I think this is great advice. Don’t forget boys. You don’t have to start at your goal. If your goal is to shadow box one hour a day. Start with 10 mins a day, then 15 mins, 20 mins. You get a confidence boost everyday you do just a little more and you will be at an hour in no time. Beauty of life is that it doesn’t matter where you start, only matters that you don’t give up. Thanks for the great tip coach! Peace.

@@Leprutz Just keep at it and check your stamina in 7 days period of time you'll see the difference. The point is no relenting even when all your muscles and body tell you to

When I started kick boxing back in 1983, my sensei John Rosas Jr. didn't have us do anything for the first month or two except workout and learn basic striking facing a wall of mirrors. Form was the most important fundamental, then flexibility and strength. Then we started very light training drills and light sparring and eventually, those who could take it had to be invited to join the full contact training. People watch professionals fight and never stop to think of the time and dedication it took to get them to that point. There are no short cuts. That's tougher to understand the older someone is when they start training :)
@@tattoodrdokemy lord I took a muay thai class for free and i almost passed out I swear hitting the gym for 3 hours is easier than a 30 min lesson hahahah but i loved it the trainer who apparently was 24-0 offered me free personal lessons but I never went back
That running or jogging really does build heart. I remember last when I was jogging pushing that pain and fatigue while hard was so fun. I recommend for every jogger or runner that's starting out when your on your last drop in the tank, dig deep dig as deep as you muster and just push through even foran extra second. just one second of breaking past your limits is so powerful. Much love.
Lol that’s what’s up bc I’m not running even if something was chasing me 😂 But I’ll do the shadow boxing for sure. I’ve played enough sports to know that I have great will power AND that I hate running 😂
@@TinToeTimmyTime not a great mindset to have, the whole idea is to break out your comfort zone to build that mental strength which will train your ability to remain disciplined and consistent in anything you do.
Yes. Shadow box for an hour and a half every day without any lessons on proper form and technique. That way you develop bad boxing habits right out of the gate.
I’d say flood yourself with the best in the business watch a lot of fights explore theory and technical aspects of it then go to the bag early on to show yourself you are enjoying this. To do a bit of what you are here to do. Conditioning is separate
I get your point but say you do this as a beginner for 3 months, you've potentially got 135 hours of bad habits you now have to unlearn from the shadowboxing. Not putting it down just my thoughts
Stumbled on this video, and I like the emphasis on avoiding outside stimulation, keeping things sharp, staying mentally focused, and doing it by the heart. I think this can apply to a lot of things in life; I definitely gotta try this with running in the morning atleast
How's it going. I'm an older guy and just starting out. I got jumped and beat a few weeks back, didn't even know how to throw a punch or defend myself. I know I will end up seeing them again so need to make a start. How is it going.
@@megmucklebones7538 get a firearm dude. Avoid confrontation and use it as a last resort. Boxing is an organized sport. The streets have no rules. Plus you got jumped. You can't box everyone at the same time.
@@rickphilly1975 lol, I'm in the UK. And my issue was that I didn't let my hands go, I could smack him first as I was at work, stopping him and two others walking out with baskets of goods. I no longer work in that job. If I had crunched him first, everything would be fine. I disagree, leaning how to throw punches, be cardio ready and being able to avoid being hit is a huge advantage to anyone. Of course, know when it's about to happen and know when it's time to run.
Wow, I thought it's going to be others video that jump into very detailed and well programed training. This is actually the truth. Most beginners don't even have that mental strength to grinding their body to the hell and back. Very simple move and tools are what beginners need! People now days just made exercise science rocket complicated. Keep it on mate!
As a total beginner I just have to raise the concern, won't shadowboxing without knowing (no form) what I'm doing teach me bad habits that will be hard to forget later?
It's funny how you always hear the phrase "you can't teach heart" implying that you're naturally born with it. One is not born with it nor is it taught, it is trained. I needed this motivation bro. I've been out of shape for over 2 years now and need to get back in the groove. Starting this tomorrow.
