@@muskokamike127 seems they have already fixed this at Ford. I tried this with my 2013 f250sd and it shuts the system down before you can program, then the vin you manually added in that appeared right, goes back to original of the wrecking yard pcm. Not sure what year they started this but I guess its a vin lock in the module.
The car dealership business has to be the second most corrupt type of business in the world. Whats the 1st? The used car sales business. Some cars get paid for 4 or 5 times. Being as Henry Ford made it a point to manufacture autos that everyone could afford , I highly doubt he would be pleased if he could see what the auto industry has become. I was browsing new trucks just last week, $70,000 for a fucking truck.... GTFO with that bs. We best not ever bail out another auto manufacture. or bank, or airline, casino, hotel, insurance co. ....Let them fucking fail....
Man, what a great Technician you are, you should be teaching, I am 72 years old in the automotive field all my life you do a fantastic job. The problem is that what you have you cannot buy. Great knowledge.
Man I don't always comment but I want you to know I appreciate everything you put on here you are one of the best knowledgeable Ford guys I've ever seen thank you for everything you do for us much appreciated
Hats off to you, it's obvious to me that you could probably be doing something else with your time, but your one of the few who does give a crap about us that are at the mercy of others. Thanks from a subscriber, and a FORD "IDI" owner!!!
Mine will.. They just do it on the side at lunch time or when it is slow. So just get to know the guys at the counter.. As they know the mechanics. I just toss them some money and all is good in the Universe...
This is GREAT info! Makes you wonder how many vehicles were needlessly scrapped because of Ford's trickery. Automakers infuriate me with this kind of thing. THANKS for posting this one!
@@xabhax it's not that deep bro. Lolololololol wow! So dealerships are not greedy huh? Lolololololol this guy thinks dealerships aren't greedy lolololololol
I went to the junkyard today and you can see the newer junked vehicles that don't even looked crashed. We all know why people junked them. Because dealerships are so greedy. It's a shame how broken the system is. Humanity is sickening with the trash and greed.
I wouldn't be surprised when Ford engineering sees this they update the software to prevent the relearn. Pricks. Best video to date Brian, I think it's great!
I use to do this when I had a ford and a used PCM. You have to know the tool. It was designed to do this or it wouldn't happen. Most Ford service engineers don't know as much as this guy does.
Yes... wish I didn’t live so far away!!! I actually made an appointment with the intent of making the trip to his shop, but other life issues came up!!!
What in the hell is the difference between FORD and Nissan Toyota iOS own a Nissan or Toyota the computers never get corroded so tell me about it can you answer that question? Mr. Mechanic
@@FordTechMakuloco I have a 99 explorer it’s bore out when shifting to 3rd gear what’s the problem also what transmission can I use Have A 99 explorer 5.0 motor could you let me know what to do or what other transmission can I use I appreciate your time and help thanks
Great video. Could you possibly do a video on the scan tool, as well as how you would go about getting the ford information/software you show in the video. Would love to replace my own rather than buy it at the dealer. Do you think this is something a basic repair skilled individual could do?
@@macd9861 One of the other commentors mentioned the Ford Integrated Diagnostic System (IDS). I did a quick Google search and that appears to be the software used.
I've installed many of used modules and I'll keep doing it but I see it from the dealers and some repair shops point of view. Some used modules may have bugs or issues that the seller is unaware about so I install said module now the vehicle exhibits a whole different issue. It's all a gamble with used parts sometimes you're the hero to the customer sometimes you waste time. Great video Thanks for sharing.
Great work nice to see an honest person helping the little guy fight greed by providing useful, useable information to keep our vehicles running and rolling down the road and not in a dealership making the rich richer, fight the good fight brother. Definitely subscribed thanx again for your time and effort.
First time seeing this video. I used to do programming with the IDS before I retired. IDS is a fantastic tool. Just make sure the IDS and VCM software are up to date and you must have a "clean power supply" on the battery during the programming!
This is awesome! What sort of programmer or diagnostics tool do you use to run this program? What do they cost? Can it be accomplished with other diagnostic tools? Thanks for sharing your knowledge and helping folks save big money. As well as not allowing the automakers to take advantage of every day people.
Yes definately wich scan tool will be crucial to success! I know he said the ford scan tool but thats kind of vauge. Do you have the exact model scan tool
Love the Vids Brian, Eric O. And New Level Auto. It's nice to see how this great Mechanics get along for the benefit of the viewers 👍🤓 Thanks for the videos guys we appreciate your hard work. Cheers Hoffman estates iL
You're just a good dude that's all there is to it. Your video's have not just helped me with my own Fords, you have given me the courage to try things I normally would have nothing to do with. And I've been successful. So I just wanted to take a minute to say THANK YOU Brother....
