I have a very similar chain care routine except I bought myself an ultrasonic cleaner last Christmas which makes the cleaning part a bit faster (one still has to do at least two cycles with it as well, the chain is basically coated the removed grime after the first pass). I don't apply Squirt on the both sides of the chain though; I just make sure I put the chain on so that the side I did apply lube on goes as the "inside" track (easy with Shimano chains at least since they're directional).

Nice video. I use a Workshop Blower (Makita DUB185Z) to assist in the drying process before I wax my chain! Infact I also use this blower to move any excess water off my bike when washing it.

Good stuff Eric! I usually have someone wax my chain before big races but having a race chain and a training chain is a great idea! 👍👊

Most of the people looking at your video would not be producing 275 watts for any length of time. My own last 40k (Tri) would be just under 200w and that was in the top 20% overall out of 440. (for time) So what would be the savings for people who are under 200w. Curious. Thanks

No joke, I actually use to do that; but I found it would accelerate the rust process and I would end up with some rust spots on the outer links.

@@EricAbbottTri One year late... ever thought of dousing it in alcohol (or better acetone) before the drying? That would prevent rust. And yeah, it is only a few watts on the chain, some more on the bottom bracket, the derailleur and so on. Those watts add up. Good maintenance is key.