Good luck bro, I started my get back in shape through boxing journey about two months ago. Haven't lost a damn pound because my eating habits ain't there yet. But I've gotten faster, stronger, more confident, and can throw some mean punches while having good form and fundamentals.
@@codycox2685 Damn, at least you've made some progress in many areas. Weight in itself isn't always an indicator of how good in shape you are. You might be heavy but muscular. What program do you follow? I want to do the shadow boxing and running to get started and lose some weight. I want to replace my diet with good food so I can burn the damn excess fat right now. Keep working hard bro.
Sounds pretty good. I just wonder, if you do 2 months 1 hour/day worth of unsupervised shadowboxing as a beginner, you might build A LOT of bad habits that have to be corrected later. But I guess if it's to be seen as a preparation before the "first training", it will still give you a gigantic head start since with some practice you can get rid of these errors
Thank you for you Tipps👍🏼 I've started getting in shape again. Your videos motivate me. I Hope for more videos about conditioning training and tips to be good at sparring💪🏼Sparring ist very Important to Improve the Skills
Same for me brother but in sweden im 19 yrs tryna figure out more and more tips and tricks on how to step my game up for my students and for my boxclub. And this was great advice for me
MAN…. I had to learn this on my own. It took me five years to learn this was the basics for me, FIVE YEARS. I got it though, I had to learn on my own. It is definitely a Mental Game. When my father passed away, Monday, December 27, 2021, I became depressed and stoped training just eating. When I came out the depression and was 227 pounds, I was still able to work my routine by the grace of God. He never forgot about me, he keeps me fighting.
In my opinion beginners should never box outside the gym, because they have no coach to correct their form. So they can form bad habits without knowing.
Preach! This was exactly what my trainer told me back in the day and i'm still doing it till this day for the last decade even after i'm not a boxer anymore. Thanks for sharing this to the rest of the world💪
question: what to train in the shadow boxing sessions? I am trying to do a jab => stright => low kick for combo. Simple side steps with an uppercut as a counter. and maybe some footwork exercises that I need to know.
I’m so glad I’ve found your channel dude. I’ve been feeling stale on the punchbag lately, shadowboxed last night for the first time in years and what a workout 🤙
If I'm a beginner and I'm shadowboxing does it matter if I'm throwing punches wrong? I'm worried that if I do 1.5 hours of shadowboxing every evening but throwing the punches with bad form, I'm going to ingrain those bad movement patterns into my brain and muscle memory.
You are absolutely right. The breathing part, mentally, in tough situations is more than people know. Gassing out after 1-2 mins, like a street fight, is not being in shape. Great video & explanation 🤘🏽
Thank you so much man I’ve been struggling for years on how to build a boxing routine and I’ve always just overtrained or was never consistent because I’d have all these other exercises I will start trying this
If you don’t have a coach to correct your 1 hour of shadow boxing your going to practice the same mistakes over and over again. You do need oversight. Other than that good job!
Thank you for this, def about to start doing this as my routine. The jogging of is going to be tough as I work nights and Colorado has been getting a lot of snow but I'm going to make this a thing.
This is great advice. I use boxing to rehabilitate my body after being in a wheelchair for years and prep me up as an athlete. I do long distance running (my African country has hills in rural areas) that make it perfect for building mental willpower and endurance. Every night I train for at least 3hrs (8:30 - 11:30pm),mixing it with kicks to heal my legs, strengthen the hips and hamstrings. It has worked out successfully so far. Peace to everyone. Stay hard.
I started Muy Thai and quit after 2 months and it's becaus ei didn't have the heart. I wish I saw this video before I went to that gym and I'm appreciative that this video exists. I'll try to be consistent with this and see if I can try again after one year
I’m a beginner and i understand this is for building a strong mental. But how do i shadowbox for more than 1 hour without knowing how to box properly ? Should i just be throwing punches the way i feel is right ? i think i might develop bad habits and punch the wrong way. Please tell me what you think bout this
I like your technique for shadow boxing, seems very good because just throwing it all to full punches actually strains my body quite a bit when theres no impact to stop the momentum.. Imma do this shit as a workout at times 😎 my neck is kinda fucked rn tho so everything is baby steps untill its completely healed Thanks for this extra tool for training!