I have a question about a transmission I got for my Ford F-150 2001 4.2 V6. So I went to the junk yard and found a 2003 Ford F-150 4.2 V6 so I removed the transmission and bought it. I have installed it onto my truck but the truck does not move when I switch to any gear. Are the pcm pinout different or are they the same? Any advise on what I should do would be greatly appreciated. Thank u and God Bless
No idea how to contact you other than this. 2014 Lincoln navigator L, starts fine when cold, after warming to op. temp it will not start unless i use starter fluid. ?????, changed TPS, fuel pump and checked ohms on purge evap, charcoal canister. A couple short blast of starter fluid it fires right up and runs fine until i shut it off again.
The service ppl give me dirty looks when I'd tell them I knew they could do things that they didn't know they could do. And especially that i could change things with FORSCAN on my laptop that they can't change. Great video dude.
@@rudybishop9089 Ahh.. makes more sense now.. Although, I will say that Eric the car guy gets more shit than he deserves.. His channel never started with the advanced technician in mind.. was strictly diy, helping people save money, when not many were on here doing that.. There are many, far advanced than his technical skill, but so what?? I still send ETCG vids out to friends asking me how to check for suspension noise. .his vids hold up well there.. For those who know, it's not going to be interesting, but for those who don't, it's gold.. Everyone has their place..

Great only problem is i have a 1986 Lincoln town car Signature series with a corrupt PCM that i bought one through Car Quest herwe in Ontario Canada and im trying to get someone t0 program it
Every time I hit a bump in my ford e250 the yellow ranch comes on dash and I lose exploration need to pool over turn it off then on again and it's good till the next bump hit. Any advice thank you
Ford dealerships and service writers all over America on suicide watch. lol BTW - Top bloke for saving customers a bit of money. Its disgraceful dealers refuse to do this.
Good video, great information! but ehh.. Doesn't this still require a authentic Ford IDS? (Isn't that thousands of $? if you can get one) with an active subscription to program modules? I know most secondary shops usually have the generic type scan tools so they might also just hand you back over to the dealer. At the end of the day unless you own an IDS or happen to get very fortunate and find someone with an active authentic IDS (maybe it is more popular outside where I live) it doesn't seem realistic for a DIY type job. But still a very good video, I always enjoy watching!! :)
READ THIS! Just had to put PCM in Son-in-laws 2013 F150 3.5 Eco Boost for coil driver malfunction Cyl 1+2 dead. (P2300-P2303) I used IDS with VCMii and 115.01. (China full chip) Got a used PCM but was unable to write a new VIN to it. PCM was exact part numbers DL3A-12650-EE that was the latest update. Could not write VIN to it using PMI. would shut off power to PCM when I tried to use it. HOW TO: Install PCM from Junk yard with the correct P/N and program Pats keys. It will show a code of P160a Module ID miss match. It will start and run but will have the wrong VIN. Ok unless you have emissions test to get through. To write the correct VIN to the PCM, load a session in IDS with the correct VIN. Go to Powertrain, Service function, Relearn Vehicle Data. This will write PCM VIN and other data from the BCM to the PCM. BOOM! correct VIN in a Junk yard PCM. I just did it. No promises on different IDS versions or Model years/vehicles but it worked for me.
not surprised with what you mentioned about the different issues with Ford , I've owned 4 Ford vehicles, never again, I'm tired of problems with all of them. poorly engineered and difficult to work on 😕
A bad PCM sounds hard to diagnose, have heard stories of people trying "everything" then replaced the PCM and the problem was solved. I wonder what percentage of vehicles ever need a new PCM.
Is'nt this how car thieves steal cars? They pop hood have an existing PCM and keys 🔑 and or FOB and quick swap PCM and start car with old keys from other vehicle ?
I also want to thank u in advance. You are very kind an knowledgeable.. will u please tell me what computer is needed to do this.. will any code reader do it or 150 harbor freight scan tool
Thank you for choosing to be an honest mechanic. A question to Ford. Would it have hurt your bottom line that much to continue to place the PCM inside the cab?
I need a new pcm I guess . Replaced batt new and tested alt twice and it’s good butt all kinds of codes showing so I’m thinking pcm is my next move. Your a genius . Wish I hadn’t spent so much before getting to this point.
