The murder of Brenda Thurman [True Crime Documentary]

43 year old former US Army sniper, counsellor, wife and mother, Brenda Thurman was rushed to the hospital on a cold January morning in 2016; ostensibly the victim of a tragic accident.
The evidence - for the most part, appeared to align with this conclusion. It was a devastating end for a trailblazing, loving and strong woman.
But questions arose, only a week later, when a colleague of Brendas’ was also, inexplicably, killed in what police believe was yet another tragic accident.
Were the two deaths completely unrelated? Unfortunate but utterly unconnected events? Or was it possible, that this was more than a coincidence?

These cases where guns accidentally go off are always such crap. They were both former military, she was a sniper for god sakes, this wouldn’t happen. I am an army veteran and spent 13 months in Iraq, making sure my weapon is clear is like breathing for me. You just don’t make these mistakes and for it to conveniently shoot her at the same time… come on now. Just divorce her bro. You’re giving a horrible name to the military when you kill your wife… he worked for the VA and will always represent the military as a former service member. Idk why people think this is ever an option. Sad story.

I have an MA in Psychology and worked 30 years as a counselor. From my perspective, there Is NO Way that a person can Fake the type of deep grief that this man showed, starting right after his wife was shot. This includes his involuntary vomiting at the hospital. The simple reason why he didn't perform CPR nor call 911 is that he was in the sincere state of shock that comes after a legitimate accident. Psychiatrist Karl Jung discussed a concept he called "synchronicity". This is when a person Mistakenly treats a mere coincidence as being MUCH More Significant than a mere coincidence. This logical error (which is so easy to make) explains why people associate the coincidental death of the both the wife and her lover also as evidence of a sinister causal link between them although any evidence of that is so far lacking. If I had been on this man's jury, I would've stuck with a verdict of NOT Guilty On ALL Charges, even if it resulted in a hung jury. It wasn't the facts of the case that convicted this man but the Sob Story Soap Opera that came with those facts, especially designed for SUCKERS like You.

That part, in my opinion if your trained on guns, let alone in the military you know to take safety and precaution measures. It's hard to prove if people act fast like the husband did. I will never, never understand for the life of me why people just don't divorce. I get she will get half or more but guess what you won't spend the rest of your life in jail.

So, he was ex-military AND a reserve sheriff's deputy in Lincoln County which borders Spokane County. The suspect was a fellow Sheriff, and I think that just would make any police officer trust what the husband was saying. Why oh WHY wouldn't they at least take the couples' phones and go through them? The daughter of the dead wife was immediately suspicious and saying that at the scene. This was botched, by the Sheriff, the Prosecutor....it's sad. So sad that two wonderful people were lost and this guy got away with it.

Just wanted to state: as a firearm expert, glock pistols are absolutely one of the most reliable handguns of all time. All guns have the possibility for a malfunction, but glock’s entire success as a firearm manufacturer is built upon its reputation for reliability. They’re made to go off in sand, mud, broken, underwater, in the snow, whatever you can dream. Also, glocks have an array of internal safeties to stop the gun from firing from any other motion or action other than pulling that damn trigger. I’ve carried one appendix for over half my life now and I’m comfortable with it brushing against things or me doing some type of strenuous activity or whatever…. I trust the engineering that the gun will not go off unless I draw it and pull the trigger. So his claims of the gun stovepiping and or, accidentally going off while breaking it down… highly highly unlikely. Like maybe 1 out of a mil

I don't own one or fired one so I'm going to refer to your expertise. I 100% believe the husband intentionally killed Brenda (not being extra careful with a gun he stated wasn't working/not rendering CPR aid/having an affair, etc), I do wonder if perhaps bc the gun was a speciality gun that might be the reason it malfunctioned? From the pictures it was a Tiffany&Co gun so that would make it a speciality gun, no? Are those perhaps less reliable than the standard black and gray glocks? Also, please excuse my ignorance in advance. I truly know nothing about guns & find them terrifying.

I was one of the only females to go to Airborne school back when I was in the Army. I know what harassment I went through in pursuing a career usually deemed for males. For them to even had considered he shot her by accident is beyond the pale. A 'stovepipe' malfunction is when the firearm fires the round in the chamber, and extracts said case from the chamber, but it fails to fully eject and is captured in the ejection port, holding the slide in a partially open (with case caught between the breach and barrel, sticking out of the firearm). Looks like a stovepipe (chimney) stick up and out of the firearm.