It’s all a good point but there’s something I disagree with, when shadow boxing you need a coach for that cos if you’re doing shadow boxing without the basic knowledge of how to block your head it will create a muscle memory and when your steps are wrong it will be hard to correct those muscles memory again. So at first you need a coach to teach you the foot steps, how to guard, hot to punch
I love this. Been in hand to hand combat for more than half my life. I never use headphones. I always focus on my breath & I go for that throw up feeling. Lol but I don’t get that at all anymore. That mental will power is built & bred within for sure. Takes years to get it down solid. I do Muay Thai/kickboxing now. This is where I found my passion. I’ve done boxing, kung fu, & wing Chun as well… but Muay Thai is where I’ve found my heart. Thank you for your videos. & what you talk about, you know, I know you know. After the 3rd round body is shot… but the heart is what takes you through the next 9 rounds. Stay blessed brother, all love. 🙏🏼💯🕯️🏁🤜🏼🤛🏼
This guy is a Beast And I've seen him suggest some crazy advanced routines But He is dead on with this one 🎯 Not only for beginners but for anyone at any stage 💯
Pro Tip: Something that slipped (get it?) your mind. As a beginner you NEED to practice in front of a mirror. You won't know whether you're throwing punches correctly or not. If you need, tape a vertical line to keep you honest because you're most likely using a tall mirror and will only be able to move forward and backward. Once comfortable with that (you'll know), go outside and start moving around freely. Another pro tip: Build the habit of turning from the hips, not the shoulders. Like a dancer. That's why you hear about Bruce Lee & Hi-Tech Loma learning this way, it works.
Greatest advice I have ever received is not listing to music while working out. Thank you sir for opening my eyes & I'm 100% sure it will increase my focus.
This really hit my heart my bro. Please do keep in touch and let me know how your training journey is going!!! You are the very first of my subs and I will never forget!!! Thank you!!!
In Phuket top team we run so much, some of the guys in the school run barefoot 💀. I love Boxing, Muay thai training gives me fatigue in the legs, so in that days I do Boxing. Thank you man
Just commit, get to the gym and start training. No need to increase the entrance barrier. Dont spar until you got the basics down, youll get bad habits. Everything else you will adjust along the road.
It’s interesting that Paul in the Bible witness athletes training & competing in Olympic type games, and He wrote “Do you not know that those who run in a race all run, but only one receives the prize? Run in such a way that you may win. Everyone who competes in the games exercises self-control in all things. They then do it to receive a perishable wreath, but we an imperishable. Therefore I run in such a way, as not without aim; I box in such a way, as not beating the air; but I discipline my body and make it my slave, so that, after I have preached to others, I myself will not be disqualified.” 1 Corinthians 9:24-27 NASB1995 You sir remind me of what the apostle Paul must have been seeing when He wrote the letter to the church in Corinth.
This is good advice, but for someone in their 20s, someone middle age or a senior this would be too taxing. Recovery time is essential for older people.
Hey beginners. Wanna learn how to box? Then shadow box. You don't even need a coach. What kind of Jedi mind trick bullshit is this? Jogging, thats fitness and conditioning, not 'boxing' excercise.... But it will help. Following this train of thought, beginner exercise #2 is swimming. Swimming is great for core strength (prerequisite #1 for boxing) as more importantly, it involves a compromised breathing technique, this teaches your body to improve in its ability to rapidly and thoroughly extract the oxygen from the blood. Plus, they are big deep breaths in which help to expand lung capacity.
With all due of respect to the content creator..., but this guy looks likes a "converted southpaw." Shadow boxing is good for developing a form. However, working with the bag and sparring truly tests a fighter's reach, power, stamina, and overall range, in regards to a real fight. One can look good, but when it comes to the gym...? "Get ready to get yo' mind shook, and yo' money took..." Joe Frazier. Boxing is an art, but it's the most lethal martial system in the world. It doesn't care how good you look, it will kill you if you're not prepared...
