Because they had no defense. Those doorbell cameras with her walking the halls casually wielding a gun; her gaffes in calling the police pretending to be the wife; and, most of all, her lousy "non-testimony" testimony did her in. They knew they had no defense so they gave up.
As awful as any murder is, I had to laugh when it was revealed that she made those 'mistakes' during the 911 call. So glad murderers slip up and make it easy to get caught.
Yes just sad,it really is demons walking among us,and she was one not did she just kill him she killed her ex boyfriend as well and said someone did it she needed to be taken off the streets, she is a menace to society
I don’t believe for a second she did not know he was standing at the door! Absolutely Ridiculous! My sympathy to Martell’s family. May he rest in peace. Excellent video , Kevin , as always. Happy Holidays to Everyone.
I don't even think she's a narcissist (we should be careful about throwing that word around without a proper analysis and diagnosis). I think she was just a very pretty girl who was used to getting her way and not being able to take rejection.
@@user-xg9jb3nz9vI agree with you. She thought she was smarter than the jury so that's narcissistic behaviour but it doesn't necessarily mean she is a narcissist. That label is thrown around too freely these days. Some narcissists DON'T kill and not all killers are narcissists.
@@kennykaniff that or she thought the jury would feel sorry for her because of her tears. She was a very pretty girl so she's probably experienced pretty Privelage all her life she's also a lighter skin black woman so that also plays a factor sometimes. I'm also a black American woman by the way so I know these things happen
Does anyone ever explain why a gun going off in the hallway didn't inspire anyone to call the cops? The downstairs neighbor could hear and record the fight, the lady across the hall heard the knocking, no one heard a gunshot?
it is actually something humans do all the time. they always think "someone else will definitely call so no need for me to call." in NYC decade's ago 100s of people witnessed a brutal SA and homicide just outside their apt. building in the street below. No one called in.
My nosey self would've called 911 as soon as I heard that gun shot! These people lived in a luxury apartment building. I'm going to assume they weren't used to hearing gun shots 😳
She knew what she was doing. Giving his ex wife's name, saying she lived at the apartment but didn't have a key! Guilty, had a temper and couldnt control herself. Also, why wipe your eyes when there is not one tear? She didn't do a very good job of the fake bruise, must have been watching the Heard case! Edit:- love your little dog 😊
So she's outside his apartment which is deadbolted to keep her out because he's obviously scared of her & she shoots him. Pretty obvious who's the victim here
She made a straight shot through the door. If it went off accidentally, it would've shot somewhere else. The prior incident with buying some pot was sketchy on her part too. She got away with something, and was now trigger happy. Needs to stay in prison, no parole. Dangerous.
Yes she aimed that gun at the door if it was an accident the direction of the hole would have been slanted...she knew what she was doing and then lied on the wife plus why did you come back if you were so scared smh she came back with intent...sis needs also like you said she felt she got away with one incident so she feels she can do it again 😞 no accountability
Yeah she definitely needs to be locked up. She didn't learn her lesson the first time and thought she would get away from it AGAIN. Noticed how casually she walked down the hall after shooting this guy and killing him. I'm sure she's heard him die. She should have gotten NO parole. Well one things for sure she will be treated like crap 💩 in prison...
Wow. What a liar. Was apparently scared for her life. But returned to the apartment for no good reason, with a gun. If you are scared for your life and you escape - you don’t go back to collect a pair of flip flops. Come off it. Knocks on his door. Where he will clearly look through the peephole. Raises the gun (says she doesn’t know why) shoots him through the door. Meaning she has no reason to fear him. There is a locked door between them. She can leave AGAIN if she wants to. Says she didn’t intend to shoot the gun. She did shoot it though. Had enough wits about her to pretend to be somebody else when she called 911. Vile.
Her purse with her money and debit cards was also inside of the apartment. She lived in another city. He brought her there. How was she supposed to go anywhere without her shoes and purse?
I think it went the other way around, he was on the phone with someone and she got jealous. Went ballistic and attacked him. Pulled out a 🔫 and he managed to get the psycho out of his apartment. She shot him through the door intentionally when he wouldn't let her back in. And your furbaby is so stinking cute and cuddly! 🥰😍
Yeah I wish they'd include details like that. Check his phone records, and verify if she was actually talking to someone about a job offer. The forensic info would've been helpful too. They should be able to tell how far the gun was away from the door and at what angle. It accidentally going off as she raised up and her pressing it up against the door would've produced 2 completely different holes.
