When I went there, I was still a hijabi but I didn't cover my face. All the men there looked at me or followed me. They would turn their face to look at me while they are driving. I've never experienced that in my own country. And I was 15. My friend also got followed in Saudi as a minor, her stalker waited for her to come out of the women's parts of masjids for hours.

As an European woman, I simply can not accept the idea of men being the protectors of women. Maybe this girl was lucky enough to marry a good man, but if it's not the case, she will be very miserable and mistreated in her marriage.. Who will protect her if her husband (who is supposed to protect her) doesn't treat her right? Here in Europe, we have a choice to be and do whatever we want by ourselves, and don't need any man to "protect" us, so if we are ever mistreated we can leave because we are financially and socially independent. Answering this question as a woman living in middle east basically in egypt and sometimes in saudi arabia wearing niqab (covering all my body, face and hands) i feel freedom and protection and more respect from society i am studing at dental collage going to be a dentist, going to gyms special for women to be more free in wearing what they want and moving freely our live is very beautiful following Allah's instructions (Qura'n) and prophet's Hadith
And also we do body care, put makeup, wear fancy dresses, accessories in our homes and women groups, we go to beaches for women and we travel with our mehrems (father, brother, son, grandfather, uncle) to protect us anywhere

There is no law in Saudi Arabia that prevents women from going out alone....Mostly parents will not let their daughters go out alone at night because they are worried about her, so they send someone with her to protect her.

As a Scot living in Saudi, my observation is that women choose to be modest here. Men are very respectful towards women and women are respectful towards men. Tyranny exists in every country if the relationship is toxic. Modest dress is something that women can still do and look beautiful. Saudi is a great place! Do not judge what you do not understand. And Many women where hijab with no niqab, and trust me they are absolutely breathtaking and modest at the same time.

There are of course cultural pressures to be very modest. It is ultimately the woman's choice. Many women prefer to remain in full Niqab, but it is changing with ages. I think women go to far in the west. Men also must not be overly flamboyant here also. It is about respect of family values here. It is a great place. It is not perfect but I know HRH MBS is tackling many issues at the same time. I think most expats understand how lucky they are to live here with the changes, so I happily embrace their laws and mores.

Women in Islam are not meant to spend on themselves, their men are to take that responsibility. Basically what he is saying is that women have rights but it is the mans job to protect her, that is why most muslim women always travel with their husband. They are not oppressed. They are protected. The covering is worn to protect her purity. To protect her from the learing gaze and impure thoughts of strangers and to protect other people from the sin of inpure thoughts from looking at her. If you really think aboutbit, women covering themselves is just as much for your salvation as it is their own.
