Savage Worlds Pathfinder Ultimate Core Box Set Unboxing and Brutally Honest Review 

Good review. I got mine with the Kickstarter (a bit cheaper that way). We played it a couple times in between campaigns, and it always was fun and memorable. A full campaign is on the horizon.

This is a very good review; it is refreshing to see the view of someone completely new approaching the system. Hope you guys give it a try, would love to see a follow up video with your thoughts after playing! Personally after trying this system, I wouldn’t want to go back to a d20 system again; among other reasons, combat resolution is much quicker and more exciting.

I really appreciate you guys. Your commentary is both entertaining and informative. What you had to say each step of this unboxing was much more valuable than “the bottom line,” decision on whether or not the product is worth buying. As for the product itself: it’s a luxury product, after a fashion. You can indeed play the game with pennies and a regular deck of cards. This set isn’t quite as swag as something like Beadle and Grimm’s stuff, but the idea is the same: better, more immersive and dedicated gaming supplies. You only NEED about a third of it, but the quality aids the experience. I’m not in the market for this. I DM for a gaming group that is 2 families who get together and most of the group is not into it enough that they would bother migrating to a new system. I love all this stuff though. I will happily listen to you two fellows talk about your experiences with this game.

I'm a fan of both Savage Worlds and Pathfinder, but upon looking at the high price for the box set (and noting that I actually did get the SWADE boxed set that had many similar features (oversized card deck, powers cards, templates for cones and blasts, bennies, etc) I decided to only order the Pathfinder for SW books separately. I'm happy I did it that way and saved $120.

Ok, this IS a tough price to swallow at once, BUT this is targeted primarily for GMs, not for players. And everyone being DM knows that it is quite expected cost of starting something new. So considering target group and what it brings to You - it is not expensive per stuff, just per chunk size. On the other hand, players can always just buy the core book and dice, not this box. Yeah, and even though I don't play pathfinder, this type of videos is main reason for following You, and You two are brilliant at doing those! PS. Comparing this to WotC products is painful...

Great review. This is more geared for the GM than the players but as you pointed out, it's everything you need. Also, Pinnacle will give you the PDF of all the books as long as you can provide proof of purchase. That's a nice bonus to have

Lookin forward to ya'lls review of the system tbh. I haven't played SWADE yet but I have done a decent amount of Cypher System, which seems to be SWADES main competitor. The additional stuff like cards for initiative and Die size for skills sounds very fun. I mostly bought SWADE for Rifts, but I am interested in PF for it.

I think the most important thing your missing is that this is a COMPLETE SYSTEM in a box. This box has the CORE RULES written right into it. Unlike other settings in savage worlds you have to buy the CORE SWADE book. CORE SWADE is built right into this box set.

Great review! 200 isn't bad as long as your group actually plays it! I have bought a few different games, spent a lot on the books and then myself or as a group we decide not to even try the game out :( So as long as you can afford it and actually use it , the time you spend playing with family/friends is priceless :D

Based on your review, I picked this up from the Pinnacle store for $150 during the Black Friday sale. It turns out that PDFs are also included in the purchase, which is a nice bonus. Definitely looking forward to playing this!

quick chase rules, I love that higher cards, which allow moving first, have disadvantages which get better as the cards get lower. I am going to use them in all swade games

The 200 dollar price is a great deal for what you get especially since the company will give you the PDFs for everything free with proof of purchase.

We've loved Savage Pathfinder so far. Before we can move into playing the campaign though, we have to finish our ETU game in SWAdE

I picked this up from Miniature Market on sale for 150, absolutely worth it

I did buy this, but as part of an ever bigger box. I paid like 500 bucks all told, because it included the companion, metal “gold” coin bennies, two adventure path boxes (with fancy handouts and npc card decks, as well as a beautiful harrow deck). I think it was worth it, personally. My group is usually up for splitting the cost of stuff, but I felt this was more of a luxury item for me. I want to have the pretty stuff in my game room even after we’re done with it. I feel the same way about my OSE box.

