As a point of reference I checked with a local installer who uses STEK DYNOshield (10 year warranty and 8 mil thick) and for just the front end using pre-cut templates like I installed in this video they charge $1,550. Or $1,850 to remove emblems and garnishes to wrap all edges. A whole vehicle PPF wrap is $5,500 for installing pre-cut templates, or $6,500 for installing the same pre-cut templates but with emblems, mirrors, window trim, fenders removed and PPF wrapped around those edges.
I've got 2 cars, a 2012 with a PPF and a 2017 without one. The paint on the 2012 is in significantly better shape despite having almost 3x more miles. These films really do work! Nice work doing it yourself!
In the city you live, I won’t say the name, the water has high iron levels. You will see it building up on the concrete as a red patina. I bet that’s why you saw the oxidation.
I agree that the ground probably has iron on it. Never having actually seen the iron remover at work before I wasn't sure what to look for. In hindsight I maybe should have sprayed a few on my Model S which is probably super contaminated and then I would have known what to look for. The water that I use when I wash the cars is out of a water softener inside our house for what it's worth.
Nice work done! Do you think the results would be better if you use a big roll like the pros instead of precuts? I opted for ceramic coating for the simplicity, hope no one is gonna key my car
Thanks! I only have this one experience, but not having to cut off the excess surely saved me a lot of time. I don't know if one is "better" over the other. Plus precut shows me exactly how much to stretch to get the PPF to fit it's intended space. I'm sure a professional had their pros and cons list of why one method or the other is easier. For an inexperienced person like myself I think precut is likely the best option.