My theory is , They had a fight she grab the gun . like you said, he managed to get her out . Then she went pasting around the building , using neighbors' chargers . While this is going on, he knows she got the gun and knows she's crazy , so at this point, he's bolting up his doors . She's on her way back to the apartment on her phone, blowing him up and at the door now banging . He's telling her to go away and to leave him alone . Her being a jealous narrsasist, she shoots him point blank, then calls her ride !
Sasha is a spoiled, entitled and angry young woman who deserves all of the prison time allowed for her senseless crime! Condolences to Martell's family and friends 💔
It's amazing we even need to go through trials like this case that was blatantly obvious she did the crime and meant to. I feel like she declined the prosecutors deal just to drag that poor family through the process of a trial. She's a true narcissist by the definition.
@@somita9849 because she knew she was doomed. Listen to her voice during her testimony. There is no power, no authenticity. Even she does not believe what she is saying. She's just going through the motions. For her, it beats sitting in a cell by herself...she knows that's what she's going to get plenty of time to do for the rest of her life. She was a beautiful young woman. Bad choice and bad choice after bad choice.
I have watched videos on over 120 true crime channels and most of them aren't any good. I have accumulated a list of about 20 of the best true crime channels out there and JTL is definitely one of them. I remember joining this channel as sub #211. I sub to about 2 or 3 channels right now where they have less than 100 subs but they are an excellent channel so they will grow and succeed just like JTL has. It's really cool to watch these channels grow. If you would like to hear of some of the channels I've accumulated I am willing to share them with you. It will save you some time instead of checking out worthless channels.
Kevin, your delivery of each and every video you post have undoubtedly THE BEST narration of any True Crime RU-vid channel. You’re so concise, you deliver ALL facts, and you exhibit pure journalistic integrity, by not inserting your opinions on the case. I’m a HUGE fan from Canada. Keep up the great work!
No I'm pretty sure she arranged for her BF to rob the dealer and he had protection so the dealer and BF both shot each other. The video states that they found on her phone that she was the one discussing details and set it up if I'm not mistaken. No hit involved.
The way she nonchalantly gestures as of the gun just went off pissed me off so much. Like, yeah oopsie daisies the guy on the other side of the door is now dead but it was an accident and she's childlike all of a sudden and a victim even though she murdered him...such bullshit.
She was a hot headed quick to anger train wreck that cost 2 men their lives and 1 man to be injured in a failed robbery plot. If she had no idea he was standing there and just wanted to gain entry to wouldn't have shot by the peep hole, she would have fired at the dead bolt or door knob.
@@ellentronicmistress4969You honestly think any of those people care about the victim's family? The court system is all about money, that is why it functions the way it does.
As others have stated, they offer pleas to reduce work and money. However, the plea they offer is congruent with the evidence. In other words, if they have an iron clad case they will offer a plea that really isn't much of a bargain. But if their evidence is weak the plea offer will be much more lenient. So most times if they have strong evidence the plea really isn't much of a deal anyway. They're basically just willing to shave off a couple years to not waste time going through the inevitable
I remember catching a glimpse at her trial. Her mom took the stand and went awf (Not off but awf). Mom said she’s been troubled since childhood. She said some hurtful sh*t to her daughter. But if I remember correctly she felt like her daughter needed to hear the truth. And how she has caused problems in the family. She also said she needs prison and maybe she’ll find out what plan God has in store for her.😊
If mom spoke it, I’m certain it’s truthful! Everything she described is EXACTLY the manner in which she comes across as being. 2 men w/ties to her end up dead. That’s no coincidence.
I remember something like that but I thought it was for another case where the chick shot her up & coming rapper bf and he had unintentionally recorded it. Either way I enjoy accountability & ppl just co-signing on the worst behavior because of kinship/marriage. Idk if I would just go in like that publicly but it is what it is. Traditionally us blk ppl in our families we have held onto generations of trauma & lack the tools to overcome them & the cycle continues. This is an example of it personified.
😂 idk how or why they gain weight in there, but my cousin is in jail rn & stresses to me every day that she gained weight she went in at 162 LAST YEAR & is now 284. They must not have many healthy options in there 😢
She was mad he was going back to his wife. She's been the side piece and he would lie and say he was separated or broke up or something, and he was once again going back to his wife.
I truly believe that was how the flight started. Nothing with her modeling agent. How could he be mad if she really was on the phone business wise that was BS. She made that up. I think he told he going back to his or planing somthing like that and she got pissed...
Y'all on here playing the worse 'Broken Telephone'....the full trial is available on YT and the fight started over a male calling her and him overhearing that it wasn't a professional call. He got upset with her about men calling her, when she's in his home, something that had previously been an issue, so she was asked to leave. He was seperated from Joia, but they were still good friends and maintained a platonic relationship and had separate addresses. Don't drag the deceased name through the mud with your speculations. RIP Kardone!
