Great video. This brings back so many memories. I was stationed at base communications from 69 to 73. I didn't want to leave! Among other places, I hung out at Katie's bar in crazy corners (very hospitable joint),. Stands bars Honey, Konpa, Nina and Word in saketown. Last but not least, snagging a good spot at snack Paul in saketown and waiting for the bar girls to get off work. It was a great City. Every one was so nice. Thanks for posting this.

Jeff Cameron - random question. We are looking for a bar that we believe was called “Seven Seven” around 1971ish in Paradise Alley. Does this bar name ring a bell to you?

生まれてから1983年まで住んでました。米軍相手のバー街が懐かしく、帰省する度風景が変わりなんか物足りなさを感じさせるのは、このバー街がなくなっていったからだと、こちらの動画を見て思いました。

I was born in Sasebo in 1970, my dad was stationed there. I believe he was on the USS Epping Forrest? He still talks about an area in Sasebo called "Crazy Corners"! Sure did appreciate the video. I'm sure my parents will enjoy it as well. Thanks again.

Nicely done. From 1967 to 1969, I was assigned to USS Albatross MSC 289 -- one of nine coastal minesweepers that were homeported at Sasebo. I've managed to stay in touch with a number of my former shipmates -- one of whom sent me the link to these photos on RU-vid that I will forward to others.

Grew up a Navy brat in the 60's. We lived in Sasebo from 1968 til 1974. My youngest brother was born there in 1970. Went to EJ king, played on the Dental team, the "Cardinals" as a kid. Bowled at the bowling alley, swam at the base pool, lived in the old Quanset huts , rode my bike all over the base and Sasebo. I remember the Pueblo, had some class mates whose dads were on her. I remember the Connie, Kitty, Poor Richard, and one time seeing the flashes of I think it was the Mo letting loose her guns, and when the Enterprise came to visit. I have seen updated pictures of the base, and it really is night and day from what I recall. My father was a Dental Medical equipt. repairman, LOL, he got busted for his drinking, (classic story), and his chief had him run the old "Showboat" and he served as scout master for us in 1970-73... Scout troop 363, I always look at Sasebo as where I grew up and called home. I also remember watching the Ajax and knowing some of the crew. And going to the Marine barracks and playing ball with the young Marine fellows.. LOL, I and friends spent endless hours rooting thru the trash cans near the seabees, amazing finds, and going behind the exchange and digging out unsold old playboys and such from their garbage. I and a friend got in trouble once, we accidently set a fire that caused a lot of smoke in one of the old bomb shelters.... it was an amazing place to grow up....

Ramona Martinez that's really awesome I was born there in 2000 when my dad met my Japanese mom while he was working on the Essex, and I got to experience so much of Sasebo growing up there and I would've loved to have been around back I. Those day and see how everything was like or if anything was different. Now I'm in America and I miss my home country so much and I miss my family there, but damn does Sasebo feel like a really special place, that's all have a good day sir and thank you for your service

My ship docked in Sasebo for 5 days of mixed R&R and re-gunning(6 in.turrent & 5 in.mount). I remember all those 'Stand Bars' and clubs. This place was nothing like Subic Bay P.I., really conservative and low key. But, was weird...all those older Japanese men and their Bonzai Clubs. A form of the V.F.W. here in the States.

Yes, Crazy Corners was the best and safest place to drink without the buy me drinky chicks. Cisco's on the very corner and an open toilet at the end of the hallway. Bars "Tommy's" "Midnight" and "Joker" were all good watering holes. Tommy's moma san was the best friend for a drunk sailor to get back to the ship safely.
