Abandoned & Forgotten Places
Documenting abandoned mines like never before!
Let's take abandoned mine exploring to the next level!
With your support you can help make this the best abandoned mine exploring channel on RU-vid!
Shot entirely in 4K! ...so, turn up those video settings!
On this channel we go deep... REALLY DEEP into abandoned mines and tunnels all throughout the western United States. We researched some of the harder to find mines and hiked or 4x4 back into them to explore and reveal their hidden secrets. Many of these remote locations are filled with cool artifacts, antiques and unique geology that will have you guessing as to why the old prospectors worked so hard to find gold, silver, and other minerals.
A&FP moves just a bit slower as compared to other mine exploring channels. Gly discusses why the miners chose these sites and he points out the geology and minerals that got them excited. Veins of quartz filled with gold and silver made many men lose sleep in the 1800’s and early 1900’s and modern prospecting still does to this very day.
DANGERS? Oh yes, there’s allot of dangers associated with old mines. Un-exploded dynamite, blasting caps, bad air, bats, spiders, and snakes all find their home in abandoned mine shafts and tunnels. Oh, and let’s not forget rotting timbers, flooded passages and collapsing rock!
Gly takes abandoned mine exploring seriously with all the proper safety equipment, training, and experience necessary to do this activity as safe as possible but that doesn’t mean we can’t have a bit of fun along the way. “Gly”, your host and his band of crazy characters “Old Bob” (Gly’s Jeep), “Quackers” (Gly’s duck) and “Bobbie” (Gly’s hula girl) are sure to brighten your day with their comments and silly antics. Heck, they may even give you a chuckle or two.
Just like Saturday morning cartoons before the internet was invented, Abandoned and Forgotten Places uploads each Saturday at 7:00AM PST. (that’s 10:00AM for you eastern folks) so don’t forget to click that subscribe button and bell icon to receive notifications of new episodes!
Please LIKE, SHARE, SUBSCRIBE and COMMENT! All these things help grow our channel and your financial support helps us find new locations and helps put fuel into “Old Bobs” tank. Old Bob, thanks you!
Ok, now for the ugly stuff...

“Gly”: *PLEASE READ* Thank you for all of your comments, you guys are awesome!! I just wanted to clarify that at first I thought I triggered a collapse and that is why I ran for the exit. It wasn’t until I got back on my feet when I heard for a second time even more stomping sounds and rocks falling further up in the mine. Tomorrow (Monday April 27) I will be going back to this same mine to try and figure out what animal made the sounds. If all goes well and I’m not eaten alive (I’m joking) I will post what I find in Episode 51 on Saturday May 2nd. I have no intentions of hurting the animal or myself for that matter but I’ll do my best to solve this mystery. Wish me luck!!

Plot twist: The mining crew only probed that area and found no veins so they moved to a new spot on the mountain, Mike was pretty new so he didnt get the memo and kept working away mining tunnels thinking he had his own tunnels to dig. This entire mine was made solely by Mike The Miner not to mention countless animals he had to fight for food and skin for clothes or repair tool handles. He sued for not only ULTRAtime he got compensation for loss of his speech due to becoming one with the animals of this now cavern, becoming feral and aggressive towards humans THUS what was heard in the video. Two of us were exploring a good sized mine in a very remote area which we had to hike at night into to avoid the daytimes heat. That long hike at night up the side of a desert mountain made it clear there was no other humans anywhere near. After getting into the mine a few hundred feet I had been telling my friend how the mind does not like no information coming in and what it does when confronted with such. To prove my point we had a sit and killed all the lights and were sitting in the silent dark for long enough that we each thought the other had fallen asleep... Started hearing intermittent sounds and thought it was just the mind playing tricks until suddenly a good sized rock shifted just a few feet from where we were... We both hit our lights at the same time and I don't know who was more shocked us or the ring tailed cat staring back at us! It turned and flew back out so fast id swear its tail left a light trail behind it.... It sure sounded way bigger then it turned out to be before we saw what it was that had got so close to us.

They kept seeing him at a distance in death valley. He would always disappear before they got to where they last saw him. Many items were stolen from visitors and hikers in death valley, from water jugs, food, and even a 4-wheel buggy. Long story short, when the law finally caught him they learned he was a felon running away from the Canadian Mounties. A warning to those who travel alone...it ain't safe.

