That pump seal looks just like the seals used on swimming pool pumps. They use two spring loaded ceramic disks. They work great but you never want to run the pump dry. The friction of the two ceramic disks rubbing without coolant will cook the seals.

that sucks. this sensor also failed on my 1993 legacy (which is my daily) but I saw the smoke coming out of the hot exhaust manifold soaked in oil and stopped the car before it could blow up. I not only replaced the sensor but also installed one of those old sensors (like in carburated cars) and plugged it to the other fan, so now I have two completely independent system that I hope will never fail. thanks and hope you'll get better soon

bmw often uses plastic water pump impeller and they go bad pretty frequently too which ends up causing all sorts of damage lol. Its a way they can make alot of money they recommend a complete cooling system overhaul after some time because alot of parts are plastic and basically deteriorate even with normal use

@Bbernhardsr
@Bbernhardsr 8 лет назад
+briansmobile1 That is true but I just thought about it and realized that it actually helps when big companies make it "cheaper, faster, better" because it gives the "small guy" an oppertunity to profit by coming up with an aluminum alternative like the one you got off flea bay.

@redrider533
@redrider533 Год назад
Not gonna read all the comments but did just watch the video and saw this is a six year old video So a couple things. First off I don’t believe that the engine overheated because of the sensor. 700 and 800 motors Are notorious for having the oil pressure regulator valve get stuck and create a low oil pressure condition which in turn overheats the motor and starts wiping components out. In terms of the cylinder you didn’t need to buy a brand new cylinder. Could’ve sent that cylinder out to 1 of 3 places to be repaired and replated and it would’ve actually been better than a brand new Polaris cylinder. And then in terms of the gaskets a complete engine gasket kit would have had about the items you spoke of for your valves, thin small metal inserts and the valve stem seals. I would’ve went with aftermarket valves as well. There’s definitely nothing special about Polaris OEM parts I am curious as to whether or not the machine got put back together and then the crank went out.

we had a temp sensor go bad on our arctic cat, caught it before it damaged motor, temp sensor $150.00... so we just wired the fan to the ignition, so if the motor is running, the fan is running. cost to repair about $0.50 for heat shrink, that was at least 3 years ago, never had any further trouble, also never replaced the temp sensor.
@kaboom362
@kaboom362 6 лет назад
Wayne Hartneck when the engine gets up to operating temperature it is designed so that it burns contaminants out of the oil for example moisture. Which is common in an ATV engine. If you bypass the ability to reach operating temperature by constantly cooling the coolant then you run the risk of shortening the life expectancy of your engine oil. I strongly recommend either changing the engine oil more frequently than advised or reinstate the original control over the cooling system

Brian great vid thanks for the info i have a question if you dont mind me asking i have 2012 rzr 800 and it started consuming oil real bad and after watching your vids i see theres no valve guide seals on the exhaust side it makes no sense as to why they didnt use one from the factory when you rebuilt yours did you use seals on the exhaust side as well ? . as far as the oil burning before i tear it down im going to see if it has some kind of crank case ventilation issue first then run a leak down check to try n pin point the problem but i have a feeling its more than likely oil rings . let me know if you have any other ideas thank you Bill

your water pump failed first. then it popped your temp sensor. I had the same thing happen to my scrambler 500 years ago. btw water pump seal is a glass seal and the oils from your skin touching it can make it fail so clean it before installing it.
@kaboom362
@kaboom362 6 лет назад
Andy Fromm I'm thinking something similar as well. The impellers usually fail when they are run dry. I wanted to ask if there was Bluing of the components indicating overheating. Also indicating lack of coolant flow. Which would be as a result of low-flow due to a worn-out impeller. Possibly run with low coolant

@RingTuned
@RingTuned 7 лет назад
what confuses me here is how did the thermistor fail within an operating range it should have gone way outside of acceptable parameters for the ECU which Polaris has programmed to shut down the engine when it is outside of operating limits and also illuminate the mil light
@kaboom362
@kaboom362 6 лет назад
Logan Ring you nailed it. Chances are this thing ran dry and cooked the impeller. In turn it cooked the thermistor. Sounds like the initial overheat was possibly neglected by the occasional top up.

+ICU2 This is only the half of it. Getting parts out of them is like pulling teeth. It's like living in India. They have no desire to hustle getting your order out the door. They may take as many as five to seven days to ship something. That's just getting it to UPS. From there its up to what you paid in shipping. You'll get the email that it has shipped after you get the first part if you paid 2nd day air. Your tracking order will say it's all been delivered when things are missing (freaked me out) and then things will trickle in over the next several days. It's insane.

briansmobile1 if you're ordering from a dealer, the dealer has to get his parts from its supplier which is usually one of the parts storage facilities. Supposing Parts become backordered.. that's where the parts take a while to come.
