It's not that they can join in, it's that they CAN'T NOT join in. Like seeing a baby yawn makes everybody yawn. One of them gives something the least little rhythm and it drags them all in, willing or no.

Yay so happy for them for their Walk of Fame star. I love these ptxperience videos there's a whole bunch of them. Most of the time Avi looked like he was having a lot of fun. You can tell when it starts weighing on him. It's later after these videos. He keeps smiling, but he spends more time alone and loses a lot of weight. He also looks tired. I love when Mitch & Scott just break into song, harmonizing like it's nothing. Great reaction Thx Nick.😎

That part where Scott went louder and you told him to stop . . . he did stop doing that. Someone convinced him it would unnecessarily strain his vocal cords. That clip where Mitch said “Don’t leave” was their first ever livestream for their patrons. First time they tried to sing in that situation. You would enjoy the whole thing. “Little awkward babies” as Scott would say. Your talk about what you want to do reminded me of something. When Scott was about 5 or 6, he told his parents that he was going to travel the world singing and make people happy. He said that everything he did after that was to focus on making that dream a reality. Fortunately his parents took it seriously instead of just saying “that’s nice, honey” like many parents would have said. Rick and Connie rock.

This whole video is so fun AND impressive at the same time. That end is why we say Matt is a better fit for ptx. Nothing wrong with ptx, matt OR Avi, but as time went on it was just clear that Avi and the rest of the band operate on different frequencies, and that's totally fine. But when working that close together for so long, it starts to show.
@FayolaOnline

Yeah, initially it was the trio and then Avi and Kevin as kinda the more responsible ones. But ultimately Kevin is just a big kid at heart also.
@hernameispekka_Rebecca
@hernameispekka_Rebecca 2 года назад
@@FayolaOnline Yeah, I think a few years in they answered Kevin for who's the biggest goofball. I know Scott has said Kevin helped them learn time management and planning and such. Mitch was literally straight out of highschool. Loooooads of growing going on those years. And Kevin and Avi were not much older so did a lot of growing as well.
@jcs1025
@jcs1025 2 года назад
I think also that the band needed to stay mainstream and financially successful. They had to keep doing, at least in part, the types of songs and venues that Avi wasn’t a fan of. Matt was what the band needed to keep going in the direction they wanted to go, and now we have a whole catalog of Avi’s original music that we may not have had otherwise.

They were all still fairly young. Kevin and Scott and probably Kirstie seem more outgoing, whereas Avi and Mitch need some regular alone time to recharge their batteries. Eventually, they were working so hard, there was not enough time for that. Look how skinny both Avi and Mitch were getting in 2016. I think I heard Kirstie was also battling with anxiety at the time. Someone at the YT comments said they believe Avi was serious when he said he wanted to do what he was doing with Pentatonix for the rest of his life in 2011. At some point, he started wanting something else and that is completely fine. Kevin must be very good at time management to do everything he does and still be somewhat sane.

I totally disagree about Avi cringing through the Ptx days. He was having fun right along with them in all those other clips and so many other videos that aren’t part of this. He used to be much more silly with them in the beginning. Not sure if it’s just that he grew up or started taking himself more seriously. He made that face at the end because they were doing a rap version of the song run to you that he wrote with Kevin. Even Kevin was having fun with his beautiful song. I honestly don’t think the group changed over time for Avi to need to leave but I believe he changed as a member within the group.
@hernameispekka_Rebecca
@hernameispekka_Rebecca 2 года назад
Exactly! I think Avi mostly is different because an early 20s and early 30s person is usually quite different. He was the party-flirt of the group, having "sleep picture"-wars with Kevin, his superfrowns etc. He was always more serious and the "mom" of the group (their words) trying to wrangle what at the start was hyper 19year old theatre kids. But he for sure had loads of fun, no doubt about it. I think they all changed a bit, but neither very drastically. Just in different directions so a little change of either part makes for a bigger distance collectively.
@bill.godwin-austen
@bill.godwin-austen 2 года назад
Yep, don't read too much into Avi's expression there... his "superfrown" expression became "a thing", and he'd playfully throw one in when the whole group was just having a blast doing something. It became almost as much a "trademark" for him as his epic bass drops. In the Behind the Scenes video for "Radioactive", the video editor even had a "superfrown count" running in the corner of the screen for a while. While the stress of constant touring did wear him down, and his personal music style ran more to the folk/country/indie we've come to know and love from his solo career, the "superfrown" was just his way of playing along when everyone was being goofy and not an expression of dislike.

