James Bond. He was made for that role and they got it wrong on that one in not making him 007. He would have overshadowed Sean Connery and that's saying a lot coming from a Scotsman that also lived a short distance from where Sean grew up. I have Subscribed your channel. Thanks again to a fellow Lewis Collins fan. Steve in Scotland.
thanks for your comments ,sean connery actually played a former SAS commander in a film called The Rock ,worth a watch .Iv always admired the SAS for being up there with the best and as a kid watched the Proffesionals .
I love this film but the end to this is so poignant. In real terms, we go in and kick ass like in the Iranian Embassy and then some politician sucks up to someone from abroad intent on doing furhter harm because of some oil deal or other such thing. The politicians are far more violent that any SAS soldier or officer, in my estimation. Great to see this again on here. Thanks for posting. You made me order the film again on DVD.
He has the charm, the toughness, great in the fight scenes, and is great with weapons (watch the scene when he turns on the hostage guards), it is everything needed in one scene
Sadly he was a little.. There were several incident of him chasing people out of his home firing a shot gun over their heads and he himself claimed that the part of Bodie had actually affected his mental health ..It is very sad ..He was not a bad man but he was troubled and I will always be a fan.
I also really liked Lewis, very underated but a troubled man who had issues with celebrity/real life demarcation. I can sympathise as acting well makes you "Become the Character" I believe this is the reason so many great actors have mental health issues, and being chased around by idiot fans...lol.
This Film got absolutely slated by the critics (in their no doubt Superior wisdom) but I think it is really well made. Judy Davis lets the cast down a bit but the rest of the characters are really sell portrayed and likeable (even the Environmentalist, peace loving lefties who want a better world for us all) The action scenes are good and Lewis colliins looks perfectly at home in the role, Thanks for the splendid upload.
You can't be serious...She is electrifying and intense in the entire movie! Just like what the character asked her to be. Letting the cast down? An actress like that?? She is the best among the whole cast. The guy Lewis Collins(sorry, you may all love him here in this comment section) is almost with no expression at all in his face during the whole movie! He is here in this particular film as the classic action movie actor: when you don't need to be great but demonstrate toughness and be in great shape. I mean, nothing against him but it seems strange(to say the least) someone commenting an action movie saying that the most amazing actress in the cast is the one letting the cast down.
@@danielemoura1983 No offence but you obviously must have not watched the film as there were moments when Lewis did show different emotions and expressions, plus his role is that of a hardened SAS killer not a florist! What would you rather he do? Break out into song and sing Les Miserable whilst telling jokes?
This was the first time in where I watched Judy Davis in a different film role and she was brilliant. She's also brilliant at playing Judy Garland. To see her play two different roles was amazing and incredible to watch
Edward Woodward does a great turn in this, as does Lewis Colins. Ingrid Pitt is legendary. Proper movie and a British classic. Well done for the upload bro.
Lewis Collins, a legend, the part of william bodie 'in the professionals was what he was born for, RIP Lewis, thanks for being part of my growing up and being a shining example of British military heroism.
Thanks for the upload, I watched this film years ago, the siege on the embassy and Lewis Collins home are still the best parts of the movie. It came out 2 years after the Iranian embassy siege in London that was shown live to the nation. I was glued to the TV. The first time our people had seen OUR special forces in action, it still gives me goosebumps when I think about it. I am so incredibly proud to think of the thankless work that they do here and abroad attempting to keep the maniacs at bay and our borders safe.
Mr Collins was kind enough to have a slash behind my dad's van at Western on the Green back in the day. My old man's mate took him up in a glider as memory serves.
Lewis Collins. One of my favourite actors .he played the part in this.he passed course to join sas after serving time in the army.but wouldn't take him on because of his acting career. Brilliant in the professionals. X
Lewis Collins was the original 80s Action Man. He even looked like the toy Action Man back then. Great to see both he and Edward ‘The Equalizer’ Woodward again. RIP to both 👍
One shag and he gets offered a job that paid higher than a Major General at the time and moves in with his squeeze. Must have been a hell of a performance!
