Thank you for the helpful video. If you match audio that was recorded externally and then trim does it still save as BRAW?
@Renclif
@Renclif 8 дней назад
Hey, glad to help! I've never tried swapping the audio but I doubt it would work because Davinci is really only trimming the existing BRAW file. But it's quite easy to drop in another audio track in your Edit page timeline and then sync it with your video, it's very fast to do so I'd suggest doing it that way. Thanks

Unfortuneately, when I do this every workspace playback shows different aspect ratio, and size. Transforms are per workspace just in the transform effect inside grading node. I've tried everything and I have all different zooms and sizes of plapback or workspaces all look different.
@Renclif
@Renclif 18 дней назад
Hey, not sure what's going on but try to do your transform of Zoom X axis in the Edit Page Inspector tab rather than in the Color Page as a transform node. I tend to do all my transforming/cropping in the Edit page because it gives you more control and you can easily keyframe zooms and other effects. If your playing back your footage and the zooms are different you may also have some keyframes in there somewhere. And colour page effects can sometimes not render correctly causing things to look weird. Hope that helps!

Hey, thanks so much! You're a very talented artist, thanks for creating this beautiful song! I highly recommend Contax Zeiss MMJ lenses, they have such great character and are an excellent investment if you find good ones in mint condition. I buy mine from Ebay Japan and I convert them to Canon EF using the Simmodlens adapters, the K&F Concept adapters are also quite good. Another favourite of mine is the Contax Zeiss 28mm F2.8 MMJ, that lens is a gem! I'm looking forward to hearing more of your music in the future!

Hello, thanks for the video. Can you recommend me a camera for filming nature?
@Renclif
@Renclif 2 месяца назад
Hey thanks heaps! If you're just starting out I highly recommend the Sigma FP (I own this camera) which is a full-frame mirrorless camera, it's the smallest full-frame mirrorless so it's easy to travel with. It has excellent dynamic range and colour science and it shoots 4k 10 Bit Cinema DNG to external SSD drives, which will give you best quality footage for editing in Davinci Resolve. Also, the in-camera .MOV video codecs are also excellent. You can pick one up for around $1200 second hand. Also, depending on what you're shooting, a good wide angle lens is important if you're wanting to capture landscapes, forest, mountains etc. I recommend the Samyang 14mm f2.8 Full-frame lens for L mount for the FP. Or alternatively, if you're looking for a zoom lens, any of the Sigma zoom lenses, like the 28-70 f2.8 or 16-28 f2.8, depending on what focal range you're looking for. The Bmpcc 6K or full-frame 6K camera is also excellent, but it's much larger and harder to travel with and you have to rig it up with a v-mount battery system to get decent battery life. Hope that helps!

This is extremely helpful! Thank you!! When editing a compilation of videos, how long do you make each clip?
@Renclif
@Renclif 3 месяца назад
Hi, thanks so much! Good question, it really depends on the clip and how it fits with the music, I firstly trim the beginning and end of my clips, I then drop them into my timeline. Once i have my collection of footage, I then pick a song which fits with the story/theme and mood of the short film I'm creating. I then rearrange my clips on the timeline and proceed to trim my clips to fit with the beat of the song. As a general rule, the opening and finishing clips are longer because they will open and end the story and also I add a fade in and fade out for these clips. A good amount of time for most clips is a 2-3 seconds for still shots and 3-5 seconds or sometimes longer for dolly slide, pan or glide shots which draw you into the scene or focus on a specific subject, the shortest clips might be 1-2 seconds. But again it really depends on the edit, the speed and timing of the music and how you're telling the story, it really varies.

Hi, yes when in Pro Mode (Manual Mode) you just tap on the top left corner part of the screen where it says Pro and it allows you to change Exposure and White Balance. This is the case with ISO and shutter speed which you can adjust manually (change to M), I try to set my ISO anywhere between 100 and 200 for the best quality and shutter speed to 1/120 or 1/100 when shooting in 4K 60 or 4K 50.

