The number of actual, useful, mega projects is relatively small and circumstantial. Things like damns, major bridges, certain sorts of public stadiums etc . . . A linear mega city in the desert is not one of those things. Especially when the exact same mega city could be a fraction of the size, require a fraction of the energy, and a fraction of the upkeep.

@@axioms22 Some of these projects are technologically feasible, they're just difficult. The skyscraper twice the height of the Burj Khalifa could be built with reinforced concrete, it would just be massively impractical in many, many ways. You need fairy dust to get the line to work.

I just looked that up. Highest point in the area is only 8,500 feet, and they're WAY too close to the equator for that low altitude to retain any snow. I'm in one of the USA states with world famous ski areas, and FAR north of the equator, yet that puny 8,500 feet in the mountains here (many of which are 14,000 feet high) doesn't get enough snow to operate small ski resorts for more than 2 - 3 months in the winter.

The catch with the melting cars is that the skyscrapers were curved rather than flat. Therefore, they had a focal point where the reflected rays were concentrated--a very bad place to park! The problem that really bothers me, is that when the building heats and cools, it will expand and contract. Therefore, it will buckle somewhere (unless they put gaps in it).
