２０１１年４月３０日、フロリダ州オーランドで開催された全米柔道選手権に出場。外国人も出場できるオープン部門で優勝した。石井選手は北京五輪の金メダリスト。今後は、米国市民権を取得し、リオ五輪（２０１６）へ米国代表として出場することを目指している。

For anyone who's wondering, on Ishii's gi it reads 'ganbare touhoku', which means something like "Come on northeast!" and is a slogan of support for the citizens of the northeastern region of japan, who suffered that huge earthquake.

no they didn't they did not ban him for joining mma wtf LOL he just moved to america and decided he was going to stay there otherwise hideko yoshida would have got banned too for joining mma but he did not he's quit anyway.
