Shein is the scapegoat, actually looking into a lot of companies, not even just clothing and you'll see. A lot of companies with the nerve to charge ethical prices without the ethical practice
It’s so frustrating to have celebrities say they care about pushing beauty standards by supporting diversity in their products while entirely taking advantage of the labour of women of colour in developing countries. I’m so sick of rich women making their wealth of the backs of underprivileged women
It's a gimmick. That's why I cringe when I see certain celebs/influencers who are clearly pandering and social media just goes "yaasss mother" cuz its so obviously fake lol
What makes me sad is that Fenty could have been a luxury slow quality fashion thing and people would have still bought it. Rihanna had the branding and symbolism. Another potentially beautiful thing has turned sour
Another problem is thrift stores grossly over pricing goods so it's actually cheaper to buy fast fashion brand new. Good Will and Salvation army are so guilty!
I've seen actual Shein items at Goodwill for over twice the price than full priced on the website. Not to mention, Goodwill has gotten in lots of trouble for underpaying their high needs employees. So...
@@rachelforshee6014if people can barley buy clothes cheaper than a thrift store, I doubt they’d care. I agree 100% with what you’re saying tho, I just understand where some may feel a little frustrated abt it.
I saw a review once where the reviewer was able to pull up similar items from fashion Nova I believe for a fraction of the cost and the same quality. (I believe it was a Naomi Jon video from a good while back so the details are fuzzy) While I wholeheartedly wish we lived in a world where even the cheapest items were going for a price where the workers were getting a good wage and good conditions I know we don’t but I find it particularly despicable when a company is masquerading as better than “those other” companies while charging us more for their lies.
That's because it's meant for SWers lol...they are quite literally one time use outfits. the real fast fashion started there :x this stuff has always been available on ebay and amazon, they just curbed the market@@amberknowgood
@@mw6346 and on top of that they will make it hard to stop the subscription. I also heard that when you forget to skip the month, the money they say u can use for another purchase can only be used when u spend a specific amount of money. I don’t know if it is all the same since I watched a video on it but yeahh….no thanks😂
I don't like Rhianna she's the most over hyped overrated artist there is. Her voice, her makeup her lingerie is all mediocre and she gets treated as a goddess
Allbirds, Mothercare, Ambercrombie, Sears, TJX(tjmaxx), URBN(urban outfitters), forever21, and JCPenney got only 2 or 3. Edinburgh Woollen Mill and Ross got 0. Burberry and Everlane were at the top with 38.
I gave Savage X Fenty a chance maybe a year ago, but their subscription model left a bad taste in my mouth. I don't want to and have no need to buy new bras/lingerie every month.
Greed is destroying our society and the planet! It’s despicable and frightening that saving money so you can wear the fashion of the second takes precedence over the earth we depend on for survival and the quality of life of others, or lack there of! That’s a pretty sad statement on the ethics of society.
What’s grosser si the fact that POOR AND BROKE PEOPLE JUST TRYING TO LIVE IN THIS HORRIBLE FINANCIAL CLIMATE, Are the ones who everyone makes feel like sh1t for not buying ethically!!!
Not surprised. I hate the monthly subscription business model. 🤢 also didn’t have a great experience with the items I purchased. None of them have lasted well and customer service was trash when I tried to get info on returning and replacing an item.
SHEIN is just the company for the a ton of press about / got called out for said practices. But best believe, there are even name brands out there with TERRIBLE practices- child labor, lack of safety resulting in amputations etc.
This, people hate fast fashion but only target Shein because that’s all they know. If you guys know anything about supply chains of fast fashion then you’ll know they source from the same factories. Shein sources from wherever Alibaba/Aliexpress gets their stuff. That means that anyone, even small businesses making money through reselling aliexpress items, are just as guilty as Shein. These girls are virtue signaling about how bad Shein is while they buy from H&M and Zara. Don’t just boycott one brand and support another, make it make sense.
Honestly was never super impressed with this brand. For one i hate the monthly subscription they try to push its super scammy and is so hard to cancel. Secondly i did not care for the items i purchased from them. The designs are cute but the material is super cheap, scratchy, and uncomfortable and the sizing and cut of the bras especially are so bad. They make your boobs look super weird and unflattering. Now to find out its rated lower than shein!!! 🤯🤢 i didnt even know that was possible honestly. Rhianna should be ashamed!!!
Grew up in WV and I always laugh when people say “oh you can just shop at thrift stores.” Nice thrift stores are only a reality in big cities. The only way to ethically buy clothing is to buy things you love and will wear for years so that you can shop less.