On a side note, every time I watch true crime, I’m amazed at how the defendant triples in size from before the court proceedings to when the trial begins. What are they being fed?!?!
JTL always seems to come up with the most fascinating cases. I found myself genuinely pondering this one as an accidental homicide but her calm voice on the 911 call did it for me. Really eerie. And please more dog cameos!! So adorable 🖤
No matter if the story is told before I can't wait to hear Kevin break it down I've rewatch every episode at least three times already n still get something new every time pure greatness 😊💯💯🙏🏿
You'd think the defense attorneys (or Sasha herself) would've claimed Sasha was using the gun to knock on the door, because at least that would've explained why she had the gun up the way she did when it supposedly "went off" and killed Martell. It must've been a gut punch to get a 55 year sentence, when the week before, she turned down a plea deal where she'd have been out in 20 years. No one can say she doesn't deserve it, though.
It goes to show how useless these state defence attorneys are. why she didn't say she was knocking on the door with the gun is beyond me, how stupid can you be. but the defence attorney not coming up with that is a travesty, thankfully they were both to brain dead for that as she more than likely intended to shoot him through the door as she was angry. Her say the gun went off accidentally while banging on the door could've provided reasonable doubt I was thinking that straight away youd think most people would come up with that on the spot nevermind after sitting in prison for months constructing my defence I get the defence attorneys have loads of cases at once but this is such an obvious line of defence now she has 55 years to think about her choices in life.
I ask for your support. I have started a new channel specializing in crime stories. I want you to express your opinion about my first video, if there is no objection, of course. Thank you 🥰🥰🥰
@dyls2702 hell, she could've even said she was banging on the door and he yelled that he had a gun and was gonna shoot her. That and the knocking on the door with the gun were two defenses ai thought of that were better than what those "public pretenders " came up with..
What do these women eat in jail? Grilled cheese sandwiches, mac and cheese, and fruit cobbler? Food can't be that bad. I've seen too many women pack on 100+ lbs when locked up in jail before their trial.
Ok what was this chick eating in jail for those 2 years?! On the ring cam she look like 21 (130lbs). Showed up to trial looking like she was 34 (200lbs) easy 😂 😂 💀
@@sunnyboknow 98% of the time an attorney will advise you NOT to take the stand so this was absolutely her choice. This was not even one of those cases where she could change the spin that the prosecution has spun. She literally couldn't even answer the question about "what was the purpose you raised the gun?" She looked really bad up there. She looked a bit dumb to me. Didn't seem very bright at all. Just my opinion tho.
She had enough time between the shooting and the trial - to go from a size 10 to a size 18 (Oh that wonderful prison food) - but she didn't have time to come up with a ready answer to what she intended when the gun just went off because her finger moved the trigger? If she was afraid of him she could have called the police and got them to help her retrieve her stuff, and filed a complaint against him...but instead rings them to claim she is Joya, perhaps trying to set Joya up as the killer? I can see why the jury didn't buy her story! Great video as always Kevin, including the sweet introduction of Jamie ❤❤❤
I would say she gained more weight than what you're suggesting. She was very skinny prior to jail. I'd say about a size 4 and that's only because even with her small frame she was quite curvy. If not for the curves I would have said a size 2; and I'd also say that by the time the trial came around she was about a size 18-20 also possibly also because of the curviness of her body. So yeah she did some eating while awaiting trial.
@@beautifulsurprise9424 LOL I was thinking 'damnnn, girl blew up' I mean she doesn't even look the same. I was just gonna keep that to myself. definitely from a 2-4 to a 18-20. she's SO fortunate that the propane explosion scars healed. she seemed to clearly use her looks for money (modeling) and most likely to attract Martell. based on her testimony she didn't seem like a great conversationalist. I also noticed that his wife, Joia, looked fabulous during her testimony. sad to lose an intelligent, talented young man. I like to think he didn't give her the black eye or got jealous. but oh well, RIP.
@@ItsNeverAManequin yeah they showed Sasha in the thumbnail and they also showed his wife Joi and also the video of Sasha from the hallway so I was like who’s the bigger woman in the thumbnail not knowing that both were Sasha. Not trying to shame her because of her size but she looks different and there’s nothing wrong with bringing it up because it is noticeable.
@@beautifulsurprise9424 I thought it was quite an incredible transformation and only goes to show body size/image is not set in concrete... but it is also irrelevant to the case 🙂
Hey Kevin, another well presented case. You can always be counted on to deliver the cases without all the drama and opinions. I appreciate that. It's the difference between watching the nightly news and Entertainment Tonight. Both deliver the news but one gives it straight and the other flashes everything up, coloring our view. I've been a fan since the beginning and look forward to your videos. Luv from Canada eh👋
She's really doing well in jail where she belongs... Very very sad... Its important from these cases for all of us to learn self control.... He really didn't deserve to die.... He didn't see it coming........