Hey great video and many thanks! The only problem I have is that when I cut a video and start it via Media Management, for example, a video that I have shortened to 01:30 minutes plays for almost 01:40 minutes after downloading. So where do these 10 extra seconds come from? In the timeline, my video lasts 01:30 minutes. I don't understand it somehow hope you can help me..
@Renclif
@Renclif 5 месяцев назад
Hey, thanks heaps! So after trimming your clip in your Edit page timeline, when you go to media Management you want to select Clips/Copy, select Timeline clips and check the button that says "use media and trim keeping" and set to 0 frame handles. And you will know if it's trimming properly as the file size will change to a smaller size down the bottom where it says new file size. Hope that helps!
@NiohxPluto
@NiohxPluto 5 месяцев назад
@@Renclif thanks for your answer! When I do that, there is actually a much smaller amount of data at the bottom. Nevertheless, it somehow always saves the complete video ?
@Renclif
@Renclif 5 месяцев назад
@@NiohxPluto That's strange, if the file size has changed then it's definitely trimming it and copying the file. And you're using Copy not Transcode? You can also try just trimming your clips in your media pool by setting In and Out points and then select the clips in the Media Pool and go to Media Management/Copy, selected Media Pool clips. That's another way to do it so you don't have to trim on your timeline.

@Renclif
@Renclif 5 месяцев назад
Hey thanks so much! I was just using ND filters, either an ND8 or ND 16. To achieve the look it's more about the exposure of the scene, I deliberately under exposed to capture all the detail in the sky and make the scene look darker and more dramatic. You have to use manual mode and under-expose by about -1 or more EV, I also shoot everything in D-Cinelike and colour grade all my shots which helps create the dark and moody look I'm going for.

@Renclif

There's nothing wrong, this is the correct way to de-squeeze anamorphic footage manually and achieve the 2.39:1 aspect ratio or whichever ratio you prefer, so it's ideal for anamorphic lenses which don't have a constant squeeze. Otherwise you can use the other method where you change your Clip Attributes, Pixel aspect ratio to one of Davinci resolves anamorphic presets.

Hi, I use the Simmod Lens Contax Zeiss zoom to EF mount conversion adapters, they have ones specifically for Contax Zeiss lenses. These are the best adapters you can get, I recommend the brass version as they wear out less. Just make sure you're careful when removing the rear lens mount screws on your lens, use a soft metal screwdriver so you dont strip the screws and always heat up the screws first. They have instructions on how to do this on their website. Let me know if you have any questions.

for years I have been hearing that your lease has a lot to do with the story you tell because they can have character, I never really paid attention to that because I was always excited about cameras, when I tested an old canon fd 24mm 2.8 I was blown away, how the look and character that lens produced, since than I have been looking and testing vintage glass and it hard for me to go back to modern now I know it not just the camera can give you that film look it the glass, no wonder some lenses cost 20 to 40 thousands dollars in the cinema world
@Renclif
@Renclif 7 месяцев назад
Yeah totally, so great to hear! Vintage lenses open up a whole new world of possibilities with creating looks in-camera! Cinematographers are obsessed with lens choice because that's what defines the overall look, mood and feel of the film they're creating. Your films will stand out if you use vintage glass because they will have a unique character to them, especially if you find that rare gem of a vintage lens that very few people shoot with or even know about. Contax Zeiss are some of my favourites, I also love Leica R, Takumar, Olympus Zuiko and old FD lenses. Enjoy your filmmaking and thanks for dropping by!

Nice work 😊 how do you think of focus in this case with the glide cam if you are moving?
@Renclif
@Renclif 9 месяцев назад
Hey, thanks heaps! With focus it's quite easy if I'm shooting a wide-angle landscape shot, in the case for most of these shots I was shooting with a 18mm lens which is roughly a 27mm (full frame equivalent on the Bmpcc 6K) I just focus on a distant object. Using focus peaking I can see if everything within my field of view is in focus. So shooting at around F8-F11 then everything will be in focus as I'm gliding. When shooting a closer object like a tree and circling around it, I just do the same thing and focus on the subject, also when tracking a person and walking behind them again I use the same technique. It takes a little practice I've been using this technique for many years and it works well, I shoot only manual cine lenses so I never use autofocus. Hope that helps!

thanks, iFigured that's what I wanted to confirm if you are playing with high F stop or if you have a focus puller/DJI autofocus system@@Renclif
@Renclif
@Renclif 9 месяцев назад
Hey no worries, yeah also with manual focus I do shoot shallow at F2.8 or lower but it takes some practice to keep your subject in focus, I tend to try and keep in step with the person I'm following and focus peaking helps a lot with that. But if you want to use a remote focus system you would need a focus puller person as you need both hands with a glidecam to control it smoothly. Unlike an electronic gimbal where you can just hold it with one hand and control focus with the other. Even though glidecam has this disadvantage, I still prefer it because I prefer the more natural, organic motion it gives.@@ioannisandriotis7813