I'm not surprised. It is fast fashion. Maybe not as fast turn over as h&m and Zara but fast fashion none the less. She has such a wide size range at pretty low prices that there has to be a ton of waste. She producing in bulk in low cost countries. Why are people shocked? Did people really think she could do no wrong? I like Rhianna but I didn't doubt for second the people that are making this stuff I paid a few dollars a day. People really need to understand the history of clothing and realize it has only been the 60-70 years that having this much clothing available was even a thing. Turning out new piece every month was unheard of and most people made and repaired the few pieces they had.
Exactly what I was thinking, too. Like, she's a billionaire, that should already say enough. Billions don't come into existence when you live ethically - you gotta pull some sus shit to get to that point. This revelation is merely a bit surprising, really, considering the other point I already brought up. It's why I dislike most celebs, ngl.
Well that's awkward.I wear fast fashion but not ulra fast fashion.I have Old Navy pieces that have lasted me years. The only reason I've stopped wearing some items is because of weight loss or gain.Worn out pieces become home wear and my 100% cotton pieces eventually become literal rags for cleaning.I suppose being plus sized but hating to order online unless it is for a different size/color of something I already tried on helped with not wearing ultra fast fashion.
@@sydney4271I'm 41 and I still have 2 Eminem shirts I bought when I was 16 yrs old 😂😂. While I haven't worn them in public in a long time, they're still perfectly fine so I wear them around the house. I legit hate shopping and haven't even bought any new clothes since 2014.
You won't find an "ethical " billionaire. No one needs that amount of money, it's insane and you do not make i by working hard and having good ethics and morals.
The only ethical thing to do with that amount of money is to use it to lift others up, which would make the billionaire lose money and not be a billionaire anymore. You right, it's damn outrageous how people can sit on that amount of money in a world with this many problems that could be solved by money. And people give them praise for donating to some charity but honestly that doesn't do much for me if they still sit on a pile of it while watching the world burn. It's ridiculous.
Yeahhhh my ex gf was Rihanna obsessed so ofc she hopped on savage x fenty almost instantaneously and was actually so disappointed they were poor quality + RIPPED in like 5 washes. It took her well over 3 months for them to stop charging her card, ider how many emails she sent. Shortly after Rihanna hits billionaire status and it all made sense from there😒
The report is in full detail I checked it out. Didn’t read everything but it seemed to be very thorough. They describe every method and factor they took into account. The highest score was 38 with Burberry and another company that I don’t know
@@gorgjesss yeah? There’s literal stuff called wig tape that you use to glue a lacefront on, so you can have widows peaks and specific hairlines. I like lacefronts personally bc they stay on better. Usually you use an oil based remover to get the glue off
@AKbaby89 that's what's said, but this is actually a common issue. Many companies claim you can cancel online, but when you try to do so it just doesn't work or they claim it's canceled just for you to be charged routinely again. This has been a common complaint from sxf and similar companies.
How did you feel about the quality of the pieces you got? I loved one piece I got but it broke in one area and the company would not be specific with me in terms of how I can replace the item. It was limited edition and I kept asking if the item would still be available if I returned it and never got a straight answer. Pissed me off. The rest of the items I got were cheap, didn’t fit well and aren’t holding up well. I was honestly so surprised the brand was so popular. It was hella disappointing 😒
@@ag8666 odd. I've been subbed to them for like 3 years on and off and every piece I have from them is amazing. Like my favorite sweats, onesie, bras, shirts, are all from SFX. I've never even had a loose string or anything, and I have quite a bit of their stuff.
The thing about savage x is that it’s ridiculously expensive. Idk if they are still doing the mandatory subscription thing, but even without it it’s so spendy. You’d think with how much it is, they could at least try to be ethical. I also know that the celebrities don’t really have a lot of power over that, but they have some so it’s definitely sus to me.
I had to call their customer service to cancel my subscription on more than one occasion. One time instead of canceling it like I asked, they had my account auto-skip for three months and they said to "call back on the third month because it would be easier." Then, on the last and FINAL time, they tried offering me credit to stay a member. I said NO and they finally canceled it. The whole thing was such a hassle.
This is why I don't buy designer brands, unless used and at a steal... It's all from the same sweatshops we know and love. But with a 10,000% mark up (minimum).