Thank you again for a very well laid out case. I so enjoy watching your videos. Your voice is so calm to listen to, you don't play obnoxious music, just provide a great detail of evidence. I hope you're able to continue doing videos for many years to come. And love your pets, too!
It's the Defendants decision whether or not to testify. I'm sure she was advised against it by her Lawyer, but tge final decision is always the Defendants.
Thankfully she did, now we'll always have that blue screen of death moment when she had no answer for why she raised the gun xD. I could almost picture the little wheel spinning in her brain "processing, please wait" and then BSoD. She had to know her life was over in that moment.
love your presentations!! So informative without the totally unnecessary over dramatic music that you get in other ‘true crime’ presentations. Well done.
I had been waiting for coverage on this senseless murder. She absolutely meant to shoot him and was in on another murder. Karma came calling, and it will continue to. Such a wasted life, and tragically she snuffed out another young life. He hadn't even gotten to live really. ps. cute pupper xo
Thank you for showing me an adorable dog Kevin. I love the look at the end and the way you reacted. Thank you for doing such a great job at this. Keep on shining
Sometimes it truly makes more sense to just fess up and take responsibility for your actions. By Sasha telling these BLATANT ball faced lies, it is insulting to the average person’s intelligence. Therefore, she should face the maximum punishment! LWOP!
Whew!!! Jail is hard on folks; I didn't recognize her when she walked into the courtroom in her jail garb...Wow, this didn't need to happen AT ALL! He made it thru the military & serving to be killed by a crazy woman 😵💫
It’s not uncommon that ppl under a lot of chronic stress often gain a lot of weight. In prison they will gain more weight, become much more wrinkled, they lose their hair, any hair left will be completely grayed, and often they die early of cancer or heart disease.
Kevin, you do a stellar job of presenting these (often gut wrenching) stories with entertaining ambiance, thoughtful intelligence and perfect voice....adorable pupper, too!
I wonder why the prosecution didn't try for 1st degree premeditation as she lied about her identity, had a story concocted as to what happened among other things. Also, she had ample time to turn around before she got back to that apartment door. The door video shows definitively that shes NOT in fear for her life, shes not frantic. No, shes calmly walking WITH INTENT to that apartment to do harm to Martell DeRouen. That in itself shows premeditation, not some spur of the moment action that 2nd degree requires...
@@tencentpistol1 Maybe cuz she was only sentenced to 55 years and not life. I can't recall another case offhand where the jury determined the sentence, rather than the judge, unless it came down to if the defendant should get the DP or not.
Happy Sunday, Kevin, and thanks for the upload, which I'm still currently watching. Just wanted to chime in about that 911 call so far... apparently this Sasha not only had called them from her own cell phone but also tried to give them Joia's name, which she didn't even know how to spell... really, are you kidding me?!? And stating that they had lived together but she didn't have a key; not that she had misplaced or lost her key. And of course the Ring footage and the neighbor, Caroline, actually seeing her. Good Lord! Anyhow, obviously rest in peace to poor Martell and hope justice will be served. Also it's looking like Santa is going to be showing up early to drop you and Cathy off 200,000 subs at the rate this channel has been growing from week to week. It seems to be averaging about 4k sub growth each week from what I could tell. What a lovely -- and certainly well deserved -- Christmas gift!!! Ho, ho, ho; now let me finish the video!
I guess cognitive thinking is out of the window. This was premediated... She knew he was at that peep hole and shot through the door. If you shoot a gun at someone, know that if the person is hit, they may die. I don't believe he gave her a black eye either. Everything that looks good, not always good for you. # RIP Kardone
Yeah, but it's looking like she can apply for parole after only 25 years, so if she does in fact get out at that time, that's really not fair at all for having taken this young man's life.
It's baffling how she didn't know how to answer key questions. Surely, her team would have prepared her for questioning. Evidently, they didn't do a very good job. It's a good thing they didn't because she had no good answers. She didn't even try to make up a reason. Wow.
What a huge loss! My gut says he told her that night that their relationship was over. Would have loved to have read the texts they sent to each other in those final days.
Yeah I don't believe her explanation for the fight at all. He locked *her* out to protect himself. He has zero history of DV, zero criminal history, and she's already helped kill another guy.
@@17thknight Right? They should've pulled his phone records, he was probably on the phone with another woman while she was trashing the place. They could also easily verify if she was on a zoom call with someone about a job offer. Because when the heck did she get the gun with him supposedly chasing her around?
