Yes Canada is a shithole now, the labour market is in a standstill, nobody is hiring and Trudeau has flooded the country with worthless int'l students. Canada's economy used to have two legs to stand on: oil and housing. Trudeau has amputated oil and we're struggling to stand on one leg. Everything that Canadian were soooo proud is dead: "free" healthcare, low crime, good education (replaced with woke education), and a welcoming, tolerant society. I'd prefer Colombia if I was to choose Latin America. As you've said proximity to "home" isn't even a priority anymore since Canada has been ruined so thoroughly. Many spots Europe and SE Asia are, i think, better destinations than Mexico.

Hi there, Thanks for watching and for taking the time to connect. It"s terrible in Canada right now and we honestly do not miss it. We have residency for Mexico but we actually do not live here. We took out residency with Mexico so that we could cut our ties with Canada. I don't think we will ever live here, it was simply our "Get Out Of Jail Card" from Canada. There are benefits but we are thinking more globally. Today we actually really don't live anywhere. We are very nomadic. I've been rethinking my retirement plans lately but kids and grandkids are here in Ontario and if it wasn't so expensive to fly within the country I would choose a different province . Canada may no longer be an option

Great video (again) guys. Mexico is not on my list, to much violent crime, cartels literally run Mexico, not a place I want to live. SE Asia is a much better fit for my wife and I. I realize everyone is different, I agree residency is an important issue and Mexico is an easy place to get residency, but Thailand is also very easy to get residency as well. Many want to be close to Canada and USA, because of family and travelling back and forth, Mexico of course wins on that point. However, SE Asia is great to travel around easily. My wife is from the Philippines, with aging family, so being in Thailand is a great hub to travel around SE Asia. We do not need to be close to North America.Like you, we plan to become non residents for tax purposes, keeping our Canadian citizenship of course. I understand what you are saying about "statistics" about crime in Mexico, but I still do not feel safe in Mexico, as I do in Thailand. The cost of living in Mexico is getting very close to Canada in my experience, very little savings in our experience, same with Thailand, getting more expensive but half the cost of living in Canada. We have been to Thailand 9 times, done extensive research, crunching the numbers, although Mexico is less than Canada, I agree with you, but the gap is narrowing, where as Thailand is still half the cost of Canada or less.

Yes we totally agree with you. Mexico was originally our choice to settle down. What we like about Mexico is it so close for north Americans to get the whole process started. My husband would really like to go explore Thailand. Enjoyed reading your responses and perspective. I always thought residency in Thailand was difficult $$$. We left, and still have assets in Canada, but I am beginning to wonder if that is not a great idea. Maybe we should get our money out while we still can.

@@jillpemberton1434 We have not been to Malaysia, , but we do plan to visit, as well as Indonesia (Bali), but I do worry about muslim majority countries, we love Thailand because Bangkok has a fantastic airport, and connections to all over the world, especially SE Asia, itis a great Hub to travel from and back to. Thailand is most likely going to implement a new 60 day visa free on arrival, that will be a great thing.

@@Zuzana1fan no need to take your money out of Canada from all research I have done, the idea is to become non residents for tax purposes, that's the ticket to being tax free, getting a retirement visa in Thailand is easy, everything costs money, but not that bad, maybe $700-$1000 CAD per person to let an agency take care of it for you, maybe less? You will save a heck of a lot more on taxes in Canada, well worth it to get Thailand residence, and pay no taxes in Canada or Thailand

What's going to happen during the bad times? Just look at history 100 years ago in the 1930s: the Great Depression, tons of people on the street, stock market crash, gold being confiscated, extremists rising to power in Europe. A lot of these things are already happening right now.

Panama should also be on your radar. It's been a top destination for ex-pats for years. Good economy, American dollar, top notch health care, North-American items and products readily available, abundance of fresh fruits and vegetables, ex-pat communities, everything from large cities to small mountain towns, easy to get Visa and permanent residency, 5 hour flight form Toronto and in the same time zone as EST, plus very safe.

@@jillpemberton1434 We have been going to Panama since 2018 during the Canadian winter. Last year in October we arrived, and are now permanent residents. We are living in the the Coronado/Nueva Gorgona area, often referred to as the Gold Coast or the Panamanian Riviera. We have traveled much of Panama, but decided to remain here because of the Ocean/beach, proximity to the mountains just north of us, the shops and restaurants in the area, a good sized ex-pat community with still lots of locals, and also proximity to airports and Panama City. @@jillpemberton1434 I don't think it is about "the grass is greener", at least not for my wife and I, I think it is about living a more authentic and free life, We have a beautiful townhouse in Penticton BC, beautiful views, we totally renovated it over the last 3 years, many would love to have the home we have, but we travel a lot, and leaving a 1 million home behind empty is insanity, we do not want house sitters, and renting it out while we travel is not an option thanks to the rental tenancy laws in BC being in favor of the tenants. So we plan to sell and become nomadic (plus have a lot more money in our investment portfolio), we are almost at the point now. So our grass will be much greener without a home weighing us down, we will not have to worry about our home in Canada anymore, plus stop paying taxes in Canada, for us WIN-WIN, greener pastures

Money is obviously a huge factor when considering such a huge Life changing decision. But one, well actually two, things that my Wife and I have discussed is the food and fitness. The food, not just because of freshness, but because of all the garbage food (albeit often quite enjoyable…) here in Canada. Especially when going out, but also in our grocery stores. And fitness, because when we are abroad… my Wife and I … walk. No car to fill up or any of those expenses. We take stairs (none in our Ranch-style home). We are always moving. So… better food, more motion (for mind too!) and… more money. One would have to be, at the very least… foolish not to even consider moving abroad, even just a little bit… if not for just those few things alone! Great information on today’s video. Very logically thought out. Btw., my Wife is really leaning towards Panama (I’m more Mexico or Portugal/Spain). I would appreciate any insights or impressions (yourselves or others you’ve met/talked to) about this as an option. Only, of course, as an option … for some future Q&A video. Thanks for taking the time to put together today’s video.

I as a recent retired accountant and tax professional trying to set-up a RU-vid Chanel to advise individuals and businesses in my field of expertise.