I really enjoy Pathfinder. It's flexible, usually genre agnostic, and it's easy to pick up. $200 is a steep entry point though, despite everything you get. I mean you get A LOT, but at the same time, so much of it is extra, extraneous, and not really needed. Still, if you can get a group buy in, I think it's worth it. I will probably at least check out the core book, the Savage World's Fantasy book is pretty basic, and this looks to have a lot more. Great review guys!

Great unboxing. I don't get the issue about the price. $200 for years of entertainment? TTRPG books are actually underpriced. All the items in one box set is great. Next I want to see your impressions from playing it.

You can find all kinds of themed playing cards to match the setting of your Savage Worlds game. Dragon cards, space cards, cyber punk playing cards etc. Just run a search with the key words. There's everything.

Great review! Also, let's be honest no one pays MSRP for anything that they can avoid it. This box that can be had for about $150 to $160. I was on the verge of buying this a few months ago and I was scouring the internet for the best deals and ultimately decided against it. The best bet is for any group to just buy the Savage worlds adventure edition core book and the fantasy companion. It won't be quite the same but honestly if you want to play Pathfinder go play Pathfinder.

Honest review, couldn't ask for more. Although I'm a Savage World junky, $200 is just too expensive for me. Savage Worlds is played fine using proxies for everything included in that Ultimate Core Box. I like to get everything in pdf and print as needed... leaves more money to buy other Savage settings or an Adventure Path or two.

Solid overview, though wouldn't it have been better to price-compare with Paizo's Pathfinder books, rather than D&D? MSRP $60 for each of the three core books.

Sooo I'm thinking about buying the books for this system. This is post BG3 and I'm just finding this video. I don't want to give WotC any more of my money (for reasons)... and the more I learn about Savage Worlds as a system, the more interested I am in running it. I'm also looking at the Savage Worlds Core book as well. So where is the follow up video to this _AFTER_ you've played it like you said you would.

This is a good review of the box contents, but I'm also really looking forward to seeing a video after you folks post the post game session review that I understood was going to be happening. How did it play? My gaming group are looking at Pathfinder Savage worlds or Fantasy Age 2e to convert our D&D campaign over from, so all information about Pathfinder Savage worlds/Fantasy appreciated.

I supported the Kickstarter, so paid less for my box. But I think you are correct that the components in the box more than merit the $200 cost. Much of that content is flossy bells and whistles, that you don't absolutely have to have to play. My group uses most of the components and decks. But if you don't want all the accessories - or already have variations of them from from SWADE or the SWADE version of Deadlands (bennies, condition tokens, etc.) - then you will be fine just picking up the rule book and the bestiary. It is a great system. I will never return to D&D or Pathfinder.

If you play with minis (and you should) don't use the status cards. Use different coloured bingo chips for the statuses (red = wounds, Blue is shaken, Yellow distracted etc) You put the chips right by the mini, wounds stack as high as 3. Put your pencil away boys, we don't track HP here.

You didn't even mention Pinnacle/Pazio are re releasing the Adventure Paths for Savage Pathfinder, The Rise of the Runelords is out now.

I do like Savage Worlds a bit more than pfv2. Really if money is an issue just get core rulebook and bestiary and regular playing cards. Use nickels for bennies and youre fine. If your group decides they like then maybe it's worth the full kit

Both Savage Worlds and Original pathfinder are jewels... 2dnEd Pathfinder... is different. My players hate it, and I have some mix feelings.

I would add, as a savage DM you also have to add shipping so that $15 is more like $20 at least.

I've played savage worlds a couple of times and love the system. I hate Pathfinder, 3.5, sorry just not my bag. But I've seen these books and love the art and Pathfinder had great adventure paths so I've been very curious. Can Not Wait to see you guys give a play review, would love to watch that gameplay also. If you get just the two books, which is what you actually need to play, it is not that expensive! Not cool to buy the most expensive version of a product and then allude that it is an expensive buy in.
