Brownells Gun Techs Steve Ostrem and Keith show us pistols from the 1907 U.S. Army trials, which eventually led to the M1911's adoption as the Army's standard-issue sidearm. First up, we see a beautiful Colt Model of 1905 - essentially the classic 1911 with a more squared-off grip angle and missing a few refinements. Then two examples of the Savage 1907, one beautifully restored, one with a "patina." The commercial Savage 1907, chambered in .32 ACP, is well known to collectors but these examples are larger and chambered in .45 ACP. The Army, and generations of pistol shooters, preferred the Colt.
