This not a 2006 this is either a 2003-05 model because the bezel is different just as well as steering wheel and the ion name about the radio

This looks more like a 2003-2004 model because the steering wheel was remade in either 2004 or 2005 to a different look. And your radio was only on the ion in 2003. I used to have a black 2003 Saturn Ion myself. So I know a lot about this car.

theres a mod to put the radio from the ion into the s-series cars..requires some modification but you have a factory looking stereo with mp3 cd capability..

The ground wire you remove at 1:59, where do you reconnect that if the new replacement deck doesn't have a male end to connect that female end to?

They make a Male spade terminal with screw hole that might do the trick.

So I would just mate the terminal to my new head unit, or somewhere on the body?

There's a ground wire coming from the radio's harness. clip the blade off and strip a little bit of the wire off and connect the two. Secure connection with electrical tape.

Thank you for posting this video. My radio died this past Sunday 1/11 out of my Saturn 3 2007. However, the model is different from this 2006. The radio is the same as the ones in the Vue. Would the changing out of my radio model also match the steps that you took to remove the one in the video?

Can you swap Ion radios between years? I found a fancy 2006 radio that I'd like to put in my 2004 car. What issues would I encounter? Thanks!

No, not unless you take it to a dealership to have the Vin Lock reprogrammed.

Done in a flash :-)) Cant get much easyer than that, i suppose its very unlikely that anyone would want to steal that type of radio, so no security measures to lock it in place.

is this the same on a 2007? my 07 is also a manual transmission, does that change anything?

aph613 It looks like the 06-07 is different than a 04-05.Transmission should not effect anything.

The car he showed at the beginning was a ion quad coupe. But the interior of the car he worked on was a 2003 Ion 2 sedan. The should both be the same.

I have a 2003 quad coupe. Idk about the size either I find it easiest to just go to the junk yard and get speakers out of another ion they had different speakers from the factory there was just the base coax speakers then there were better speakers that came with the 160 watt audio system which had a built in amp in the trunk those speakers had built in tweeters in the speakers and also in the access panel for the Mirror

that is not 2006 model rich that is 2003-04 the radio and steering wheel = 2003-04 i have 2003

It could have been a 2006 quad coupe. But he may have done the actual removal with another car. This one looking at the interior is a 2003 ion 2 sedan it has a black trim bezel black gauge pack cruise control and a light grey dash the ion 1 had no cruise and the ion 3 has the white gauge cluster and the 2003 quad coupe like I have has a dark grey or tan dash and 2004-2007 has a black or tan dash.
