Dr. Louis Daniel is the Senior Marine Scientist at North Carolina Wildlife Federation. Louis received a bachelor’s degree from Wake Forest University, with a concentration in marine science, a master’s degree from the College of Charleston studying the early life history of red drum and spotted sea trout, and a Ph.D. from William and Mary in fisheries oceanography. Louis went to work as a fisheries biologist for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service in 1994, and then moved to the N.C. Division of Marine Fisheries. He was promoted to assistant to the director of the N.C. Marine Fisheries Commission to represent North Carolina on the South Atlantic Fishery Management Council in 1997 and served as vice chair and chair of the Council from 2003-2006. In 2007, Daniel was named NCDMF director, which he held through 2016. and in 2015 he began teaching a class on marine fisheries management and policy at N.C. State University that he continues today.
