This series is brought to you by: www.lowbrowcust...
Come take a journey on a custom Harley-Davidson Sportster build from start to finish with your favorite wild and crazy motorcycle tech guru Todd Muller. In this series you will learn how easy it is to take a stock Sportster and turn into a killer tracker style custom motorcycle with little to no fab work and utilizing a ton of parts we offer right here at lowbrowcustoms.com. We are calling this series the Saturday Sportster because all of these jobs we are doing on this bike you can nock out on a Saturday in your own garage. Who wants to spend their Saturdays on the couch? Not us, and defiantly not you! So follow along with Todd as he shares his tips, tricks, and knowledge with you and takes a boring stock bike and turns it in to something incredible and fun!
Episode 1 - Todd shows off the neglected stock Sportster we are going to start with and shares the plan of attack on what we are trying to accomplish with the build. He walks you through some of the fun parts and not so fun parts of disassembly. Taking off saddlebags, engine guard, seat, battery, rear fender, turn signals, gas tank, exhaust, air cleaner, pegs, carburetor, and so much more. Todd also gives you a sneak peak at some of the parts we are going to be utilizing on this build. "So, follow along with us, as we make this bike way cooler than it really looks right now!
WHAT PARTS WERE USED TO BUILD THE SATURDAY SPORTSTER?
Interested in how to build a custom Sportster, and what parts to use on the build? Well, you made it to the EXACT right place :) Watch the Saturday Sportster and follow along! You can find all the parts used when building the Saturday Sportster at www.lowbrowcus...
For Fun - What's better than working on a bike with Todd in your garage on a Saturday? Drinking some adult beverages or seltzer waters (whatever your preference) working on your bike with Todd in your garage on a Saturday. Here's a little hidden game in this series to help, if you hear Todd belt out a "Whooooo" and you see Todd's face sticker pop on the bottom right part of your screen take a drink. Play with friends, it's fun.

I don't own a Sportster or any kind of Harley, but I could watch Todd work on a coffee maker and still be entertained. It's amazing how cheap you can find a used Sportster with low miles. For a beginner like me, I'd be taking tons of photos as I took stuff apart...so I could remember how it goes back totether.

This is so great. I picked up a 96 Sportster a few months back, and it is my 1st bike. As I really don't know much about wrenching it yet, This video pretty much shows me how to take it apart, with real time video. I know its kinda a fun "lets rip this f'n thing apart" video for you, but it's actually very educational for me. Thank you! Happy New Year! Looking forward to watching this build!

These old rigid mount sportsters are pretty easy to work on. I've had my '99 model since new and it's been a great bike, and I've done all the work on it myself. I know it inside and out after all these years. They are very solid bikes. Hope you enjoy yours!

First of all, Lowbrow, PLEASE don't let Todd leave. He is by FAR one of the coolest guys on the web. What I wouldn't give to be able to hang around him and soak up some of that Harley knowledge. Sooner or later, I'm going to buy an old Sportster and do what he is doing, but maybe in just a little different fashion. I will follow along every step of the way because it seems that I learn best by watching. It sounds like you are going to put more $$$ into the bike than what you paid for it. That Hooligan kit isn't cheap, as are some of the other parts. Thank you, Lowbrow. This series will be awesome and by having Todd do it; it'll be even cooler. Thank you again and Happy New Year. This is such weird timing. Subscribed very recently and I picked up a daily double, two for the price of one set of sportsters day before Christmas Eve. One 1998 883 and one 2001 1200, both bikes for $2,100. The plan is to build the 883 into a street tracker … and I already have parts in route and have videos planned for each piece and day of the build! Should be fun to watch this one come together as mine comes to life as well. If the timing wasn’t weird enough for me of this video… the 1200 had old haggard saddle bags with a 10mm wrench, a Phillips head screw driver, Ibuprofen and a set of glasses. Feel like I was having dejavu watching this 😂

Love the Sportster build! Looks like it’s almost exactly what I’d want to do to one. Any chance of or interest in installing rear sets for the foot controls? By rear sets on the Sportster I suppose I mean more of a “standard” foot position. Maybe there is no interest in it, but it’s always something I thought I’d prefer to mid controls and am more used to on other bikes. Maybe I should just look for a Triumph Scrambler. lol Always awesome videos!

There are a few companies making sportster rear sets for flat trackers, also you can make certain Buell rears work with a little modification.

We just run mids on this, gives more stability for off roading. We dont have any rear sets available at this time but something can will look into...

@@lowbrowcustomsI would be very excited to see what you guys would come up with in a more standard or rear set style design for the Sportsters! The few kits I’ve seen come from small manufacturers and use the back portion of the primary case and belt or chain guard respectively to mount offset brackets, pegs and levers. Some seem of good quality and design, but I wonder if in practice the pegs would end up being wider than would be comfortable? I know if and when you come up with something it will be fantastic. Love the build and your videos!
