I own a lot of 22's and I have this model. It is a tack driver. For the price, I have never regretted buying it. I love my CZ, Tikka, Bergara, and a host of 10/22's, but when I want to spend a day just beating around the desert shooting ground squirrels, the Savage comes along once in a while. It takes a good beating and keeps on working.
Just picked one up and I think it is going to be a great addition to the collection! After watching my brother shoot a suppressed .22 bolt action with subsonic rounds I was speechless. It was quieter than the flick of a bic lighter!!!
I've owned a Savage Mk.2 22LR for a while. 21" heavy barrel, Boyd AT-ONE stock floated and bedded, topped with an Athlon Argos BTR 6-24 scope on a 25MOA rail. My best group with CCI Standard Velocity 40gr, was under an inch at 100yds. Very happy with the way this rifle performs.
It's funny that you showing this video on this particular rifle. I have my Savage in my closet collecting dust and was thinking to take it out to take care of a smelly skunk that's been invading my yard.
I have to agree with you, it is a viable option. You know if you got a different stock and a suppressor. And mid-range optic. I think it would do just fine and the nice thing about that rifle is you could start out very economically and always add to the fire
I've had this rifle since before covid. With it i have hit a black bird at 105 yards, repeatedly hit a 10" gong at 273 yards, and am impressed by it how well it shoots. Mags and stock are bad, but still well worth the money!
That Savage is definitely a moa rifle. I think if you had shot about 15 or 20 rounds of the SK your group would have been a lot tighter. Nice group was really nice.
I had one and put it in a Boyd’s Tacticool stock. But then went to a 10/22 with Kidd parts. Next I am getting is the Cz457 Pro Varmint and then maybe an Arken scope to get in that NRL22 base class
i think the mark ii is underrated. i recently bought the fvsr, did a trigger job and got it down to a hair over one pound. polished the bolt, and lapped the crown. with sk rifle match, eley club and eley contact it will do 0.2-0.5 all day long at 50 yards… it doesn’t have the fit and finish of my cz but it’s just as accurate after the tweaking i did!
Great review. Really like the comparisons with other guns and pros and cons. Most people just talk about it’s features and shoot it without really considering how it compares in each feature to others.
I have one and I love it. No suppressor unfortunately as I live in Commiefornia but it's a great rifle! I nail dimes with it and 50 to 100 yards no problem. Been using it for ground squirrel hunting on my buddies property and I actually just hunted with it this morning.
Thanks for the update. I am looking at this gun to buy in Switzerland. The price is tripple compared to US but it's still OK with CHF 590,- I guess. You review helped me understand it's a good gun to start shooting and getting into this sport. Keep up the good work! Thanks again.
I’ve been eye balling this rifle. I can’t decide rather to go with the 16.5 or 21 inch barrel. I like the look of the 16.5, but would never go suppressed.
I've been thinking about a Ruger American but everything I've seen and read, that $370 gun does at 50 what this one did at 110. They have this one at our local Fleet Farm - think I'm going to pick one up, Really just want it for bunny hunting.
I use a Mk2 bolt action in a Mini Rifle Competition (time and accuracy), as I had no semi-auto at the time, first time competing, and I won the event, I was using up to twice the amount of time with SK Magazine (bean tin) sub-sonic ammo, and won by a long margin. So having the rifle in such a rest system seems to take the skills out of the equation...to me.
Iraq Veteran had a shooting contest between a top 22LR and an expensive PCP air rifle. Iraq Veteran gave up shooting after the first round. The PCP rifle smoked the 22LR. They started at 50 yards. After that, they moved to 100 yards.
@@harrydick3300 He is a "pizza box" kind of shooter and has always been one. Not very good or accomplished given the amount of subscribers he has. Just watched a Colion Noir video today where he was showing his first handgun that got him into shooting. It was a Taurus...... Checks and balances is off when you have 2.5+ million subscribers and don't have the amount of experience you portray that you do. Plenty of more experienced people have far less but we have a REAL job during the week and can't shill for a living.
