CLIP DESCRIPTION:
Sara (Julia Stiles) tells Derek (Sean Patrick Thomas) that she wants them to take a break with their relationship.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
In this romantic drama, two teenagers in love struggle to look past their differences. After the unexpected death of her mother, Sarah Johnson (Julia Stiles) moves to Chicago to live with her father. Knowing no one at her new school and not at home in a gritty, inner-city high school, Sarah has trouble adjusting, but she soon becomes friends with Derek (Sean Patrick Thomas), who has talent and street smarts but a checkered past. Sarah was an avid student of ballet before her mother's death sidelined her studies, while Derek has some serious hip-hop moves, and their mutual love of dance leads their friendship into something deeper. However, since Sarah is white and Derek is black, they have more to contend with than the average high school couple; Sarah gets static from Nikki (Bianca Lawson), Derek's former girlfriend, while Derek has to deal with his friend Malakai (Fredro Starr), who is still deep in the thug life Derek is trying to avoid. Save the Last Dance was directed by Thomas Carter, who previously examined the sociopolitical side of dancing in Swing Kids.

My late father told me something about 15 years ago I will never forget. He said, "in the end, you're a man. If you love a woman, it doesn't matter if she's black or white, skinny or fat, short or tall, smart or stupid, there will be problems. If you're a man and she's a woman, there will always be problems. Just make sure the problems are of your own CHOOSING." 15 years later, I'm the father about to give that same advice to my son. And for all you youngins...remember that. Make sure the problems you face are the ones YOU CHOOSE...not those someone chooses for you. If you love someone, love them...no b/s. Because you will never be 'better off' by compromising something as inconsequential as race.

Don't worry too much on that! We all go through times like that sometime or other, the first 5 years of my relationship same situation his family hated me and first 2 years mine hated him wasn't till we fell on hard times my family had no choice but to get to know him or turn me away, as we had to stay with them for a time, We don't anymore but in that time they slowly got to know him and decided they liked him after all, but it took another 3 years for his side to come around point is we never gave up and in the end we persevered, I wont lie and say it was easy we argued as every couple does had our ups and downs, but you must never forget what your fighting for and always remember why you love the person in your heart and don't let anyone tell you how to feel or why they think you should or shouldn't be together that's up to you and only you can decide whether your strong enough or if it's even worth it to fight for your relationship, whether its between each other or against others and I can promise you its a complicated road even at the best of times and the hard times are always there its just up to you if your going to keep going and work together to move past them! This reminds me of my aunt and uncle. My uncle is Mexican and my aunt is black. My grandfather was upset with my uncle. He didn’t like the idea of his son dating my aunt. They have been together thick and thin together from high school to college and to adulthood to being parents. I have three beautiful cousins two boys and one girl. Through out the years, my grandfather finally gave up and accept their relationship. Now he loves their kids and spoil them whenever he gets the chance. Now their oldest son is in love with the girl of his dream and they are happy for him.

My sister married a guy that’s half black and half Hispanic. Lucky, because of where we lived, they didn’t get attitude about their relationship. They did have other problems, like infertility issues, and trying to find a place to stay/work, but were able to have family/friends support them. He’s a great guy and they were able to have their first baby together 😁 (it took them 5 years)

the reason she broke up with him is because after sara & nikki fought nikki was saying all that bullshit about white girls like sarah creeping stealing black men from black women & when sara told chenille what nikki said Chenille tells Sara that she didn't approve of the fight between nikki & sara but can understand what nikki was saying since Sara, a white girl, is seen as stealing one of the few half-decent black men in the school. chenille & nikki got in sara's ear that cause sara to break up with Derek

At 16 years old i fell in love with a black boy and i am white you know ( Irish/native American ) He loved me so much and i truly loved him ( don't say we were young and all that cause it was true love) He knew what I liked and what i really wanted ( Instead of buying me things he made me gifts which warmed my soul) he also played guitar and too me it was the most beautiful thing in the world ( his emotion and soul into words) We both had cancer ( Satans evil ) I had Blood cancer and he had brain cancer. Everyday i find ways too hate myself because I am alive and he isn't ( but i truly know its not my fault he is dead and he is truly alive inside me) i Wanted to make love too him but he said No ( I didn't understand at first but he explained to me why - well part of it ) He wanted me to wait until I was married and too fall in love and have a husband --- that is what he said and I really didn't think I could fall in love with anyone like him ( that's impossible it seems) But I am proud to be a virgin because the man I loved wants me to be pure in GOD word's say so ( I just miss Jeremy so much everyday i wake up to see him smiling but he isn't there gosh I am crying now )

I too fell in love at 15 and he was 19. When i was in his arms i felt safe. He died in an accident 2 years later. I cried for 3 days. I miss him so much.up to this day i still miss him. I can remember him whispering in my ear I LOVE YOU.

Even though Sarah and Chenille are friends it would've been so much easier here if Sarah would've just told Derek the truth about what Chenille had said to her about what Nikki said to Sarah even though it's play off of a lot of he said / She Said bullshit at least Derek will have the satisfaction of knowing that it was Chenille that told Sarah that stuff Nikki said and Sarah wasn't just coming up with some random shit then at least Derek can confront Chenille about what she said to Sarah without a third party being involved

She Should Care about what those closest to Him feel about Her. It matters,...to any sensitive caring woman. they do not live in an island society matters!! Family and Friends Matter. She does not want Him to Have to Choose between those who have been loving him for years before she came on the scene and her. it shows humility and respectful caring for the other.