Lewis Collins acting style really made this film, but great movie plot too. No doubt inspired by the real life events that unfolded in London with the Iranian Embassy siege when the SAS counter-terrorism unit were first glimpsed by the world in action across the world. For those not in the know, Lewis Collins co-starred in the British popular TV series The Professionals, 2 MI5 troubleshooting tough-guys the government called on to deal with nasty people! Well worth a watch if you can find them.
Soo glad for the one who uploaded this movie brings out the best of Collins Lewis entered the s a s in real life and past with flying colours but sadly couldn't carry on because he was a Celebrity
My favourite film of all time. Apparently Kubrick and Spielberg were both fans also. So many amazing quotes. “I’m gonna try that bed. My knees are killing me”- Captain Peter Skellen.
Roy Budd did a fantastic job with the music to this movie as it enhances the movie so much. the director of this movie did a fantastic job too with the action scenes what you see is 1000% accurate to real life with the S.A.S action scenes. If you come up against the S.A.S as a terrorist then you are as good as dead as they take no terrorists alive as they must keep their identity secret.
Such a classic film 👌 I remember watching this firstly when I was younger with my grandfather who fought in WW2 and the reason i joined the British army, and again when I was in my basic training sat ''bulling'' our boots for our passing out parade 🤣 And now years afterwards watching it while I wait for my lorry to be unloaded
This is one of my all time favorite movies. From the intriguing initial song until when the Colonel gives the word to attack. The actress could have been someone more cute though, I think.
NO hes not a Liar Dick Head... Lewis Collins DID pass Selection for the Territorial SAS its well known by Anyone thats served in the Military..Learn your facts Son
There is no 21 SAS in the UK; it's the 22. Reg. only or rhodesian C-squadron, if you'd like. Not even "The Increment" would do this for the SAS; the SAS are not qualified for such assignment. Watch video "The Swiss Beast - Home of the Devil" for more intel.
You would be wrong. 21 SAS is a reverse unit as well as 23 SAS. The force make up is as follows. 21 SAS(R) HQ based in London, A Sqdn based London, C Sqdn based East Anglia and Wessex, E Sqdn based Wales. 23 SAS (R) HQ based in West Midlands B Sqdn based Yorkshire and Humberside D Sqdn based in Scotland G Sqdn based North and North West England.
THANK-YOU!!! I haven't seen this movie in years! I was a big fan of "The Professionals", and I loved the action in that series and in this movie. There is just something about British action/spy movies and shows that hit it right on the mark. They are gritty, and as far as I can tell, realistic. I really appreciate the upload.
Skellen's mews house has been used in several productions. It also is blindingly obvious we don't need American-style "incidental music" for a superb movie.
Brilliant movie, God bless the SAS, the Best. Thank heavens for realistic films where the guys do not fly 50 feet when they are punched or shot, it is a shaky plot but then again aren't all terrorist incidents? Great technique and most authentic for the time of filming, thanks.
Have not seen this for ages, loved the Professionals and agreed Mr Collins would have probably been the best Bond, ironic they said he was too aggressive to be considered at the time yet Mr Craig is exactly that, how times have changed, anyway RIP one of my all time favourite actions stars, massively under-rated and under used..
@@pr-tj5by They only went with Dalton because they could not get Brosnan back then as he was filming Remmington Steel and it was a total flop. The studio cancelled the programme but the production company had the option to film one more series which they did only out of spite to stop Brosnan from being released from his contract. By the time his contract ended he was in time for Goldeneye!

Lewis Collins Amazing actor, had the perfect look visually, mannerisms and rugged style to play Bond. Would of been the best Bond to date. Perfect characture, sophisticated and tough. Very sadly missed RIP Lewis.
A classic British movie of its day. Lewis Collins was a 1970s TV action legend, and a TA Parachute Regiment soldier in real life. Judy Davis had great chemistry with him in this movie..