@@supergreatairgunreviews I have a Benjamin Marauder PCP .22 along with many other comparable .22 LR rifles. 1967 Marlin Glenfield M60 18-shot (my first rifle) 1976 Marlin Glenfield M60 18-shot 2019 Marlin M60 14-shot 2) 1990 Ruger 10/22s stainless with birch wood stocks Ruger 10/22 Deluxe Sporter Ruger 10/22 Coyote Brown Takedown Savage MkII FV-SR Camo (Bud's Exclusive) Savage A22 Target CZ-452 American Thompson Center TC/R22 That's just my .22LR rifles and PCP air rifle.
Ya I think my green mountain barrel marauder in .25 outshoots my savage at 50 yards but out past about 120 yards the 22lr just does better. It’s hard for a pellet to hang with the BC of a real bullet at longer ranges. I do believe it’s hard for any bullet to be as accurate as a pellet. Pellets are just inherently stable not to mention the standard deviation on decent air rifles is like 1 fps or less lol. My typical match 22 ammo has a standard deviation of about 6
I see that you've done videos on both the Savage FV and the FV-SR. Have you done side by side comparisons? I would tend to think the longer, heavier barrel of the FV would have a slight advantage. Your thoughts? Anyone else?
The stainless mags. seem to be made better and not as rough. My mark 2 will dot your eye, just find the ammo it likes. Mine likes Aguila super extra, under a dine at 50yds out of the box.
I got this same rifle for $189.99 Canadian at wholesale sports. Good shooter, my only complaint about it, bolt doesnt slide smoothly, if i push up slightly as i push forward it catches on something.
That bind may be the lips of the mag catching the front of the bolt.you may need to just lightly file these down slightly. Do it slowly and keepp checking.
I have this gun and I have nothing but good things to say about it the magazines are amazing for me probably could get non stamped metal magazines but the trigger is super nice bolt carrier group is exalent but I could use a better stock
I’m having a ton of trouble. Can you reply what rounds you are using…I’m using Winchester super X 40 GR at 1280 fps. My groups frustrating…(I shoot a group of .17 of 3 rounds that a dime would cover so I know it’s not my fundamentals)
#1- check your mounts. Decrease and remount with blue (242) Loctite. #2- Ring alignment may be off putting stress on your scope tube. #3- check action screw torque. Most .22LRs have a max of 40 inch pounds. Many manufacturers recommend even less. #4- play around with torque tuning your action. You'll need a torque wrench. (Harbor Freight has an acceptable 1/4" model for around $20.) #5- check crown of muzzle for nicks.
I have the same gun, I’m having nothing but fail to extract issues with numerous ammunition types cci standard is the worst ,,,,,,savage did send me new parts it did nothing it’s annoying to pull brass out of the chamber with my fingernail
I agree. I have a newer Mark II and those mags really suck. As does the dime store mag release. Other than that, things are good. I have a new Savage 64 Precision on order to see what that is like. JimE
Right, the 5 round mag that comes with is garbage. However, after market 10 round mags work well. Occasionally, using hollow points, the rim of round will catch on the lip of the chamber causing a feed jam.
You should start your own YT channel then, since you have one of the tightest groups for a .22 even better than most vudoos... 50 yards no problem 100 yards bs .
Accuracy has never been the concern for the Savages - it’s the reliability and fit-and-finish issues. They just feel like something I’d cobble together in the shed after too many pulls at the rye whisky. The receiver and bolt look like bits of old pipe cut and fitted with a hacksaw and file. The finish feels like the last few ounces out of cheap rattle can. But that’s nothing compared to the feed, extraction and ejection issues I’ve seen. I love the idea of an accurate 22 for ~$240 but feel like it’ll never be more than that regardless of the upgrades I throw at it.
This old pipe won me two centerfire matches this year so no complaints here. You cant expect the fit an finish of a Surgeon action at the price point Savage puts out. But at the end of the day they get the job done. Thanks for watching!
There’s 2 different videos( 2 separate cameras recording) when he edits he can synchronize the vids… that’s not enough to say he’s lying about the distance
Cool thing about YT is you dont have to believe anything you see on here. As I dont have to prove anything either. Believe what I say or dont thats on you. Thanks for watching!
