Ah...memories...childhood memories. I was 10 years old when this was on TV. This is what got me into playing video games. To this day, I STILL love playing video games.
Being 9 years old at the time, this was like a drug watching Saturday Morning Cartoons. I'm 32 and I must say that in my opinion, Fall '83 and Fall '84 were the best years of Saturday Morning Cartoons.
I'm 29 yrs old and I vividly remember watching this on channel 10. I was probably like 4 yrs old. Thats such a long time ago and I miss it dearly. It will never be a time like the 80's!!!!!!!! (I'm crying!!!)
I remember this show. I was a real Saturday morning cartoon freak and this show was one of my favorites. I would wait anxiously for Saturday morning to come so I could enjoy this. It's been years since I saw it. Thanks for posting.
Wow this is incredible. Just watching this reminds me of when I was a kid. I would wake up every Saturday morning at 6AM and watch LA Kid, Kid Quiz game show and then Saturday Supercade. That was my Saturday morning routine!
Saturday Supercade ROCKED!!! I remember laughing while singing the Frogger song, partially because the very last line sounded like, "Iss Stan Too!" and for some reason it just cracked me up!!
I grew up as a teen in the 1980s and I certainly miss all of it; music, television and so forth. I would trade everything I current have for just a month back in the '80s. Lets jump in the hot tub time machine and travel back to the 1980s to relive it all.
Thanks for posting this video. It really takes me back to my early preteen and teen years. Back when Saturday mornings were all about kids watching cartoons and having a good time; even if the cartoons were all based upon marketing ploys. I had many of those games for the Atari game system, and loved playing the arcade versions at my local 7-11 store as well. Good times.
I even remember they used to have a show on Friday that would showcase the new cartoons for the season and this one had me excited. It was kinda cool when all my childhood playthings had their own cartoons. They even had a Rubik's cube cartoon. Getting serious nostalgia right now.
OMG no frggin' way!!!!!! I haven't seen this show in like 25 years!!! at least probably more.. But wait until you hear this incredible coincidence.. Back in 82 I was making an audio cassette tape of all my favorite shows at that time. I was like 11 years old then well I recorded this on that cassette tape which I still have. I mean this exact episode!! that is just too weird.. I was sitting here and by accident I clicked on this and found it.. Man You brought me back to a happy time for me
I was 11 when this show was on, and I can't remember this for anything. I always watched Saturday morning cartoons, but I don't remember this at all. I don't see how I missed it.
I've had a snippet of the Frogger intro in my head for the past 23 years or so and have always wanted to hear the real song again. Thank you so much for posting this video and giving me the opportunity! You're my hero!
I'm only 16 so I never watched any of these shows, but it sure made me wish I was my parents age so I can have these video game movies. O well, I'm happy with my 90s nostalgia.
Thank you. I argued with a guy for a while that Mario was in a cartoon long before Super Mario Brothers. He didn't believe me when I told him about Saturday Supercade, or about Pryor's Place Richard Pryor doing children's television with Marla Gibbs.
*Sigh* The good ol days! I remember watching Saturday Morning cartoons, as far as 1996. I never got to watch the video game shows from the early 80s (Saturday Supercade) to 90s (Mario, Link, Captain N). I wish I grew up in the 80's.
Every few weeks, I torture myself by watching all of these old videos from my childhood on youtube. Now, I'm depressed. I'm only 35 but I feel like an old man, now!
This was just awesome! Can't imagine anything this cool being done today...it would have to be a show with shorts about like Yuna from Final Fantasy, the Grand Theft Auto guy, and maybe Master Chief from Halo getting barrels thrown at him by huge aliens...tee hee
Saturday Mornings before cutting that grass, I watched cartoons. I just pray that we don't become too serious and at the same time not let our children be children. Oh well, thank GOD for DVD's LOL
Haha I remember this mostly becuz the intro song is so awesome. Most of the cartoons on the show were kinda throw away. But I didn't think so back then.
This cartoon lasted only one season and for good reason...the video game industry was reeling from the video game crash of 1983 a year before and that affected all video game sectors. Also ratings for this show weren't as huge as other shows on saturday mornings since ABC was king with Super friends bugs bunny and others. Also NBC had the smurfs going strong. No wonder why this show lives on in youtube.
This is when Cartoons kicked ass i remember watching this every Saturday the whole line up rocked Its kinds cool to see the first animated Mario Befor he was all famous would be kinda cool to see this Mario animated into all the games and to see them bring back his niece Pauline in the games wait a min if Pauline's Mario niece would that mean that shes Luigi's Daughter!?!?
You're right. I was way too harsh. And-I really do want people to keep putting stuff like this on RU-vid. Television history( all of it ) should be preserved so we can view it. Yes,all of it. I love seeing stuff from way back. And yes, I watched Q-BERT and DK Jr. every Sat. morning-and liked it.
I had completely forgotten about this show until I was looking up Peter Cullen (Optimus Prime) to see all the different voices he did and he did the voice for Mario in this show so I had to check it out again.
I feel bad for the kids coming up today because there are hardly no Saturday Morning cartoons nowadays. It has all been replaced with saturday news shows and infomercials. Not saying that TV should raise a child, but the innocence that these cartoons exuded are gone. Back then, all the basic networks had a saturday morning lineup until 12pm.
wow, i'll bet Saturday mornings back in the eighties were fun!! especially when there's arcade charactors involved!! as a kid from the nineties, i'm pretty jealous!!
I hate my generation, I wanna go in the 80's. REAL music, REAL MTV, REAL television Saturday cartoons (none of this bullshit we have nowadays), and REAL fun! R.I.P. -Sincerely, an 18 year old girl who knows better
I loved this show & would love for this to be out on DVD. I'm pretty sure the Mario in this (seen with Pauline at 0:19) was the first ever animated version of Mario.
@londongravy That was Space Ace, which aired in Supercade's second season. He was the heroic title character who got zapped by an experimental Infanto Ray, causing him to change into the wimpy Dexter at inopportune moments. His sidekick was Officer Kimberly, who was voiced by Nancy Carthwright, who of course is most famous for Bart Simpson.
Pitfall sure is a nice game for my ps two by Activision. i never played it or never heard of it. Donkey Kong now have his own cartoon produced by Nelvana in 1995 in three-dimensional cgi animation. Only the special was released by Paramount Home Video on VHS. The name: Legend of the Crystal Coconut.
Man I just so barly remember waching these when I was like 5 years old. I remember every satuday morning Id wach this on the little 13 inch TV we had in the living room and eat cereal. lol
Actually the reason that this never was available in vhs,dvd or blu ray is the rights......At least are more than 12 copyright different owners of the video games and right now the most of the owners are no longer exists...that a really shame...
