Satellaview BS-X - Naming Screen (Extended)

I do not know where does this song plays during the BS-X broadcasts, but I believe it plays after you turn on the console and navigate through some menus. Not really sure about the "Naming Screen" title, I ripped the song from an .spc file containing all of the BS-X sounds. I will never understand why Nintendo never released this outside Japan.

"I will never understand why Nintendo never released this outside Japan" A couple of reasons... 1. Satellite radio wasn't a thing in the US in 1995. The FCC didn't hand out satellite radio licenses to Sirius and XM until 1997 or so (after years of lobbying). Nintendo would have needed to retool the platform around alternative infrastructure - either cable TV (ala SEGA Channel) or dial-up. 2. The SNES was already obsoleted - at least, by the PS1 - by the time the Satellaview launched. The N64 would be out a year later, but all of Nintendo's business units already knew about it and probably wouldn't want to commit to launching a brand new service for a previous-gen machine right next to it. 3. It wasn't actually necessary in the US. The Satellaview let Nintendo squeeze a bit of extra life out of the Super Famicom. The N64 was a flop in Japan, but it sold well in America, so it doesn't make sense for Nintendo to support the SNES with a hardware peripheral. Especially when the N64 is gonna get it's own floppy drive attachment anyway.

How can this be nostalgic even though I didn't grow up in Japan and wasn't born in the 90s? I did have an SNES as a kid and that might be part of it but still, the melody of the song is just... I don't know, I miss being a kid

Basically, the BS-X has an Earthbound style world, and when you start it up, if you don't have save data (I'm not sure if there's a new game button with save data) you'll be prompted to select a gender and name your character. That is where this music would be played.

@Totmani its a broadcast system with downloads and autosaving the info once certain events happened, but how they pulled it off is the question of the century.

@@SunnyMitten I own a Satellaview, and basically, it shows your data at startup and you can erase it if you want.

What happens if you use the satellaview today because it was shut down. Also I kinda think this was only in japan because they want the best things only in japan and the worst in US/Europe.

Phalanx67 1. in the US the satellite never existed, it took the US a good 6 years to launch a Radio Satellite, 2. The SNES is dead.

Turns out the satellites that *were* used are now junk orbit, apparently. I've heard a company bought the satellites that were used, but there was definitely a succeeding generation (4th generation?) of satellites.

Been 3 years, but anyways. If you "use" the satellaview nowadays nothing will happen. If you power it up without the bsx cartridge you'll get a black screen. The satellaview has no use nowadays. The only thing you can do with it Is to get a unique error screen in Derby stallion 96. Instead of the " error 01, satellaview not connected" You'll get: "error 02, bit stream not input" It is the only thing the satellaview can do nowadays, and it's the only way to make sure that your satellaview even works

@@viper8908 Let me help you here, this part of the ost is (like all pieces of the soundtrack) meant for a form of music when it's not radio time (which is most of the day) the reason you probably can't find any video with this piece being played is because either: A. The player didn't go to their house or B. There was a radio broadcast which featured new wave music, talk shows, soundlink games and e magazines etc. Or it could be both. Hope I helped!

BootlegScarce :0 that’s because in June 30 2000 broadcasting ended, the year before this happened Nintendo and St Giga broke up, so it could be because of that.