@SauceyDad, I'm almost 70, and I have news for you. The generations aren't as different as you think. My mother grew up during the depression. She told me that when she was young, young men rebelled against their parents (i.e. mostly their fathers) by getting crewcuts, because in their fathers' generation men grew their hair longer and had bushy beards, for that patriarchal look. When those depression-era kids became parents themselves they thought that a "nice" boy (one suitable to date their daughters) was "clean cut," but in my generation The Beatles became a big sensation, and the girls swooned over them, and the boys responded by growing their hair longer, trying to look like the Fab Four. Then we got enmeshed in Vietnam, a draft was initiated, and one of the ways young men rebelled (short of burning their draft cards and fleeing to Canada) was by growing their hair even longer, and growing beards, and their fathers said things like "Kids today! They just don't understand." (We understood a lot more than they thought.) That's just how hair styles have been used as tools of rebellion - basically a trivial matter - but it carries over into other areas. In every generation, kids hit puberty and discover sex, and seem convinced that they invented it (because the alternative is that their mothers aren't virgins). And in every generation they eventually come to the realization that yes, that *_is_* how they were born after all, because that's how puberty works. One of the necessary phases of growing up is rebellion. Sometimes it's something small, hair styles, say. Sometimes it's something huge, like burning your draft card and fleeing to Canada. Most often it's something personal, something that only makes sense in the context of the family you grew up in, but *always* it is a necessary part of differentiating yourself from your parents and becoming a healthy adult in your own right. I'm convinced that one of the oldest phrases, invented by whoever invented speaking in the first place, in whatever prototypical language it was, was "Kids today!" I'm sure that you had (or have) wonderful grandparents, but by the time you first knew them they were long past that awkward phase we all go through when we begin to think of ourselves as adults. Beyond that, they'd had more years to acquire wisdom than your parents had, and your parents had had more years than you had. You are comparing yourself and your generation to a moving target, and that's a comparison you can't win, any more than you could become a phenomenal singer by comparing yourself to Pentatonix. I'm convinced that true wisdom lies in determining who *you* are, what *your* special talents are, and figuring out how to be the best version of yourself that you can; and if you can pass on to your children a conviction that they, too, have special talents with which they can bless the world you will have done something truly remarkable.

I don't know how Kevin makes *any* of his beatboxing sounds. I just know that he's the best beatboxer I've ever encountered, and I would guess that he's the best beatboxer on the planet.

I love these guys and their random singing, but boy does it make you realise how ridiculously talented they are and very self-conscious about my own abilities lol. They make it all seem so effortless too. I think Kevin does the snare backwards on the inhale, maybe, I seem to recall whenever was talking about how he uses both the inhale and exhales for creating the sounds, which is why he can go so long without getting g out of breath because I think as a regular person attempting it we just do it kn the exhale and quickly run out of air lol. Still holdingnout for them releasing that chicken soup song, but also the rap version of Run To You. I agree about Mitch's rapping and it would be awesome to see them use that more, he has such a perfect, natural tone, cadence, and flow, especially with the clear way he anniunciates. It'd be interesting if he were to introduce rap into his Messer tracks, they're already getting progressively very different, hell I feel like he's creating a new genre of music with it. I think the newest one, Leather, surprised me most, he seems to be getting heavier & more experimental with it. Maybe it's only what they show and not what actually itxs like behind the scenes, but, I've also noticed that he just generally seems to be less bouncy, less happy and silly as a person; probably happened over the last 4 years or so (maybe from mid to late future friends is when it started to show - also around the time he & Scott stopped living together). I know people mature and grow up, shit happens in life that impacts our personality too (influence from the people around us - I know he was in a relationship but I heard that ended, idk if he's single now), but it just feels like we don't see him smiling & laughing like we used to. Perhaps Scott is the one that brings out that side of him, but spending less time together has meant he's become more serious. Maybe I'm over analysing 🤷.

