Thanks for the tip. My blades are now cutting better than when they were new,and thats no joke . I'm glad I saved all my old "worn" blades. I won't have to buy any for a very long time! Thankyou.

Your very welcome, we buy a lot of old collections and over the years I noticed they are always filled with bunches of blades that just need a good sharpening so I figured it was a good idea to do a video. Happy cutting!

Thank you for this technique. I am new to the hobby and just bought a unit that had been sitting for 8 years. Much mud in the bottom. Got most of the oil and mud out. However, the oil (and I'm not sure what type of oil it is...the fellow passed away and the son sold it to me) has a very strong petroleum smell. He used the slab saw to cut obsidian for making arrow heads. In the CNC world the cutting fluid would get very smelly due to bacterial growth and need changing. Not sure if this is part of the smell. Is there something that is commonly done to reduce petroleum odor of the oil, or of the finished cut rock that smells from the oil? Thanks in advance!

When you start getting a thick 1/4 of buildup and the oil gets thick like ketchup its time. Blades id say every 20 to 30 slabs. You'll get a much nicer finish on your slabs keeping your blade nice and sharp

Is there something to add to mineral oil to lower viscosity? My food grade mineral oil is too thick and makes a big mess in the shop. Suggestions?

What do you eventually do with the mud? How do you get the mud out when the oil is all extracted?

Don't understand your logic that filtering with paper bags is a mess. No matter what method you use, at some point you need to separate the gravel from the oil and dispose of the gravel. Unless you just throw the plastic bucket oily gravel and all in the trash. What are you doing with your containers of oily gravel honey?

What are you dense? Just let the oil settle and pour off the top. Same way a sewage plant works.

How far up the blade is the oil supposed to go? What kind of oil? Thanks