Thanks for the plan, will try it! Should I stop doing weightlifting while doing this program, what I mean will it be detrimental for progress? Many thanks
I'd like to add: go to a boxing gym before doing this. Why? Well because I have been doing kickboxing and karate for 8 fucking years combined and apparently I can't punch correctly in boxing. I was going insane. If you just shadowboxe it doesn't matter, you have to shadowboxe with the correct form. Plus a good warm up routine for your joints isn't a bad thing to learn either. A lot of people say "I just warm up by running" and then complain about having pain in elbows and shoulders because they skip mobility. So do these things of the video, but learn proper form and an efficient warm up
A threeminute boxing instruction video is genius. 3 minutes in the ring is one of the most grueling and exhausting exercises a person can undertake, especially when there's another combatant in there with you.
You do need a coach because before you shadow box you need to learn to throw proper punches before you shadow box! You can spend hours throwing punches the wrong way, wrong combinations, and wrong techniques then you would have developed bad habits that would need to be reversed and bad habits can be very hard to correct for some people! Running and skipping rope is what he should have said!
Please don’t copy a random template for your workout plan. You have to start at whatever level you’re at. Doing a total of 2+ hours of cardio a day is not sustainable for a beginner on a physical or psychological level. There’s a reason most people only become a white belt. Start with 2 rounds of shadow boxing if you aren’t an experienced Athlete. There’s science to this.
Started watching to see some basic moves but the speech was kinda intense and inspirational, what he said can be applied to all aspects of life, mental will power, deep
If you don’t have a clue how to shadowbox correctly you will secure wrong movements in your muscle memory and it ll be a lot harder to get your moves right afterwards so I have to disagree.
Not hating at all but if you guys are trying to actually box do not replicate his technique for shadow boxing or your individual techniques for punches, you will get punished in the gym and in your fights. He has no real fight experience. Any couple year amateur can point this out from miles away let alone a pro.

Good on u mate❤!I'm heading back too..boxing is fun so good way to get fit and enjoy yourself...maybe end up helping the young ones in sparring especially at 6.2(if can get fit enough
@@dwight4800 hardest thing for me has been stamina issues relating to weight and conditioning being very poor and food addictions the most important thing in this tutorial it’s teaching discipline and use of mind , if you keep doing it it’s in your sub conscious mind so you act it out without second thought I have failed over the years again and again
@@cassk9999we associate our memories and habits with our environment. I would advise moving to another location ... it doesn't have to be far but a place that you don't know where your favourite food places are... as they say out of sight out of mind. This will make it less likely these places will come to mind because you don't know where they are in the first place.
@@hebisty4163 hi thank for the tip , these days establishments selling fast food are unavoidable they are popping up in even the most remote of places so unless we move to the moon we will have to refrain and one way I’m doing it is by stay full with fibre and veg and detoxing the body using green tea and other supplements that suppress appetite another thing I’ve noticed it’s easy to over-eat on pizza and fried chicken but it’s hard to overeat on sweet potatoes tuna and brown rice so our brains and tongue is being tricked by the crap and artificial and modified foods are like crack , obesity on the rise in Europe and America faster than anywhere else on earth
Bro, while I respect what you can so, and how fit you are...boxing is not just about heart. It's actually more of a mental aspect to boxing too. Gotta box smart, not just hard. 1 hour of shadow boxing every night? That's not good for beginners at all. You cant be affective for the whole hour. Good shadow boxing can drain you after 20min depending on how hard you're going. Gotta learn good technique as you build up the stamina too
What if you aren’t throwing punches correctly? Wouldn’t it be messing with your punching muscle memory so when you do learn to punch correctly you have to re correct it
Just started my boxing journey. Been running at least 2 miles a day but this video makes me want to do it without music. My coach already has me sparring in the ring but I get too in my head about things… I think focusing on shadow boxing consistently will help me. Great content! Thank you!
