I'm so glad it was helpful! Also, I've learnt that it doesn't matter about your timeline settings, such as resolution and frame rate, you can drop any clips into the same timeline and trim them no problem! You can also set in and out points in clips and trim them straight from your media pool, there are plenty of options for trimming!

Very cool video and very timely. Thank you for this. (If you are interested, the very soft background music had me searching for where it was coming from. I wasn't sure if I left music on somewhere in my house. But I found the source. My brain gets distracted easily by "stray audio.")

Hey, thanks so much, I'm glad you found it helpful! Also, all the music in my videos is licensed through Artlist, so I pick all the songs I edit to and I put the details in the description, but thanks anyway for checking. Much appreciated!

Thank you for the helpful video. If you match audio that was recorded externally and then trim does it still save as BRAW?
@Renclif
@Renclif 13 дней назад
Hey, glad to help! I've never tried swapping the audio but I doubt it would work because Davinci is really only trimming the existing BRAW file. But it's quite easy to drop in another audio track in your Edit page timeline and then sync it with your video, it's very fast to do so I'd suggest doing it that way. Thanks
@zweiche
@zweiche Год назад
hey , are we sure about the part of timeline settings should match the clip settings ? bcs i see no point on doing that and if thats the case we have to use different timelines for different fps clips
@Renclif
@Renclif Год назад
Hey, good question, I don't think the frame rate of the clip matters so no need to change timeline frame rate for each different clip. I think the clip resolution matters but I've never actually tried, for instance, dropping a 6K clip into a 4K timeline and seeing if it still exports 6K. Hope that helps!

Great Video, thanks! Sometimes when I edit one file into say 5 segments it will not save clips separately but saves as one file. This is with the option to save clips as one file unchecked. Other times it will save 7 clip segments as 5 clips. Have you had this issue?
@Renclif
@Renclif 11 месяцев назад
Hi and thankyou! I don't tend to edit one clip into segments using this method, I much prefer to just trim the beginning and the end of all of original clips and then use the media management to export the trimmed clips. I do this just to save file space and make editing faster. Sorry I've never actually tried trimming clips into multiple segments only because it's not really useful for me personally. So no idea about the issue your having unfortunately. Hope you figure it out!

@@Renclif Thanks very much for the reply! I was mostly doing it to edit "dead air" out of clips I will use in the future. Only keeping the good bits saves space as you say. The reason for sectioning the clips was because there will be different things in each video and I like to save them out into categories so I can grab what I need on any given day. Maybe it's a bug, who knows. But thanks again!

Hey great video and many thanks! The only problem I have is that when I cut a video and start it via Media Management, for example, a video that I have shortened to 01:30 minutes plays for almost 01:40 minutes after downloading. So where do these 10 extra seconds come from? In the timeline, my video lasts 01:30 minutes. I don't understand it somehow hope you can help me..
@Renclif
@Renclif 5 месяцев назад
Hey, thanks heaps! So after trimming your clip in your Edit page timeline, when you go to media Management you want to select Clips/Copy, select Timeline clips and check the button that says "use media and trim keeping" and set to 0 frame handles. And you will know if it's trimming properly as the file size will change to a smaller size down the bottom where it says new file size. Hope that helps!
@NiohxPluto
@NiohxPluto 5 месяцев назад
@@Renclif thanks for your answer! When I do that, there is actually a much smaller amount of data at the bottom. Nevertheless, it somehow always saves the complete video ?
@Renclif
@Renclif 5 месяцев назад
@@NiohxPluto That's strange, if the file size has changed then it's definitely trimming it and copying the file. And you're using Copy not Transcode? You can also try just trimming your clips in your media pool by setting In and Out points and then select the clips in the Media Pool and go to Media Management/Copy, selected Media Pool clips. That's another way to do it so you don't have to trim on your timeline.

Thank you. New to editing /DR. Created a new Project, imported 8 camera into seperate bins. Then dropped into 8 timelines. Cut the footage. Would now like to save that media into a new project that can be exported for professional editing on another PC. I need the new project to contain the edited media / clips. Followed your video and where it shows file size at bottom of media mgr. mine shows nothing. If I select "Entire Project" it changes from Current 435GB to New 246GB. Your video said to select clips, not Project but you were also working on 1 timeline. Thoughts?
@Renclif
@Renclif Год назад
HI, there's a number of ways you can trim clips. If you're wanting to Trim the entire project make sure you're in the "Copy" tab and not transcode, also make sure you select "Use media and keep trimming" otherwise it wont trim your media files. And check the box "Relink" to new media files as well so you don't have to relink your files when you open the new project. Also, you can you can Trim selected Clips in either your timeline or media pool using the same method. I personally find trimming my media files before I begin a project an easier workflow. Hope that helps!

@@Renclif Thank you very much for taking the time to reply. I obviously have a preference setting wrong in one of the 1000 other DR settings. Because I followed your video and reply to the letter. If I select "Used media and trim keeping". "Relink" is grayed out. If I select "used media" then I have the option to select "relink to new files" No combination of selections yet has provided size info. at the bottom. Until I select "Entire Project" at top and then 435 GB pops right up for size. I will cut 1 timeline at a time going forward. Was trying to test diff. methods. I'm just cutting the RAW footage down to send project off for a professional to finish. Obviously that's not me any time soon if I cannot get your step by step instructions to work. Thanks for trying, back to RU-vid University.
@Renclif
@Renclif Год назад
Not sure sorry, did your set in and out points on all the media files your trimming? Also, try Command A and select all your media files in the project and then go to Media Management. Otherwise if not working I'd trim all the RAW files and then re-import the trimmed files and then Save the Project file to send to your client.

@@Renclif Hi, I created a new "project library" , Then created new project. Imported 1 clip into project. Drag to track 1 and cut. A new timeline is created in MASTER Media Pool. (I didn't create it. DR does this automatically.) I cut the clip and follow your instruction. Nothing works if I select Clips top right in Media Mgr. If I select Timeline, then check the box for the timeline 1 or 2 that I want to save. Then file size shows on bottom. I"m using Speed Editor to set cut IN / OUT points. Clips provides no options. Only Entire Project or Timelines. I have tried many combinations and nothing works if I select clips. Thank you

How can I replace certain part of a video with a static image? Lets I want to replace between minute 1 56 and 3 57 with a static image?
@Renclif
@Renclif Год назад
Hey, if you want to convert a frame of a video into a static image, position the play head at the frame, right click on video clip and choose change speed/freeze frame. Otherwise you can also import any image such as a jpeg into your timeline. Hope that helps! ✌️
@Johsua_v

what if your clips are varying in resolution and frame rates? is there a way to not worry about timeline and just trim and copy?
@Renclif
@Renclif Год назад
Yes, you can trim and copy "Selected media pool clips" so have all your clips in the one Bin, trim them all, select them all and then go to Media Management and check "Selected media pool clips" instead of timeline. I just find it quicker to trim all my clips on the timeline in one go! But if you have varying video formats then use the media pool option!
@Johsua_v
@Johsua_v Год назад
@@Renclif i think i roger. so i can trim in media pool without using timeline then use “selected media pool clips”. and that solves not having to set up timeline
@Renclif
@Renclif Год назад
@@Johsua_v Yes that's correct! Just trim each clip using in and out points (I and O) shortcuts in your monitor.