Also... with regards to what you said about relationships... Oh boy, you really don't want to use any of my grandparents (born between 1899 & 1922), or even most of the next generation as any kind or role models for how families should be lol; 95% of them were horrible role models for relationships and for being good people in general. The divorce rate in my family (for those generations), is probably higher than most at that time. The only _good_ role models in my life come from my parents (they were married just short of 50 years when my dad passed away suddenly), and given that it's fathers day it seems only right that I wax poetic about what a wonderful man he was and just how damn lucky I was to have him as a father. My dad was the epitome of what a man/father/husband/partner (or really any person) should be: strong, hardworking, and thoroughly devoted to his family, he liked traditionally manly stuff like sports and woodwork etc, but he was always emotionally available to us, he cried unashamedly when something was sad, told us how proud he was of us, he hugged my brothers and I freely, never once complained if I covered him with Teddy bears lol (I have a great pic from when I'd just had my appendix removed, when he had sat and let me balance all my stuffed toys on and around him, he has this big smile like it was the best day ever), and never failed to let us know we were loved. After leaving the army between the birth of my brother and I, he took whatever work he could find and ended up working permanent nightshift to make enough money to support us, he did that for decades, and never had a sick day until he was disabled out at 59. Despite working long & ridiculous hours he did more than his fair share around the home too: cooking, cleaning, washing dishes...he was even the designated go to person for ironing & shoe cleaning (those army skills never leave you apparently); he never once complained or expected praise for it, never played dumb about something needing doing...he just did what needed doing, and my brothers & I were raised the same, it was just what family did, we all pitched in to make things work. The only thing he was never involved with was money management because he was terrible at that kind of thing & knew it so left it to mum to pay bills etc (hell he got his ATM card swallowed by the machine several times despite his pin number being 1111 lol). He was the exact opposite of toxic masculinity. He was always very accepting of diversity, when he realised I was bi, he was an awesome ally, and generally wanted to help anyone he could, he was a scout leader for years because he wanted to be a role model for boys who might not have a good male role model in their lives. And he would give you the shirt off his back or the last penny in his pocket if he thought you needed it.

I think I heard Mitch was fairly depressed last year. Having seen an Instagram live from early 2020 (slightly before the Covid and the break-up), there is a general feeling in that particular video that something was very wrong. He talked about his marijuana use and eating problems and was pretty upset about people saying mean things about his hair etc.

@@sannalopperi-vihinen233 Yeah, he for sure had a hard time during the pandemic. He also lives alone and as someone who also did that during the pandemic, I can tell you that it takes a huge toll on you. In the bahamas performance he seemed quite bouncy, as did he during the evergreen tour. So hopefully he's feeling better. But the things he struggle with is not something that will go away and goes in waves.

Just FYI, Kevin initiated writing the song and finished it with Avi. So it wasn't just "Avi's Song" But he did put a lot into it. I think in general Avi was not as rambunctious as the other members which is all good.
@gailseatonhumbert
@gailseatonhumbert 2 года назад
@@FayolaOnline I sincerely doubt that. Avi was the choral studies major. Kevin wrote the instrumental Renegade that he performed on stage with Pentatonix tours for ever. Avi used Run to You with his honors choirs and sang it with his group Syncopation that he had won a bunch of awards with pre-Pentatonix. They called it "Avi's song" not Pentatonix. Avi isn't into fame but he is into songwriting and has said when asked that he can not tell you his favorites because it would be like picking a favorite child.

@@gailseatonhumbert, you can doubt what you will but it doesn't change facts. It has been publicly stated that while Avi and Kevin were roommates that Kevin was the one that initially started on it and completed it with Avi. Ultimately it's a Penatonix song but it makes sense Avi's school would say it's his. Kevin usually did Julio, or bach/beatbox at PTX concerts. Not sure what tour he did Renegade, tho that is a great piece by him.

This answers all the questions people have on how do these PROFESSIONAL singers come up with their ideas and how do they practice. They don't. They get some BBQ ribs under their belt, lay about in hotel rooms until they get bored, and start getting stupid with their instruments. Only amateurs study hard, organize rational practice hours and rigorously adhere to the rules of music masters.

Given who these people are it's a given that their idea of having fun involves singing. Sometimes it involves singing badly - they're all so good that they can just laugh at that. And sometimes it involves coming up with something off the top of their heads, like Mitch in the car - Sorry, SaucyDad, I don't think that was an established song. But think about it. How do songs get written in the first place? One way (and I don't doubt that there are others) is for someone to have a vague idea, voice that idea, refine it, riff on it, see what comes of it. *Maybe* (depending on who is doing the song writing) most of the time nothing comes of it - so what? If you only have an idea that pays off one time in a hundred, you still have a new song that works for you. And if you're Mitch Grassi, maybe you just make a long car trip fun - again, so what? At least you had a fun car trip. And if you're me, you can't do it at all. I wish I could, but there are other ways that I have fun, so that, too, is okay.
