My thoughts Sata 1500RP, by Sata's standards this is relatively cheap but it's still pricey compared to some, anyhow, my thoughts are layed out in this video, hope you enjoy it 👍

I have a set of knock offs of this gun I got 12 years ago at my local hardware store of their store brand, I never knew they were knock offs until I used Google Lens and this is the only gun it completely matches. It was a $300 set I got on sale for $150 with two guns. MasterCraft brand in Canada

Hi buddy, there are a few guns styled like these. That's because they are classic Satajet guns. These are how they have been styled for years and years before the 5000 and X5500 came out. Sounds like you got a reasonable set of guns, though, if they are still going after 12 years 👍

Pete slow down or close the fan a quarter turn and that upol will glass out like a treat. The 1500 rp solv is just a slower gun built for trouble solvent base but it can put any clear down flat. I use it only for base coat now as I have faster guns for clear. The 1500rp sprays a lot like the tekna clear gun.

Hi Scott, I have experimented with a few different settings including putting the fan in slightly, I guess you are right, it's just slow which i didn't really expect, I compared the cap to the 5000 RP and they are the same size as i was thinking maybe it's a midi gun but it doesn't seem to be marketed as one. It does a really good job with the slightly better clears so i stopped experimenting and just use one of those but i will try some things that have been suggested by you and others, cheers mate 👍

Hi Pete, great video mate, I totally understand what you are saying with the uPol clear as you know I use my R160Q 1.2 to spray the clear and you really have to move quite slow to get a good finish despite having the flow control set to 3 turns out which is full fluid. I feel the clear goes on to thickly then and doesn’t give you the desired finish, but that’s just me being picky of my own work. Thanks Pete. Steve

Hi Steve, yes, that's one thing people ask about a mini gun, can it do a full panel. Of course you can do a full panel with most mini guns but it's slow, some much slower than others, it about getting enough material on which a mini will always struggle with, cheers mate 👍

Hey Pete, another really informative video mate really enjoy watching your uploads, the Sata did a great job on the basecoat it looked really nice and smooth. The Upol clear can be a bit temperamental as you know only to well and you need a gun that is able to lay a good wet coat and atomise the clear well, when I use the Upol I always aim to spray the finish you are looking for as there is next to no flow out but the MM2 is the total opposite, maybe try some thinners in the Upol with the Sata 1500 mate that will help with the flow out, do you think a 1.4 would help in the Sata? I tried the 1.3 in my DV1 base gun this morning and it seemed a bit better so I will have to see how it goes, the colour was a Champagne Silver so not the easiest colour to spray but it came out looking really nice🙏👍 cheers mate👌

Hi John, thanks mate, I just natter away really 😀, yes, it's funny, I do put some thinners in the clear when it's cold but can't remember if i did this time, this was 11c according to my notes, it was in April which was quite chilly so i may have done, normally i don't but when it's cold it helps it flow a little. Someone mentioned the hardener and to try normal, I've used the gun a reasonable amount but just use 6030 or MM2 and no problems, same with the HVLP version. Good you like the 1.3 tip, should make it a little wetter, look forward to seeing the video on Instagram 👍

The Upol can be a bit finicky but you don't need any help from me regarding the use of it as you have used it more than I have and been using it longer than me so you are the 2080 guru 🤓🙏😆 Yeah the 1.3 seems to be better than the 1.2 so time will tell, I have been looking on ebay for a 1.3 (base or clear) but couldn't find any used ones, there are some new but they are £70-90 mostly from USA but I can get a new one cheaper from my usual place, do you think a 1.4 would be to big Pete? I'm thinking it might cause problems with some colours if it's laid to heavy🤷‍♂👍
@peteshobbies5383
@peteshobbies5383 2 года назад
@@JohnWD40TC02 yes, it could be too big, depending on colour and conditions but you can back it off if needed, you can also use the 1.4 in the clear guns, i have a full set which i got new from a paint rep, having said that i use 1.2, 1.3 for base and the 1.4 for clear as well as the other two, from memory i have a 1.1 and a 1.5 and 1.6 as well, never used them but should try them, if it not too expensive I would certainly try it, as i say, it fits both so not money wasted

Yeah thanks Pete I'll get something sorted out but I need to get some new wheels for my SLK as my back ones are to far gone to be restored and they are loosing enough air to run a DV1😂, I've found a set of 4 with new tyres on ebay at a good price but still could have bought a WS400 with the money😭🤦‍♂

Very enjoyable to watch your video I think I might get one of those SATA 1500 I have the older one still works perfect along with an Optima Devilbiss Binks7 and how about a couple different Harbor Freights that also work great haha

I'm not a big fan of the Upol clear. It looks ok at first, but dies back rather fast . After a year or two in the sun it had me looking for a better brand. Try Tamco or Grant 7 clear. Dupont Nason or even Speedkote seems better than Upol.

Hi Mitchell, I've used the Upol for years, and generally, I find it's fine, not the best, of course, but you get what you pay for, I guess. I really used to like the Max Meyer 0300, retained gloss really well, and wasn't particularly expensive. They replaced it with 0320, which isn't as good imo. Cheers, buddy 👍

Hello I was wondering how you are keeping the overspray off all your tools what kind of ventilation do have ?
@peteshobbies5383
@peteshobbies5383 2 года назад
Hi Mike, I don't have any ventilators filtering the air in only the air out, this is just a 700mm square box made of wood with a 600mm extraction fan inside, this vents outside through 100mm filter media that I buy in rolls, i still get overspray on bits that aren't covered but that's not a big problem, it just wipes off if needed, most of the stuff is just supplies so it goes in the bin when finished anyway. I have a few dust sheets over what i want to keep clean, i clean these every few weeks, not ideal but it's what i have, cheers 👍

Try to low the pressure or use a normale hardener when spraying Upol(It has less solid content then the mm2). This happens to me now in summer with my f160 1.2 at 2 bar, i try the 1.3 full fluid from 1.4 to 1.8 bar and problem solved...
@peteshobbies5383
@peteshobbies5383 2 года назад
Hi Cristian, I have tried different pressures too high is a little dry not enough is even more peel, I haven't tried standard hardener though, i have fast and extra fast, it was only 11c so the fast isn't particularly fast but it is much faster than the MM2 fast so it's worth a try, standard would be handy in the weather we had this year so I'll get some, cheers buddy 👍
