What’s the difference between SAS Enterprise Guide and SAS Studio? How are they similar? Just ask SAS’ Danny Modlin. In this SAS How To Tutorial, he steps through a side-by-side comparison to illustrate differences such as included tasks, current procedures like GLMSELECT in SAS Studio, and how you can see and edit code in each product.

Is SAS EG capable of parallel computing a single task(on the grid) in a process flow? Or is that something relegated for SAS Studio and DI Studio, etc?
@chrishemedinger1382
@chrishemedinger1382 2 года назад
Many customers use SAS EG with Grid Computing for load balance of users/tasks. You can use parallel processing in a single task (program node) if you mark up your code with the grdsvc_enable() functions that indicate which parts of your program can run simultaneous. Note that not all programs run faster (real time) this way -- depends very much on the job/work to be done.

Does the new SAS/Studio now support project concept like egp files ?

Thank you for asking! While they are not one-to-one equivalents, SAS Studio has process flows (in the Visual Programmer perspective), and can convert SAS Enterprise Guide projects into SAS Studio process flows. You can learn more about this in our SAS Studio documentation: 1) "Working with Process Flows" 2.sas.com/6055HccIS 2) "Converting SAS Enterprise Guide Projects to SAS Studio Process Flows" 2.sas.com/6056HccIs As you may know, SAS Enterprise Guide also has process flows, and beginning with SAS Enterprise Guide 8.1, projects are no longer required. Please see our SAS Enterprise Guide documentation for more details: 1) "Am I Required to Use a Project?" 2.sas.com/6057HccIt 2) "Working with Process Flows" 2.sas.com/6058HccIQ

Will Enterprise guide be replaced by Studio in the future? Is that what your are telling given that it seems somehow better equiped? Thanks.
@SASUsers
@SASUsers 2 года назад
The short answer is no, SAS Enterprise Guide is not being replaced by SAS Studio. Here is a blog regarding SAS Enterprise Guide: 2.sas.com/6052JmsX8 .

Would you consider losing the white board effect of SAS EG vs SAS Studio a big difference (ability to nicely see workflow of code and tasks)? I am new to SAS Studio but I don't see the option to do this? I would consider this the big reason why I don't want to switch.

Hi Walter, Here are some resources regarding the differences and similarities between SAS Enterprise Guide and SAS Studio: 2.sas.com/6059JP5HR and 2.sas.com/6052JP5Hp . SAS Studio has a Visual Programmer perspective with Process Flows. There's a SAS Global Forum video that illustrates this feature, here: 2.sas.com/6053JP5HV . In addition, there is documentation on how to convert EG Projects into SAS Studio Process Flows: 2.sas.com/6054JP5Hn . SAS Studio has a Visual Programmer perspective in addition to the Programing perspective. You can read about Visual Programmer perspective here: 2.sas.com/6055JP5HX and more about working with SAS Studio Process flows is here: 2.sas.com/6056JP5Hk . If you want to ask questions of other SAS Studio users who have transitioned from Enterprise Guide, you might want to post your question in the SAS Studio Community Forum, here: 2.sas.com/6057JP5HZ .

There's a persistent issue that I've been experiencing on SAS EG 7.1. When I try to create a table of contents page using ODS PDF, the TOC page does not get generated but when I run the same program on SAS Studio, the PDF output contains a TOC page. I tried to reach out to technical support, but there was so much back and forth without any solution that eventually I just gave up.

Hello again, Athenkosi! We offer two options to resolve technical usage issues like yours: 1) Our SAS Support Communities: these two posts will show you how and where to post about your issue: A) How to get fast, helpful answers 2.sas.com/6050HcNor B) Where do I post my question in the SAS Support Communities? 2.sas.com/6051HcNoT 2) SAS Technical Support: we reviewed your track, and see you stopped responding after being asked for more information to help diagnose your issue. We're sorry you felt it was too much back and forth. It often takes several cycles of email questions and responses to get the information needed to resolve issues. We recommend following up with them so they can continue to help you with this. Your previous track has been archived, but we're happy to open a new track for you - please let us know if you'd like us to do that!

Hello yet again, Athenkosi! We found some things that may help with the issue you are having: 1) Correct Documentation: A) The ODS PDF Statement documentation link you shared in your Technical Support track is for our older SAS Viya Data Mining and Machine Learning offering, and not for SAS 9.4. B) The current ODS PDF Statement documentation for SAS 9.4 and SAS Viya 3.5 Programming is here: 2.sas.com/6054HcAVm and the specific example you are referring to is here: 2.sas.com/6055HcAVW You will notice the example code is different. This code *should* work in SAS Enterprise Guide. 2) An explanation: A) You said running your example code in SAS Studio creates a table of contents in the PDF output, while running it in SAS Enterprise Guide does not. SAS Enterprise Guide creates wrapper code that includes ODS statements based on the default results options. That wrapper code may interfere with ODS statements in a user's program, like the example code you are running. B) This blog post has more details, and explains how to change your program properties to suppress the wrapper code and get the results you want: "Take control of ODS results in SAS Enterprise Guide" 2.sas.com/6056HcAVo C) This paper explains even more, and describes using ODS CLOSE statements (as included in the example code from 1B above) to suppress the ODS wrapper code: "Destination Known: Programmatically Controlling Your Output in SAS Enterprise Guide" 2.sas.com/6057HcAVU We hope that helps - please let us know! And keep the options in our earlier reply in mind for future SAS questions or issues!

How can i download the sas enterprise guide and we can access to direct cloud data import in a sas enterprise guide
@SASUsers
@SASUsers 3 года назад
Karan, we do have SAS Enterprise Guide available for professors teaching students but it is not available in our individual learning products like SAS OnDemand for Academics. SAS Studio would be the interface you would work with. If you need more information on how you can license SAS Enterprise Guide, let us know!

This article may explain the ways that SAS can read data from Amazon cloud data: 2.sas.com/6058yzIJi and you may find this blog useful: 2.sas.com/6059yzIJc . However, please keep in mind that many of the SAS components and data connectors listed in these resources are part of a SAS license and are not available in the free access to SAS and SAS Studio on the SAS OnDemand server. If you have a license for SAS at your company and are working with AWS data, the way that you access the data will be determined to some extent by the way the data is stored in Amazon and the SAS licensed components. For more help with this question, it would be better for you to work with SAS Tech Support. They can look at your company's licensed components and provide you with the best advice for how to accomplish what you need to do. If you would like to be contacted by someone to discuss licensing SAS, please email us at SAS_Cares@sas.com

Hi there! SAS Enterprise Guide is available with a site license or can be used with SAS OnDemand for Academics depending on your role. For example, professors who are using Enterprise Guide as part of their classes can register their students for Enterprise Guide. Let us know more about your role and if we can offer you further assistance! For more information on SAS OnDemand for Academics, please see our Q&A section here 2.sas.com/6057GxK1T For more information on getting started with SAS Enterprise Guide, please see our video here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-7dhTeyxefZ0.html