@@johig4378 Oh man, that makes it even more freakier. Like that old urban legend about the hermit that lived in some protected national park /forest. Some photographer had set out on a multi day hike and camp in the national park to photograph the elusive hermit and didn't see anything at all for the entire five day's expedition until the morning of his return; looked like someone had looted his camp and stole food and water, the night prior. But the real scare was when the photographer went back home and stuck his camera's SD card into his laptop, and to his surprise, and horror, saw the last few pictures were of the photographer's sleeping face...! 😳

I was inspecting the entrance to a small mine just south of Ward, Colorado a few months ago and felt something was behind me. I turned around to see a very full sized male mountain lion was stalking me and was about 40 feet away. I yelled at it without thinking and the only words that came to mind were "BAD KITTY!!!!" It stopped and crouched down on a rock about 8 feet above me, observing me as I slowly walked backwards away from it, still yelling "BAD KITTY!!!". LMAO. Never run from a lion as it triggers their I'm gonna catch you reflexes. SHOUT at it and try to appear as aggressive as possible. I now carry an air horn and pyro noisemakers with a torch lighter. Glad you're safe, and your videos are some of the best out there! Seriously pro! Keep it up!!!

“Gly”: Thanks! My first instinct is that it possibly triggered a collapse and I’m certain if I would have seen an actual animal I would have reacted differently. Animals generally don’t frighten me as I grew up in a place where grizzlies and cats are common. How you reacted to that big cat was appropriate and that’s exactly what someone should do with that type of an encounter.

I had something similar happen to me. Just As I started entering a small opening of a mine on my property (I had just bought the property and was exploring) there was a loud commotion. I nearly crapped my pants. I turned and got out quick. The noise continued and I picked up large rocks because that was all that was a available outside the opening. A turkey vulture flew out. It turned out it was tending to an egg near the entrance and was wildly flapping it's wings against the walls of the shaft while trying to fly out. I live in big cat country and have personally seen them locally. I'll take big bird over big cat anytime. It's funny now but during the seconds after the noise, I thought I was going to nature's victim.

Having left my guns with my brother at the pickup (that had broken down), I just raised my hands over my head and shouted. It looked up and was quite shocked seeing me and immediately galloped out of the ravine and up the mountain. I was told later there are no bears in that vicinity of Nevada. Well, there was at least one, about as big as me (6'). Thanks for sharing these explorations.

A couple of trail cameras with infrared to take pictures in the dark with no flash so they don't scare whatever animal it is would be nice to have. I would suggest setting one in the mine where you made first contact with the animal and another with cell service placed at the entrance of the mine that will notify you when a video or picture is taken and you can also call the trial camera and download the pictures from home. It would be really neat to see all the different animals that enter the mines.

I've come real close to cougars a couple times. The second, about 2000, I was finishing working in my shop at something like 2:00 AM and walked outside. Thought I was hearing a woman screaming and was coming from the neighbors house and walked down the road, but then it sounded like it was coming from the house on the other side of ours. Walked over there and it sounded like it was coming from behind our house. Walked out behind our house and barn. There was about 10 inches of snow on the ground and a layer of ice on that, so it crunched load as I walked. I was thinking now, an injured owl or something. About a couple city blocks and I saw it and thought it was a big dog, a great dane. It was about a hundred feet in front of me and walked back and forth in front of me as I kept walking towards it, staying the same distance away, but a slight hill went up on the other side of a 4 ft. fence and it went over it like it wasn't there and when it got up on the hill, I saw it's profile and a very long tail, maybe like four foot of tail. Didn't know cougars got that big. I stopped going and began to back up, not wanting to take my eyes off it. About a city block of that and instead of back and forth, it just kept going. The first time, around 1980, I brought my brother to a dryer up lake and we were walking around it. We thought we saw a fawn down in the lake bed go behind a bush. I thought it would be neet to grab it, pet it and let it be. Told my brother to say there and watch the spot incase I lost the bush going down there. I didn't and was just tencing (sp) my muscles to jump over the bush when the cougar came out and to my left. It walked about three foot from me past my left at a crouch, about knee high. It's tail was about three feet long and fluffed out about as big around as a softball. One more second and I would with little dought have scars to prove the incounter.

My best guess it was a bobcat or mountain lion and it kicked loose a bunch of rock going up an ore pass or shaft trying to escape. To bad the microphone didn’t pick up all of what I heard because the first thing that went through my mind was I triggered a collapse. After that instinct took over and the top part of my body tried to go faster than the lower part. Haha.

@@4x4andfishing .... Ya, I see exactly what you're saying. I actually see what looks like multiple bare footprints that are really deeply sunk in the ground. It also looks like that ground has been saturated at one time, maybe if it rains very heavily the water makes its way through air shafts and comes down the mountain inside the mine trails and that could explain those footprints. They definitely don't look like shoe prints, but rather bare footprints. Thanks for the catch, very interesting video.

Gly - I actually have accidently cornered Cougar in CA abandoned (I thought) goldmine 5-'72, seen a Sasquatch in Mich 4-'91, & Chupacabra in Louisiana 9-'15. 1st one scared as I was so I backed away, 2nd standing amid spruce tree on pipeline road so he backed into Jackpine, & 3rd ran like hell real close across I-10 so I'm real unlucky I guess. Your encounter was w/afellow-trezz-pazzer, so if you ever decide to go back, I believe you'll find 'em working the visible gold seams on walls.
