A visit to Chimp Eden
For animal lovers a visit to Chimp Eden ( A non-profit organization) is highly recommended. If you are an international tourist visiting the Kruger National Park, visiting Chimp Eden is about an hour away from the Malalane gate.
Chimp Eden is part of the Jane Goodall Institute.
A sanctuary for chimpanzees that have been rescued from various African countries that were victims of the bush meat and illegal pet trade. The JGI is an incredible organization with various projects all aimed at making the world a better place. With the inspiration of Dr Jane Goodall it is run with love and inspires hope that we can make the world a better place. With chimpanzees critically endangered - hope is needed but mostly - urgent changes and action.
Statistics don’t tell the tragic story of the illegal pet trade and bush meat trade. Human and chimp DNA is 98.8 percent the same, and yet chimpanzees are still killed for their meat. Chimpanzees are still illegally sold to the pet trade. On average 8 to 10 adults are killed during the capture of the babies, the orphaned babies are often injured and severely traumatized during the capture. Many of them die from the stress, injury or starvation during the journey to the illegal buyer or they are caged or kept on chains with no shelter, some for years with no stimulation, social interaction or proper care.
We can make a difference - don’t watch or support any animal that is exploited for human entertainment. Instead visit or support reputable sanctuaries or animals in the wild.
To find out more about the JGI - Chimp Eden and the delightful chimps in their care - visit their website
“Only if we understand - can we care
Only if we care - will we help
Only if we help will they be saved”
Dr Jane Goodall.

There are over 140,000 of these super intelligent apes remained in the savannas and rain forests of Africa and along with Africa's other iconic apes the mountain gorilla (Gorilla beringei beringei) and bonobo/Pygmy chimpanzee, they're listed as endangered by the IUCN. Also along with the late Dian Fossey that studied mountain gorillas in Rwanda's volcanoes national park, Jane Goodall (That you've mentioned) has been studied eastern chimpanzees (Pan troglodytes schweinfurthii) in Tanzania's gombe stream national park since 1960 for over 63 years and still going strong!

Before we were married, my wife was a missionary in Africa for 1 year. She had the opportunity to eat a Chimp Steak one time that was donated to feed hungry natives thru the Bushmeat trade. She still likes to boast that her Chimp Steak was the best ribeye steak she has ever had!

That’s really sad and disgusting. These apes are critically endangered because of the bushmeat trade!

@@bonniepark6802 At least Cozi wouldn't be a total waste if they made some chimp burgers out of him ... don't know if they could get a good steak out of Cozi although Zach and Jao would probably make some good steaks. Chimp burgers ... my mouth is watering for a nice, delicious Cozi Burger!

What happened to that Andrew guy from the USA that the chimps of Chimp Eden tried to make burgers out of. Thanks to Eugene and his trusted Uzi, the chimps only ended up with a few tasty finger sandwiches! :) I bet the Toe Sandwiches weren't quite as good, but who knows when it comes to Chimps. Chimps might love the taste of fungus-laden feet better. Chimps love to eat poop (especially their own poop) and there's plenty of videos that show that. :(

They’ve all been through horrid experiences, most suffered hunger , daily due to lack of food from their owners or handlers, trainers, zoo keepers, so each one has suffered, Meal time seems to me a very stressful time, because of their past history’s I guess most still fear they won’t get any,, mich anxiety surrounding food ,,

Chimps are like the dinosaurs, they are too wild and uncontrollable for the modern world and their world has been shrinking at an exponential rate for some time. This is especially true as Africa has become overpopulated and man continues to intrude and expel chimps from their last bastions of habitat. In fact, they have no habitat left except for Kibale Forest National Park in southwestern Uganda, the Nyungwe Forest in Rwanda, the Mahale Mountains and Gombe Stream in Tanzania and a few scattered internment camps like Chimp Eden and the Tchimpounga Sanctuary Unfortunately, the future for chimps is inevitable. They will be completely exterminated by man.

When the food was being thrown, Jaoa was in front, Tony is who is Alpha make was behind him. Watch escape to Chimp Eden, you’ll see Tony as a baby. Zach was grooming Jaoa. Cozy has broken all of his front teeth since the last time I seen him. 2 oops babies born in the sanctuary.

Eugene broke Cozi's teeth because he wanted to stop him from biting the fingers off the girls that worked there. Cozi was abused by a woman before Eugene "rescued" him and he hates all women even to this day!
