I’m 38 year old girl trying to learn how to be 100 percent independent. First time making a crock pot meal today, with some guidance from this video. Thank you! Easy and fast guide, not overly complicated. I made mine really basic. We will see how it turns out. 🙂
German woman here, from Braunschweig....I'm SO DOING THIS! Now, I will use red spuds simply because I prefer them, but I agree the russets WILL add texture, too. Going to go for the Polish sausages, too. Again, it's what I prefer. AND before my fellow German's come for me, stop it, get creative, think OUTSIDE the box.
I made this last night. It was a big hit. Reminded me of what we used to eat when I was a youth in Chicago. Only difference is I mixed all the ingredients before adding all the seasoning. Great easy recipe. 👍👍👍
Thanks for reminding me about this recipe. I used to make it long ago and added apples and brown sugar to it too. Wish my husband liked sauerkraut - it makes a ton for just me to eat it.
you could make this recipe smaller, just use a smaller crockpot ( I actually have one that's only about a quart and a half) only do 2 potatoes, slice up less kielbassi and use a smaller can of kraut.
@@Pez2176 I found my original recipe - 1 package of cooked bacon crumbled; one or more granny smith apples and one or more potatoes; 1/2 box of light brown sugar, 2 bags of fresh saurkraut, 3 packages of Kilbasi or sausage, so it always made a ton and I cut recipe in half
Thank you so much for this recipe. I just happen to have all the ingredients for this recipe so I am going to make it this week. I'm sure my husband will love it. I think I will make cornbread to go with it. Thanks again!!!!
Was going to have lasagna for dinner tonight but now I need to dash out to the grocery store to get these ingredients. Thank you for all your easy and delicious recipes!!
Made this today. It was absolutely delicious and so simple. Only thing I did different was I crisped up the kielbasa a bit first and added some everything but the bagel seasoning to the crockpot. Was really good. Thanks again!
I use the Georgia Boy or King Cotton smoked sausage because it is just about as locally made as I can get. I live in North central Alabama. The Georgia Boy is made in Georgia and the King Cotton in Tennessee.
Love this and we also cube up a pork roast instead of sausage !! Absolutely amazing ! A big ole piece of cornbread to sop up the juice !! Yes please ! Thank you for this !!
Had to go get sauerkraut, came home and threw it all in my smaller crockpot! Read the comments, so I added a chopped apple and I love mushrooms so 6-8 chopped crimini went in. Can just begin to smell it now. Sunday dinner, yay! Thank you!
I am looking for good recipes cooked in the slow cooker as we are renovating our kitchen and I don't currently have a stove or an oven available for cooking. This recipe will be delicious, will make this next week for sure! 😋😋😋
My mom used to make this with a pork roast. She also added some brown sugar and rye seeds. I haven't thought about this dish for a long time! Thank you for bringing back childhood memories! God bless you!
Well Catherine, remembered I froze new years leftovers kraut, made your kraut crockpot wish I had the sausage yo had it sounds so tasty,I had hilshirie smoked, with my leftover kraut it turned out fabulous, never would have thought to do make t your way. Thanks for dinner :)
This looks wonderful Catherine! 😍 This was a staple in our household when I was growing up! 😘 I really think my mom added potatoes to the sausage and sauerkraut to stretch the dish to feed all 5 of us! 😋 This is something that my siblings and I still make all the time! ☺️ In fact my sister and I had it last week! 😚 I find the same sausage at HEB and it's really great for this meal! 🤩 I think we could be sisters because we both were brought up with the same kind of food and it's almost like we had the same teacher! 😁 My sister also got the big jar of sauerkraut which was way too much for our meal. But the great thing about that is having some left for hot dogs! 😉 And if we still have more after the hot dogs then next week is St Patrick's Day and sauerkraut is great on Reuben sandwiches! (And she had one last night!) That big jar of sauerkraut doesn't go to waste since we have so many ways to use it! You've taken a lot of us down memory lane where we think of great meals growing up! And this is a tradition for all the kids now all grown up and we remember our mom when we make it! 🤗 Thanks for sharing another great recipe! 🥰
Hi Catherine!!! This is one of my fav dishes also. I eat it with cut green beans. I have never made it in the Crock Pot but I will try it next time I make this meal. I'm going to have to make it soon because now I'm hungry for it. I would mash my potatoes only because that's how I like it with this meal. Looks super yummy to me... Great video!!!...🦋
This is almost same recipe as my "beer n bratwurst soup"..... I use bratwurst sausage, red potatoes, 2 large onions, large bag saurcraut, same spices and a 16oz can beer. Yummy they're so good!
Be still my heart ! ! ! I have not thought about this recipe for decades. One of my favorite foods sauerkraut. I know crazy. You have a sweet tooth n I’m just the opposite. When u dump a cup of sugar in a recipe I cringe, lololol not really, we all have our favorites. Thanks for this one thought. Brought bad a flood of memories.
Good morning Catherine. This looks good, but kraut doesn't agree with us, but plain old cabbage does so will try that or the green beans. Love crock recipes. Thanks. Take care
@Connie McCollam, My brother and I used to make this dish but not with kraut. We cut up a large head of cabbage and the results was delicious. We were told it was called bubble and squeak because it could case a bit of gas. We usually had a lot of liquid so it was like a hearty soup. We ate it with slices of our version of batter bred which was like a giant biscuit baked in a cast iron skillet. The bread was good to sop up the rich juices.
I wouldn't mind using cooked sausage but my family hates it! I have a small town supermarket near me and since we moved here 5 years ago we buy the fresh polish sausage for 2.99 per lb. We love it. I make mine almost exactly like you do, only I put the fresh sausage in, in whole links on top of the potatoes, then I always use Vlasic polish kraut, we love the caraway seeds. I always rinse mine, I have since my ex fil taught me to rinse it first while I was making it for a big crowd a whole lot of years ago! Definitely cuts way down on salt. I just sprinkle a bunch of black pepper all over and slow cook for 5-6 hrs.on low. Delicious! Love your channel and all of the yummy recipes!
This is a so good and easy to make!! I sometimes cheat and used the can potatoes and cook it on the stove too. Love the smell of the house when this is cooking.
This looks so good. I don’t make crockpot recipes too much now that the kids (5) are grown. But we would love this one. I may have to have the kids and family over just for this. Thanks Catherine
I make this with a shredded cabbage. I use 1/2 onion in the crockpot. Right before serving I sauté 1/2 onion with sausage and put a heaping spoonful over a bowl full from crockpot. I can’t wait to try yours with sour kraut. 🥣
Love this recipe. Being European descent, I really enjoy kielbasa. I would use Frank's sauerkraut. It doesn't have such a sour bite. The milder taste is better for me. I would also try this with cabbage. Thanks for the recipe.
This was delicious! even my husband liked it and he does not care for sauerkraut! I cut down on the sauerkraut and onion a bit just in case. Thank you 😊
Thank you for sharing Catherine have a blessed day stay safe and healthy. Love this recipe yummy I'm making tonight was going to use cabbage but the sour kraut sounds even better delicious.
Made this today, just as you did in your video.Serious yummers, and the house smelled soooo good all day.Used regular pork store brand sausage that was on sale. Both complete rings went into the pot.I have lots for the weekend,,and to freeze.Another winner,Catherine! Thanks for sharing!!
My Mom loves you and specifically requested this one so I am making it for her this week. I love that I can veganize this using veggie broth and vegan (fake) sausage! (for myself.)
