Liquin original is still a terrific medium for working on-site; with all the different alkyd mediums available, Liquin still has so many advantages- thixotropic gel formula that stays put on the palette, but liquifies when brushed, desirable gloss finish, and fast drying rate. We really enjoyed this video, which shows why painting en plein air is such great training for working decisively and for packing as much information into each brushstroke as possible!
Great video as usual. That's such a good tip re keeping the colours warm. I've found that my paintings seem a little flat, so I'll keep that in mind for the future. I really appreciate you making these videos, I'm learning so much every time 😊
We enjoy Sunday mornings with you. Looks like the limited palette is here to stay for now, which speaks to your excellent color mixing skills. This week’s video yielded an especially beautiful painting. We’ve noticed the shift away from extra scenes of surfing, guest artists, music, and the burrito report from El Gran Amigo, which were also fun.
I now use my heavy fishing weights hooked on a single chain, with a hook on one end of the chain, to hang off the center of my easel. It's never blown over since when painting in the desert or coasts!
Fantastic job, sir! The painting is so beautiful! Great colors. I also like how you have developed your own distinct painting style. This location is really awesome! Greetings from the EU!
I really love your style and your explanation! You define the painting process very well. Also, the tone of the videos is super relaxing. You are truly talented! Congratulations for your work!! 🤠✨
Michael, another beautiful painting! I agree that art does not necessarily record the scene as it is, but recreates the lived experience. Thank you for taking me along on the journey.
On a day nice and bright Prepares to use a lotta titanium white Shape shifting, simplifying Wind almost has the easel high flying What’s guano? Never mind, don’t wanna know Less wind equals more fun Videos over, felt like it’s just begun Exaggerate, recreate Pa-tre-on where ideas germinate 🌊😁 A winner. I love the painting you did and the one in the background back at the studio too. Thanks for sharing! Peace and love..Suz What ☮️💛
I really like what you said that you can always darken the color but the most important thing is am I having fun here. Painting is sometimes stressful to me because I want it to be in certain way . but what you said was really inspiring. love the video!
Your really inspiring me to get back to painting.I was using both chalk and oil pastels for years.Really enjoying your style and teaching us as you paint.Your works are alive.🇨🇦
Love the saturated jewel-toned colors in this painting, Michael. You pushed them to just the right degree, touching up nature a bit. That comes with experience. Thanks for sharing your expertise.
Good morning Michael. I like how you pushed the colors in this, they do seem to create the sense of the lived experience. I am missing some transparency though. There is a convincing depth to the painting, and yet it also seems flat. Does that make sense? I still like it 👍🏽
A painting full of contradictions! Haha, I'm ok with that. There are bits of transparency here and there. In the green water for example. I lost the transparency in the shadows but I'm ok with that since I lightened them in value. Glad you like it!
I was just all up and down the California coast last month. I even found the spot in Pescadero where you made a painting, and of which I had made a painting from your tutorial last year. It was magical to see the actual place. (I live in Washington.) Anyway. My question is...do you ever paint in Big Sur? It's so epic. I imagine it could be the wind deterring you. But it'd be wonderful to see you paint there! (And since it's only a little further from Carmel and Pacific Grove, where you have painted in the past.) As for this video, wonderful work portraying the light! Love your work!

@@chamberlainpaintings Yes , it truly is , I’m on a replay , paused at 8:43 , Watching the imagery you create, change , progressively as through a movie, also looking to see you in a “‘ thumbnail ‘’ , and reading , Michael , everyone has noticed “‘ Your heightened distance down the path of Creativity’’’ although now, it feels like You have always been there . 👀 Awakening to your videos on Sunday has pleasantly spoiled me ; )
Michael, ( 12:59 ) , your brush still touching, everyone can see , the entire mid-ground of the cliff face, with upon the rock , before , in the water, ‘’ celestial in each in their adornments , they , , have gathered, ‘’ as a cathedral of angels focusing towards ‘ the one looking skyward upon the rock , in the near seas edge ‘’ ( a gentle rain with daylight has begun , just now , here , where I am , the sky is white with 🌧️ clouds, a whispered breeze speaks, the consoling beauty joins your unique creativity “‘ this moment “‘ . Fantastic! I have a question: for a short while you were using Rosemary brushes but I noticed you‘d gone back to Utrecht. Is there a particular reason? Thanks and keep up the great work!
How/why did you settle on this palette? The cad yellow medium is a bit unique. I've always used cad yel light and that's what I mostly see recommended. Was yellow light too "toxic greenish" or high chroma for your use?
I use cad yellow medium because it's what I had from my previous palette which had a warm and cool yellow. I wasn't using my cool yellow, cad yellow lemon, very much and found it to be toxic greenish so I went with the cad yellow medium when I decided to use one yellow. I love a warm yellow so cad yellow medium it is.
@@chamberlainpaintings Great. Thanks for the response. I asked because we literally use the same palette other than the yellow (and sometimes I replace thalo blue with Viridian). I should experiment with cad yellow med.
