Remember doing this with my dad, I was outside dialing the satellite in 110 119. Then things changed we got a emachine windows 98, lol we had NetZero, & it would go out for just a couple seconds then it would roll the new bin on the box. We got away from the dish box and used coolsat boxes they were great. We watched a lot of NHRA drag racing, Bill dance outdoors, & watched all the pay pre view movies as soon as they came out. Such great memories my dad passed a couple years ago... But he showed me how to be a man !

Direct TV and all other corporations give me a chuckle when they calculate the loss they incur from pirating as being money they would've received, when most pirates would never give them a dime to begin with. Oh and then assuming that all the pirates would be buying the top end package! Priceless!

I haven't watched this entire video yet but i can tell you the nagra pairing still kinda works the same way as before. The nagra block 016c contains the boxkey, rsa key (3140), 3310, 3460, and the 3588 key (also known as data 88) Nagra3 cak7 also uses rsamod 1 or 2 which is usually hidden in a a piece called ROdata compressed into the flash. Sometimes both blocks are encrypted with a cpu key but not on nagra receivers before 2016. The 97 block contains the encrypted cwpk block and ofcourse the nuid which can also be read from the receiver menu. Other receivers use OTA-CSC which means the encrypted cwpk is sent over the air on a special pid stream with caid 18fe. You can pick up that stream with dvbsnoop do a bitswap and match the nuid. You willd need root access to the Soc to run a slimcore script to extract the decrypted cwpk that allows you to use the card in a softcam.

I watched this programmer at one of the big hacker conventions. I understood about 2% of what he was saying He basically understood in his head the entire encryption system and reverse engineered it in his head and wrote the code into a commercial head end Motorola receiver used by cable companies and unlocked everything on the satellites that used DC2 This guy was a genius Not anything anyone else could do, but he literally just had a brain that ran faster than a computer. I am sure the government grabbed him because I didn't see him after the presentation What shocks me is how much it s broadcast in the clear The satellite trucks and studios need to see the signal and they don't have the decrypted boxes, so the networks send them a clear signal on one of the news paths I used to have the list, it was about 10,000 transponders I am bedridden now and spend most of my time in pain too sick to even look at my phone. But I miss C-BAND

Back in the day they did send out news feeds in the clear in DVB however in recent years much of it has switched to 2-way IP. Check out how I hack the IP transit of 2 satellites in this video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-54DGCDpYvGA.html

@TalmidAndy

The early days of satellite TV in Europe was a great time for piracy. Sky was the big target in the UK with a few European satellites with more adult content next. The law that came from the broadcasters' attempts to lock it down was the biggest win for piracy as, in plain language, it made it the responsibility of the broadcaster to prevent piracy rather than making piracy itself a crime. Not only was it a great time for piracy but also for broadcast content. If you could imagine it at the time there was probably a slot for you to broadcast on. One of my favorites was an interactive 24/7 station which you could send text messages, faxes, voice messages, and a whole plethora of other communication means and they would then appear on your screen.. as chaotic as it could have been It was actually pretty civilized, well run, and had some great content.

There used to be a J-tag harness with parallel port on one end and other end had block with pins sticking out, all you had to do is flip the 301 upside down and insert the block into the opening and press it down to have the pins make contact with the exposed solder points on 30, there were also if I remember correctly waver cards, that you insert together with original card to have keys rolled or something like that. I remember messing around with SECA1 (that's a story in itself). I had a piece of hardware I don't see you having. That is the one that snoops on traffic to/from the card in real time. Useful to see what an ECM was doing and how to work around it. I think SECA hackers had a huge advantage since the entire source was leaked (again a whole alleged story there too).

Still there. Services like Hughsnet internet over satellite for example crams IP packets into MPEG streams so they pass through the old satellites in space. couldn't you just buy a parallel port pci-e adapter and save yourself the trouble of running an old pc? or just do that and run a Virtual machine for the old OS

Because I'm using the exact same PC that was used back in the day. Keeping things as real and as authentic as it gets.

@@peterfairlie2296 oh okay i get that. Original hardware is cooler anyway. Nowadays none of this is very convenient but I understand you making this video is more for nostalgia. This was before my time but I used to have direct tv as a kid. Nowadays I do the same thing but with vpns and torrents lol
