Excellent video. I watch a lot of sailing RU-vidrs and they comment on how power hungry the Starlink is. Well done finding that kit👍👍

Excellent stuff Greg, thanks for doing the hard yards for us and solving the 12V problem. I've seen US videos where they have permanently mounted the dish flat on the van roof using a 3D printed mount, and if anyone in NZ can offer that conversion as a service then I would be VERY interested.

If an NZ solution isn't available there's a mob in OZ who make one, sorry can't remember the name but watched a review recently so should be easy enough to find the info.

Hey mate, great video ... are you able to detail exactly how many amps the starlink draws via inverter, and then how it compares with the plug and play system plus new wifi router? Just curious how it compares at the end of the day.

Hi Greg, nice video, am i being dumb in thinking i can run the original SL modem off a 500w 12v inverter? it only draws 50-70w? even a 12v cigarette lighter plug will give you 180w? Thanks
@KiwiWanderers
@KiwiWanderers Год назад
Yea you are right running a small inverter is definitely an option. But this bit of tech is supposed to be more efficient.. I will do a comparison video once I’ve had it operational for a month or 2. Thanks for watching cheers Greg

Hey Greg Question for you with regards to the modem you're using in the vid, it looks like a TPlink Archer model which on looking at the specs for both versions run on 9V and not 12, just wondering if it is one of these and if it is how it is coping with the 12 volt input
@KiwiWanderers
@KiwiWanderers Год назад
yes it is good spotting, a very cheap and cheerful modem and it seamed to have no problem with 12 volts I didn't run it for long as I upgraded to the Grandstream GWN7062 which is 11-13 volts. but of course about 5 times the price of the tp link... Thanks for watching Cheers Greg
@stevebris3187
@stevebris3187 Год назад
@@KiwiWanderers Thanks for the reply, I thought as much but only because I bought the AC750 version as the on line specs I saw showed 5 volt power supply only to find when I got home that it was actually 9 volt. So I now either need to use a step down converter or perhaps try a TP-Link AC750 Wireless Pocket Router but only because it only uses 5v so could use a usb port. Thanks for the info I'm just adventuring down this road now. Cheers

Hey Greg this looks amazing and I have tried to do everything you did, however I couldn't get it working and I think it is the cable hack. The black box powers up but it doesn't power up the Starlink. I had a computer person change the adaptor to a Cat 5/6 but there were two sets of identical wires, one bigger and one smaller. He hooked up the bigger ones, but didn't know what to do with the smaller ones. Any help would be appreciated as I am very excited about this. Thanks James
@jamesgraham9651
@jamesgraham9651 Год назад
This is in the starlink wire extension just like you had so we didn't mess up the original starlink cable, I also like keeping my options open. Thanks James
@KiwiWanderers
@KiwiWanderers Год назад
Hi James I sent Arron from spacetek your question here is what he has come back with…I think he is referring to the starlink Ethernet adapter modification. If he is using the StarPower then he needs to be using the 568b standard and nothing else. The small wires can be cut off. If at some stage the wiring was incorrectly done he may have blown the internal fuse of the StarPower which can be replaced. Hope this helps
