I had the chance to review this neat old pistol and it was a joy to shoot! I have long held the opinion that newer pistols really aren't that much improved. Since the late 50's most firearms design has been aimed at reproducing the same levels of reliability with cheaper manufacturing methods. This is a prime example.

Disassembled mine for the first time and didn’t pay attention to the the spring until reassembly. It has an open end which I figured would be towards the muzzle, but wanted to be sure. Yours is the only video I found that had any sort of example and you even explained as to why it should be that way. Very much obliged pilgrim!

You can use the safety to lock the slide back before removing or re-installing the breech so you don't need the so called "death-grip" to hold the slide back.

I have had two of these, and it's much easier to just lock the slide back for take down and reassembly. I was wondering why he made it so hard.

I concur regarding reliability and manufacture of older pistols. I am specifically drawn to this Savage Model 1907 and hope to find one that has not had too many rounds through her. I appreciate your video. Thanks!

These pistols are no joke. They found their way into WW1. Many have survived over 100 years in good working order...

One of my two favorite and loved guns. I have the one my dad owed, my grandfather owned first. It's a beautiful firearm. (Oh, the other. My father in law gave me his Winchester 1890 pump action 22 in WRM. Sweet.)

Gansters liked this gun, most removed the front sight to prevent snagging as it was drawn from the coat pocket. I inherited mine from an uncle who helped his Chicago pals move in on Vegas in the 40’s. the pistol had no front site till I had my gun smith make one for it. Gerald Decker died when I was 3 yrs old I am now 68

I recently obtained a Savage model 1907 through my grand father as it was passed to me and am considering acquiring a concealed carry permit and was curious if this would be adequate for self defense purposes.

+Alex Hensen Take it out and shoot a hundred or so rounds through it, make certain is functions reliably. If it does, carry it. =]

Nice video. One thing though, you can lock the slide open with the safety, the same way you can with a (Browning) FN 1900. That will take the pressure off you hand during takedown.

I wondered about that. Thanks! I was afraid to try it in fear of damaging this old girl.

Picking one up soon. Thanks for the good video. Will be a nice addition to my 2 1903 .32 Colts and 1908 Browning FN... 32 cal is not a round I would want to be shot with.

I own one in prestine condition and for a 108 year old pistol it is amzing, mine was manufactured in 1911. This thing shoots, functions, like it was made yesterday. The quality is beyond unbelievable. I dont really have it up for sale but for the right price might be swayed to sell, been eyeing another firearm so I am considering selling?

I have a Savage Arms Model 17 in .32 ACP. It was made in 1920 and is almost 100 years old. It is is excellent condition with just a little holster wear up front at the barrel. The barrel looks like few rounds have been fired. You really need a strong grip to pull the slide back on this semi auto. I have not fired it yet but it seems to function perfectly. I have two 10 round double stack magazines with it. My only problem is that no matter what I do I can only manage to get 8 rounds into either magazine. I do not think the rounds are staggering left and right properly as they are being loaded. Does anyone know if these mags can be stripped to be cleaned? I tried cleaning and lubing them as best I could without stripping them.

hi there! Thanks so much for posting! Can you suggest the best oil or cleaning solution for these pistols? i'm new to the game, and don't want to ruin the frame - someone suggested steel wool (0000) and some kind of cleaner or oil? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciate. Thanks!!
@possumpopper89
@possumpopper89 9 лет назад
0000 wool is useful for removing light rust from firearms but can eventually remove some of the finish as well. If cleaning rust from a blued pistol I use an old bronze bore brush and gun oil to remove the rust. The bristles are soft enough as to not scratch the finish. After the rust is removed, the yellow marks left behind by the bore brush can be removed with solvent that can remove copper fouling. I use shooters choice for that and for most general gun cleaning. I use synthetic lubricants to lube the guns. Mostly Militec1. Frog lube has become popular as of late but I have never used it since I got a large supply if the Militec years ago.

Very interesting video about the Savage 1907. I make miniature guns and I recently finished a 1/4 Scale Savage Pistol Model 1907. You can see it on my channel.

I recently purchased a Savage model 1905 32 acp on gunbroker.com and wonder if a magazine from another model Savage 32 acp will fit it?

James Leadabrand not sure. They made so few of this particular model I would assume so.

how much does it sell for
@possumpopper89
@possumpopper89 9 лет назад
They are fairly inexpensive. They run around $250-400 depending on condition. The market is small since most folks have no idea what it is.

I have seen them in the $550.00-$600.00 range myself. I have a very nice one made in 1911 tight and right it is a beauty and I was going to ask $475.00 so a bit lower than the average, maybe the damand is rising which is supply and demand so price is skyrocketing?