What kind of program or software you use on your computer/laptop to do this following steps. I'm trying to program my Ecu/Pcm/Vin because I did a transmission swap on my Honda Civic 1997 Dx Coupe. Please help.
Dealers and car manufacturers are scum. Pure and simple. The common persons mindset should be: The corporations are GOING to try and steal cheat and lie every step of the way, how can I prepare and protect myself? How can I learn to steal cheat and lie when dealing with corporations? The Answer = Knowledge. And YES, corporations WILL try to snuff out sharing of Knowledge and Information. Stand up people, and FIGHT. Thank you Makuloco for fighting the good fight. Stay gold.
What scan tool and program you use for this process, as I’m in Australia and I mainly drive fords , and just recently had pcm fail on a fg 5speed falcon Ute . And I was told it was a transmission problem, but I bought a scan tool and it told me it the pcm stuck between park and neutral, any thoughts about this.
So awesome to see you sharing this honest data with us on the web just trying to keep our older Ford Cars and Trucks going without going completely bankrupt at the dealership.
You can program junkyard computers without the factory scan tool. You do have to buy a sub on their website. Use your lab top and something like a snap on passthru pro. I did notice u don’t get as many options from the factory stuff but u can change the vin, reprogram, pats, and parameter resets. I just did a Mazda the other day and the program looks identical to the fords but u have to use theirs.
@@bigfootemobileauto9734 should do, all of my scan tools are just recognised by subscription and pass through I'd. It should alert you when setting up for sub. Most have a single or day sub so easy and cheap to try access
Can you tell me if I buy a subscription to IDS.... will it provide access to the PATS in order to do a parameter reset? I honestly dont mind the cost of a REAL VCMII/laptop pkg and the IDS subscription. Thank you for your time and your videos have helps many many people. Definitely a subscriber!
What i love about things such as this is the human ingenuity involved. About 10 years ago I bought a Subaru WRX and rebuilt it. Little did I know at the time the Subaru community that was present online. There were guys/girls that literally hacked their ECUs and basically rewrote their own code. This blew me away. Ever since then I have been fascinated with both cars & computers and more to the point getting around issues that involve ANY Dealership. Great video my friend👊
I would open the pcm up if possible and carefully look for broken solder connections and resolder as many connections as possible. It might take some time but might be worth it. I've has the electronic temp control circuitry and the lcm go bad in this way. Nothing wrong but bad solder. You can't always see the broken solder connections but you often can. Today's solder is really bad.
Always treat the customers how you want to be treated. That's how I take care of my customers too. You're a good guy and I really like your channel. Very informative in Fords and it helps me and my techs alot. Thanks
I go to your site for every repair I do to my F150 2006. 5.4l 4wd. I follow every step you teach right to thr tee, and there is never a issue. Your God sent . Can't aford a mechanic. Wife had a stroke and bills kill. So again Thank You for your help
Actually, this was fun to watch. I love hacking life's hacks. You DID help me save money. Watching you do all that on the computer, hacking into the junkyard computer looked fun. I can't wait to do this in my own driveway. (I'll be carrying a "9" down the front of my pants just in case someone from Ford walks by to tell me it can't be done, then repeats, "I said, it can't be done.") Nothing about this was boring.
@@eastwood111 If Ford dealers insist it can't be done and they are pretty much the only ones with that software, isn't that the point? Secondary shops with the software are rare. Unless you live in Chicago.
The ford dealer won't even put in a junkyard bcm they said they can't program it since its already got asbuilt installed and firmware they said it have to be new
I got by today on a PCM swap in my 02 ford ranger got the PCM from same model truck. Be sure to get the keys and key switch with the PCM. For me it was just swap key switch out then swap PCM . On start up it tried once and it shut down so then I turned the key on and off and removed it 3 times and was good to go driving down the road.
There will be so many electrical failures in 30 years, nobody is going to want to have anything to do with OBD-II vehicles. This is a great marketing opportunity for someone who wants to start building aftermarket wiring harnesses, modules, & computers - if anyone wants to keep this rolling Tupperware alive in even 20 years, they're going to need this.
thefordmaniac I believe panther platforms will. Steel frames, somewhat metal body’s with healthy v8s so I feel like the panther platforms can survive for future gens but very few others probably unfortunately. I’m quite bias though as I literally think the panthers are some of the best cars ever made in modern car times lol.
Remarkable video, thanks for sharing this with us. Your hardware must have cost you thousands of dollars not to mention your $900 per year software updates that are required for continued use. Individual users can not afford to have these capabilities for their own personal vehicles. Thanks again for all your informative videos.