I ordered bras one time and I was so lucky I noticed that they wanted to enroll me. I did but they didn't take the money right away so I bought the bra and canceled the subscription right away and still got the deal lol but because I realized what they were trying to do I had decided back then I'd never order from there again
yeah…. unfortunately I started to stray from buying Fenty and honestly just makeup, and materials things in general after brands keep pushing out “new” repeated things that basically copies of each other.
For me, the struggle with vintage stores is that they simply dont have the clothes i like. When i go, im able to find 2 or 3 items i like but they are always just shoes, or a purse, or a jacket, none of which i need. I need pants and tops and dresses, and aaaaall the thrift store tops and pants are literally grandma clothes, the worlds most oversized grubby looking t shirt for a bait shop or something, or a size xxs crop top that is straight outta 2013. I have actually stopped buying fast fashion this year, but it has definitely been a struggle to resist because its like i cant find anything i want without it
If you have any super thrift stores in your city I would say try those. They are cheap (like goodwill type prices honestly cheaper sometimes) and they actually have cute clothes. I got my prom dress from there for $6 🤣 but it was beautiful . They also are part of a company who works with rehab centers and they hire employees from those centers so they help people with recovery and getting back on their feet. They have them in a lot of major cities
When I first went on SXF like 2 years ago, I immediately left as they didn’t have my bra size. Everyone went on about how ‘inclusive’ they are but they didn’t stock a fairly standard size..
My experience with this brand and size inclusion is that while it's great they offer plus sizes... Last time I had an account (granted, a few years ago, but they have always marketed themselves as size inclusive) is that if you have a larger cup size, they aren't that size inclusive... 🤦
i am a bit surprised by this but I feel like people are forgetting that Rihannas whole brand was about her being a "bad girl" or just plain rude most of the time. Dont get me wrong I know people can change especially when they grow up I just found it very weird how badgirlriri suddenly became the face for diversity and love to all people. When before was picking fights with each and everyone and quite frankly didnt care about anyone besides herself and her family. (dont attack me this is coming from a Rihanna Navy)
I've been sick of ppl putting Rihanna and fenty on a pedestal for a long time now bc this info has been out there for quite some time. Idk why more ppl didn't turn on them when the horrible subscription policy started getting criticism, let alone everything else that's way way worse than that. None of the billionaires are on our side. None of them.
Regarding the VIP Program: I saw that happen w/ ADOREME back in the early 2010s so when I went to the site and saw that was the pay structure I knew to be careful trying to buy there. They either over charge you on the front end or over charge you on the back end w/ the sneaky charges. Then shortly after I saw that pay structure I saw reviews saying it’s kinda shien quality. So I knew it was gonna be some bull. But her husband is a clear colorist (seen on multiple interviews saying things like dark skinned women can’t wear red lipstick) and she hasn’t said anything to denounce that behavior so she clearly lets inappropriate things go on w/o checking it if it doesn’t directly affect her.
I hated the whole situation related to the subscription to Savage X. When I found out they werr taking money from my subscription every month, I made an order with a lot of lingerie and had to CALL someone so they can cancel mt subscription. Would not recommend.
You're wearing the heck out of that top. She's said some sus things in the past, and like you I was a fan when I was younger. And just grew out of it. So I honestly wouldn't know if this a shock cus I don't keep up with her either. But not really considering how most companies are.
I used to be a huge fan of hers - and while I don’t really listen to her music anymore, I will probably go to a concert if she ever goes on tour again, for nostalgia’s sake. I don’t know how to say this. I’m not NOT surprised - she’s never been a sustainable icon, and she had a scandal related to sourcing some ingredients for Fenty Beauty products too - but I never expected it to be worse than Shein. Sigh. Side note - I made two purchases from Savage X Fenty sometime around 4-5 years ago and never had issues with accidentally/almost getting signed up for VIP - but I’m in the EU, I wonder if the purchase process is different for us because of customer protection regulations.
I watched a review quite a while back, at least a year ago, and I believe the RU-vidr was literally pulling up similar items from like fashion Nova to the Savage x Fenty ones she was trying on. (I think it was Naomi Jon but it was so long ago the details are fuzzy). The quality was so laughable and the price seemed to only be coming from the celebrity name endorsement. Like I know it’s common for dupe companies to knock off big brands, but you usually expect the big brands to have better quality and these prices were falling so short. The duality of so many of these “medium fashion” companies is they’re probably using the same practices and manufacturing processes as fast fashion companies and that extra price tag isn’t helping those actually integral to the manufacturing chain, they’re just pocketing it. I’d be okay with paying more for the same quality knowing the money was going to the worker that sewed them but we all know it’s not. I know the fact that a pair of underwear that cost’s $1 is coming at the cost of human life, but the problem is a $10 a $20 a $50 pair is more than likely paying a similar worker the same amount as the one that made the $1 pair got paid and that profit is going elsewhere, they just have a better marketing and PR department to tell us not to peak behind the curtain.