Been shooting for 45+ years and have NEVER seen anyone NOT clear such a thing.... Sometimes stuck projectiles from a squib [would wait] but never a stovepipe.... Drop magazine, point downrange, and work action a few times... I doubt many of these newer highly monitored ranges would even ALLOW you to take the gun back in such condition? If you can't clear it, they will stop and clear it for you. See it ALL THE TIME with people jamming up their AR's....

I was never in the army, but my husband was. Years and years of shooting and cleaning, come on, you don't make some civilian mistake! So, I thought about his remark about the "stove piping", wouldn't that fact make him be even more careful? Also, when you clean your gun, how often to you hold it straight in front of you, as if shooting? This does not add up. The surgeon's death is even more suspicious if that's possible. A slip and fall from a bridge, that has high rails on it, the iPod still working after being sucked down in a whirlpool for 24 hours. He was clean, probably because he didn't want to leave evidence? He can't be charged for murder in her death. But the good Drs death has been found to be a homicide. He could be charged in that if there is evidence found. So, where shall we look for evidence?? Yeah, all their devices, everyone involved! Too much doesn't add up, all I see is proof of a very poor investigation. Not to forget he is a police officer, just a reserve officer.
@earthstepper
@earthstepper 9 месяцев назад
Yeah, you're totally right. Ex-military guy here, not a big gun guy, but own plenty, shoot and hunt throughout the year, the #1 safety rule is 'barrel orientation', never, ever, let the barrel of any firearm you are cleaning, using, handling, etc, cross thr path of another human being, it's thst easy, whether you have an accidental discharge, misfire, etc, you never have to worry about harming somebody, as you always have the barrel of the weapon pointed clearly away from another person. These accidental shooting cases always seem suspect to me as well. It's so easy to be safe with weapons.

Also, if gossip was swirling around both VA hospitals about Brenda and the surgeon, it wouldn't be a stretch to think that Dwayne was also involved in the surgeon's death. I’m really finding it hard to believe that a Marine who is a gun enthusiast would make the careless mistake of accidentally shooting someone under any circumstance. Secondly the police department and the prosecutors seriously dropped the ball on completing a thorough investigation in both cases which clearly showed signs of foul play. Lastly it amazes me how people can all listen and see the same evidence but walk away with a completely different conclusion when determining guilt in a trial. Especially considering all of the facts being presented to them.

Dwayne is guilty of a double homicide but his status as a reserve sheriff's deputy in a neighboring county was his get-out-of-jail-free card. I also do not think that he committed these murders alone. I believe that another member of Lincoln County law enforcement helped him, possibly two. Dwayne is also guilty of one of the worst performances of a murderer pretending to be innocent on the witness stand that I have ever seen.

If the gun is jammed and I'm at the range and I can not figure it out I'm, sure it goes for everyone. You ask the range safety officers for help. That's what they are there for. I'll never go home with a jammed gun. So, that's automatically not a good excuse to go home and figure it out later.

11 minutes in and I’m absolutely disgusted. The husband knows better than anybody how to handle a firearm safely and even I know that you would not break it down with somebody sitting directly in front of you. I don’t even own a gun and I know that her daughter is an absolute rockstar for asking for this POS to be arrested! I’m the fact that the death was initially ruled an accident, because the police were there is absolutely frightening when you think of how many autopsies are being corrupted by police interference. If anything, it should’ve been suspicious until further investigation was completed deplorable work all the way around and her daughter is an absolute gem.

Besides the obvious knowledge this military man did not use surrounding a gun, he chose not to provide CPR and delayed calling his stepdaughter to the scene and further delayed calling 911. A total slap in the face to a catatonic prosecutor.

Thanks Kevin, for sharing this case with us. Gun safety is instilled in vets and it would be second nature so his story doesn't really hold up. It appears that these cases may be directly connected. Couples that state they have open marriages make the mistake that sometimes one partner may be involved to the extent that the other partner doesn't like. They can become quite dangerous as jealousy rears its ugly head. Interesting case.

I call BS. When he wanted a open marriage, it meant he wanted to cheat on her. He was jealous of her having a relationship with with someone else. She was probably having more fun. So it backfired on him. Emotional, sexual game playing is totally separate from any title anyone can hold. RE: him being a Marine. Any act taken against the marriage vows, spells danger. Especially when money is involved. RUN !!
