Great video and beautiful people and landscapes. I served in the US Navy in Riyadh during the first Gulf War and found the people fantastic, and the deserts amazing. Whenever I met people I used my appallingly bad Arabic to greet them. Even though it was awful, they loved the effort. Unlike many of the people I worked with, I got out into the deserts and souks as much as humanly possible. I even brought some petrified wood and fossilized shark teeth I found in the desert home with me! In 2002 I drove across the the top of Saudi from Manama, Bahrain all the way to London. The Trans-Arabian Pipline (TAP) Highway took me all the way to Jordan. It was amazing to be able to drive for endless hours and then just turn off into the desert to camp. Those were the days of ZERO tourism of course, and I felt incredibly privileged to have been able to experience even the smallest part of the Kingdom. I would LOVE to return now and really see it. Especially the Rub' al Khali. Unfortunately, my Defender is right-hand drive (UK reg) and I doubt they would let it in. Ma'a salama!!!

We really loved our time in Saudi and we are really happy that we had the chance to visit the kingdom on our own four wheels. Yeah, I heard the Saudis are really strict with cars that have the steering wheel on the wrong side 😂 I hope you can make it back there it is a great place to explore. And nothing changed, you can still pull off and camp anywhere.

11:47 The garbage because of the wind comes from another place, and from the subject of Indian workers. The reason is that the different cultures of Indians like to sit with each other, but some of them mix with the Saudis, and this is in all Gulf countries.👍🏻🌹
@Thebluelandy
@Thebluelandy 2 месяца назад
Sadly the wind blows and the fences collect all the rubbish. I can assure you Saudis are throwing rubbish as well, as we saw it in front of us as we camped in the dunes. A family came with the 4x4 and left all the take away containers on the sand when they left. It is sad, because Saudi Arabia is absolutely incredibly beautiful!!

Your judgment regarding the workers is wrong, and you didn't get the complete picture. The way you talked about it made it seem like locals mistreated the workers, but the reality is far from that. Everyone is doing their job, and outside of that, the relationship is normal whatever your work, nationality, citizen, resident, or tourist, all are the same. If any negative situation occurs, it is considered an unnormal case and punished by law.
@Thebluelandy
@Thebluelandy Год назад
Dear Ahmad, Right or wrong I guess is a matter of perspective in this case. If it seems like we’re talking about miss treatment, then I can tell you this is not what we felt like was happening. And I assume you’re right there are laws in place to deal with miss treatment. We were more talking about respect, we felt there was a lack of respect for foreign workers. If someone pulls into a petrol station and starts honking before even coming to a standstill to be refueled, this can be called rude or respectless in our opinion. Or Simply to say “Shukran” to the guy that cleans the bathrooms doesn’t cost me a penny but it can make someone else’s day by paying him respect. Cause he sees that I appreciate his service, and that the work he is doing is making a difference for me. This came to our attention, of course we’re coming out of a different culture and maybe have a different perspective on it.
@AhmadAlkinani
@AhmadAlkinani Год назад
@@Thebluelandy Thank you for your reply, but how did you know that all the locals don't respect the worker or do not thank them? "Shukran" is not the only way to thank in Arabic. As Muslims, we pray for others to be rewarded or blessed, and we have many prayers that we say to everyone who serves us, such as "Jazak Allah Khairan," which means "May Allah reward you with good," or "Allah Yatik Al Afia" means "God bless you with good health"... So if you see some random people who didn't do that, or you didn't notice if they did, it doesn't mean that the locals are all like what you thought!
@knightara
@knightara Год назад
@@Thebluelandyit just seems you’re repeating what you have read online! These workers are used to this place and we’re used to them.. What you’re observing is just a lack of enthusiasm in going to grocery stores or gas stations just like anywhere in the world not to mention that 99% of Saudis greet and thank every person they encounter. But when it comes to thanking I don’t think there’s better than giving and Arabs are the most charitable people in the world but we believe that giving should not be shown to anyone I don’t want to brag about it but since you brought it up but the amount of individual charity and donations that goes to these foreign workers are insane. Most of them come with the intention of spending the lowest amount of expenses here and transferring everything they earn to their countries. You might find honking disrespectful where you come from but it’s not considered disrespectful here it’s just became a way of communication. I love optimism in life but it seems that you lack some of that just be optimistic and your whole view of everything changes completely. Nothing in this world is perfect not me or you! Peace ✌️

When I saw the video and reached the part about what you described as the disrespect and bad treatment of the foreign workers, I wondered and thought about what you have might witnessed, expecting you to back this big accusation by describing a horrible scene of someone has been abused in front of you, but I didn’t hear any, then I read some of your replies in the comment section telling a situation of someone honking his car in the gas station, well, it seems that you came to the country with a mentality, an assumption that the disrespect and mistreatment of the migrant workers is the norms in this country and you were looking at anything to fit this narrative, but you didn’t find anything worth to be mentioned, except the "honking" story. We used to hear a lot of horrible stories about the treatment of the minorities, immigrants and refugees in the west, should we just believe anything we hear, we Saudis used to make trips to western countries and believe me, not every one we encounter is nice and respectful