this info has been available for ages i’m so confused at why this is just coming out now, but glad nonetheless. similar to lizzos line, people have also compared savage x fenty to an MLM. also i’m OBSESSED with ur bodysuit
Me: Whos been poor my whole life, unable to find my size in most places (for an affordable price), and have a unique style... Also me: Never bought fast fashion. Excuses are excuses. Its okay to have them, just say you're prioritizing you look over the planet. Im so tired of that tired song.
Greed is in every single billionaire, regardless of race, religion, industry etc. We as people need to stop being naïve, and start standing up for ourselves!! i’m sick of it
The dedication of doing this vid when you’re in something you had to hassle into….true showmanship. You look amazing in it! ❤ I’m just thinking of when my own brain goes into GET ME OUT GET ME OUT GET ME OUT mode whenever I’ve done this 😂
I think a factor of this is also that people might be telling her "oh yeah this is completely fine". I mean her music's great, but they may not know everything when it comes to ethical business.
Hey Giulia, are you going to speak on the casetify drama? it's a pretty serious degree of theft and as i recall you have in fact accepted sponsorship from them in the past i'd actually be very interested to know how influencers who accepted sponsorships are going to move forward and just their thoughts in general
I hate this comment lol. It isn’t her fault or job to literally do or say anything on that matter tbh. Just bc she was fcking sponsored by them bro it is a JOBBBB
@@Feminazi1dc that’s a wildly irresponsible attitude tbh, people should always look at the brands they publicly affiliate their brand with. Especially in the context of a critique channel.
SXF is annoying to say. It sounds like a sci fi channel. 😂 I was going to buy from her lingerie brand years ago, but they aren’t that inclusive for very thin women. I’m a 28F. The smallest band they have is 32 band. Also when I was looking at the checkout, it said something about being subscribed and sent bras every month. The VIP program. I didn’t want to be charged for bras every month. I don’t need a new lingerie set or bra every month. I felt like it was underhanded to put it inconspicuously at the end of checkout so I was put off from shopping from the brand.
Shein is trying to get better at greenwashing. They are failing at it, of course. But in doing so, they actually published a sustainability report, I believe last year or the year before, where they actually disclose quite a bit of information on their practices. Naturally, their practices are terrible, but the fact that they decided to audit their subcontractors (probably for the first time ever) and disclose their failings already gives them a better rating in terms of transparency. And there may be things in there that were rated positively as well. Whereas SXF simply discloses nothing - and then it is assumed that whatever criteria the Remake report used are not fulfilled. It doesn't mean they have bad practices. It just means that there is nothing that could be rated because nothing is disclosed.
Riri could do so much good and make an ethical clothing company for a good price But i think she’s more into makeup and everything around that than clothing. I am so for a preorder model where people order an item and when it reaches a specific number of orders and goes to a specific order date, you order the stuff from a ethical manufacturer (in portugal for example), making it cheaper for the consumer and more sustainable since you only order what people want. I’ve bought SxF before and the quality wasn’t great. The fabric felt really cheap and like it could break really easily
Well shit. I totally ordered a workout outfit and a bra from SXF on cyber Monday. 💩 but to be fair, it’s hard to find 3x/4x things in my size that I like and that help me feel “sexy”- most clothing stores write “fatties” like me off in mumus or “cover up”. Sometimes a lady just needs to feel confident and attractive. I feel that in their underwear and workout gear.
Side note, the subscription service is super easy to cancel. I do that each time I’ve ordered from them with no repercussions or hassle. Just make sure you do it BEFORE they bill you.
My issue is their 4x is not equivalent to plus sized 4x. 4xl is supposed to be 26/28 in plus sizes, not a 22/24 like their size chart shows. Its not as inclusive as they want to portray. Lots of companies do this that sell to straight sized people and its quite frustrating because if you’re bot used to checking the size charts you order and get screwed.
Not surprising at all. Good business is saying what people want to hear, then doing what you "need" to get what you want. Gaslight the world so you don't have to live like them. Honestly, I don't even care about this, I just like to hear your thoughts. Personally, I wear the same shit(not trynna impress anybody and am cheap) or Ma/Pa shops.
