Sausage Stuffer Review - Cabela's Sausage Stuffer vs MEAT Brand Stuffer

Thank you for watching my Sausage Stuffer Review video. I compared the Cabela's Sausage Stuffer vs the MEAT Brand Stuffer. The Cabela's Stuffer worked with some issues but I beleive the issues would not make it a stuffer that would last a very log time. The MEAT branded sausage stuffer is built with better quality parts that will last longer than the Cabela's stuffer.
Thanks for watching

I used to work at Cabelas in that section, we got a lot of returns on the stuffers but also the lower end grinders. The higher end grinders have metal gears and the lower end one have plastic gears, which wear out fast. Make sure you buy one with metal gears! ;)

What an excellent level of detail. These are the pit falls that a beginner would not know about, without good honest reviews like your's. Too many other channels never mention anything negative about the products they use or are given.

Joe I really appreciate this review. I used to be a HUGE Cabelas fan. But just a few years back they got purchased by Bass Pro and it's been downhill since. I noticed products that had the Cabelas name were discontinued or suddenly made by a different manufacturer. And never with the same quality that used to be a hallmark of Cabelas products. So I feel you're frustration. The unit you're replacing with looks great. Have a great day.😃👍

I have the Cabelas stuffer and your review is spot on. Have not had it long enough to replace any parts, but your review was timely. I had problems with the handle coming off so I drilled two holes in the handle where it fits on the shaft and used a die for set screws. A person really needs to be inventive when mounting this stuffer since there are no flanges or holes, but I made it work. Unbolt the base and attach a board or other surfacehat you can clamp to a counter, table, etc. Thanks for the excellent review

Good review Joe! Can't believe they make the piston out of plastic!! Mine is metal. I'm upgrading to an electric stuffer. Should be here this Wednesday. Crossing my fingers that it's not cheaply made. Really hard to know sometimes without reviews like this one. Thanks for sharing!

Long time watcher of your channel Joe, appreciate the review. Well I purchased a stuffer at Cabella's today and then looked on line for a review. I noticed yours and saw the complaints you had regarding the unit you purchased and how you felt about it in comparison to the Meater. Apparently, Cabella puts out a 6lb HD unit that clears up many of the negative factors you pointed out and corrected them all except for the O-ring gasket. Seeing this I feel more at ease with my purchase, if your interested the review can be seen by a gent called Smokin sousvide in his positive demonstration. This smaller unit mimics the Meater in many ways, and so even though I haven't used it yet ( ain't but 20 hrs old ) I 'm a bit more satisfied with my blindfold purchase. Thanks

Great review Joe. I’m a beginner at sausage making and recently bought a Hakka stuffer. It’s pretty for me,but like the Cabela stuffer has a large cavity in the bottom.

Thank you sir. I'm of the opinion no worm no thanks. I used to make sausage and i have to say its nice to see people like yourself testing so we don't have to waste time and money on poorly designed products. To everyone that reads this you get what you pay for so don't skimp when it comes to equipment. I used to work with 40kg tubs so i know what i'm talking about. My money is on the 2 in one but just because the grinder can come in handy a lot more often than you think. :)

I have the 15 pound MEAT sausage stuffer. It was very very hard to drive the piston down making regular link sausage with 32 mil casings. Im even talking with spraying the inside of the can and the o-ring with olive oil spray and making sure my sausage meat had a min of 10% water. Even added more water several times to try and make it easier. It took a grown man two arms to turn it. We tried to make snack with the 17mm casings and it was impossible. Literally even with 12% water added we couldnt turn the crank handle to push the meat through the horn that would fit the casings. Literally felt like we were going to break the piston and/or the handle, it did actually put some hair line fracture marks in the plastic piston around the nut area where it screws on. I contacted MEAT and told them and they sent me a new one. I dont know if the first one I had the tolerances were off or not. I have not had a chance to try the new stuffer yet. Looking forward to it. I am not trying to throw dirt on MEAT I love the company. I have the 1.5 hp grinder which is the ultimate beast for grinding. I also have the 50 lb mixer as well which works amazing. Just didnt have luck with the stuffer. The customer service was awesome. Looking forward to trying the new unit. Has anyone else had trouble like this? Joe, I see your daughter helping you by turning the handle. That would be impossible on the one I had. It took everything I had to turn the handle like I was saying or regular links.

I noticed how a lot of products from spotting good stores don’t have any real way to contact the companies directly that’s a huge concern for me as I had gotten the runaround over ez-ups and even more recently a meat grinder from academy sports smh I’ll make Purchases like these from the company directly from now on thanks for the informative video…..

I was gonna pay that high price for a meat grinder and sausage stuffer brand. I still cannot find the details of the internal gears of the meat brand grinder anywhere. Not even on their website. However, I did find out the gear of their stuffers are plastics. So I decided to not buy meat brand and I read reviews saying their customer service is horrific. I just ordered a Weston #12 750 watts 1hp grinder from Amazon for $130. I like that has medal gears and not breaking the bank. Will order the Weston stuffer once they have a deal because the Weston stuffers has medal gears.

I have Hakka stuffer that's similar to the Cabela's one that you should. I have some of the same issues with it as far as the amount of sausage left in it. You can put the canister in the direction that you need to take care of the crank and issue. So it'll go in facing either direction. Overall I'm not impressed with the Cabela's stuffer by the looks of it.

Don't know how you researched your purchases, but I have found anything with the Hakka label to have addressed each of the points you made on these two stuffers. The plastic stuffing tubes are really junk, Hakka's are stainless. Also the Hakka's handle has a wing nut you can tighten on the spline. Before you all scream "made in China" check your stuffer made in label. Just got my electric stuffer and getting acclimated to it, so far so good. Been in the industry 30 plus years, brought my work home as my "hobby gone wild". Good review though.

@garyreinke5161

You have more control with non-electric, especially near the end of the casing. It is necessary to slow the stuffung process so you can grab the stuffed casing and twist it prior to tying or stapling.

A friend gave me a Weston stuffer that ls very similar to Weston/Cabela that you reviewed. It's a total POS! The plunger doesn't retract high enough to easily remove it or swing the canister enough to load more meat. It has the same flimsy plunger with the cheap plastic valve. The canister fits so poorly a mallet is needed to remove it from the retention pins. It's disappointing that Cabelas would market such a shitty product under their own name. I'll be throwing it in the trash because I can't sell it with a clear conscious. So far the stuffer by Meat, Lem, and the Sausage Maker brand look the best of the consumer grade stuffers though I am considering splurging on a Dick.

Very accurate evaluation of the Cabela’s stuffer. I have one and a friend of mine has one....It can’t stuff through the smallest horn to make breakfast sausage or pepperettes...IMO the canister metal is fabricated with a metal that is too thin of a guage, which makes it flex and thus there is blow by of the meat between the canister and plunger (piston)....All in all it is criminal that they would even charge for this poorly designed-cheaply made-piece of garbage.
