I’ve recently come across this video and recently bought an r56 UK and come across the heat problem as it’s not running a heat shield from the previous owner did you put a turbo blanket or jacket over the turbo I’m trying to decide which would be better and my cat down pipe doesn’t have a heat shield either as it’s running slightly different to oem so I need to modifiy one

Forge just came out with a turbo blanket that can withstand 2500 degrees. Cost is only 115$ thru ecs tuning. Looks super bad ass also. Got one on order the first day it came out last week. Now you all know!! Get a Forge turbo blanket!

Hey, i really like your Work and Channel. There is actualy an OEM heat shield for this exactly Position on the Cover from Peugeot. Mounts in the threads of the block which arent used and works really good, i got on my r56 JCW. It costs around 15-20€.

I dropped my AEM Ram air intake and made a cut-out in the Bonnet just above the AEM Airfilter box which I kept. Then I installed another Aftermarket Scoop from Ebay and now I have an 10-11F* lower intake temperature.

Why not have a machine shop make the exact copy of the valve cover out of aluminum instead? Seems like it would be much more heat resistant, stronger, and almost the same weight, no? An entreprenuerial spirit could make a penny selling those worldwide.

What size are the valve cover bolts? M6 X 35MM, grade 8.8?

Why did you not fabricate a exhoust manifold that puts the turbo further away from the valve cover? i guess i does not fit, but you can never go wrong with a turbo sticking half way up the hood ;) great vid, keep them coming

dude there are a lot of companies that make an aluminum valve cover for the mini and it's not expensive

Hey Alex, have you seen the Peugeot RCZ R heat shield? It fits on the N14 and gives you a bit of extra protection

1:45 there are several OEM options out there for less than $200. I’m battling a leaky valve cover gasket and turbo oil feed seals. Second time in three years/20k miles.

What Diverter valve was that? Im also building a little mini monster 😈

Mini did a recall with an upgraded valve cover just contact them also don't run the aem plate stoping the heat escaping

You forgot a couple more faul point timing chain and the HPFP.

Make sure, when you spend all those time doing the shield, just go buy another valve cover. It will save you time and $$$.

You need and air gap between your valve cover and that foil, so radiated heat can be reflected. As installed, the foil, being in contact with the valve cover will transfer the heat. If you cant create this air gap then your strategy should be based on insulating, not on reflecting the heat. Hope this is useful to solve your problem.

ok 1st issue the epoxy putty you use has an operating temp less then 150C unfortunately the hot side of the turbo & the engine itself usually see temperatures above this! the putty isn't going to last very long at all & yes I've used this & no it didn't last long!! if you want a good all rounder!! a simple solution "no more nails glue!" works excellently & I've applied this to my intake heat shielding & my carbon fibre heat shield behind the turbo... along with other applications on other vehicles!!!! the basic fibre-glass heat wrap sheets with aluminium foil works great in heat protection & again is held in place with no more nails (apply to anything other then the turbo & exhaust this way & you'll see great results & its easy to work with!! (I'll snap a short video tomorrow of my heat shield if interested as its easy to make for anyone even in plane metal) you also fail to mention the issue regarding the rubber valve cover gasket which also fails due to the excessive heat from the turbo.... ok heres a simple solution.. just below the front of the valve cover you'll notice a small ledge with 2 threaded bolt holes either side LH/RH of the ledge. make a plate that bolts to this ledge & goes behind the turbo hotside & behind the oil line! "problem solved" you can add heat shielding to this heat shield to give further protection from radiate heat & any future oil leaks via failed oil lines etc also as you've a fully sealed engine vent you'd also benefit from having it slightly open to allow hot air from the turbo to vent out when the cars stationary, which also aids under bonnet temperatures!!
