He had his MP40 in hand but in that very moment he panicked and completely forgot about it so he went for his helmet and used that as a weapon instead.
not really. it just shows that during war, there are no rules. it's all about killing the men who are deemed the "enemy" in any which way. It's not like they will go into different directions if they are out of ammo.
I remember we were shown this scene in a stage combat class and the instructor used this as an example of what happens when adrenaline and your 'flight or fight' instinct are on full blast
Thats why you are meant to keep your knife/bayonet somewhere very easy to get within your eyeline, and can be pulled downwards. Either make the decision to run away (usually better) or use all your weight to get under them and stab him up on the floor. In reality id probably stand there and slowly sht myself. We trained at it and with bayonets attached as well (british army were we use bayonets a lot still)
I was once in an engagement (nothing as close as this). We were having a patrol break and my section commander was drinking tea from his "battle flask". When the shooting started he stood up and threw his flask at them, sat down and said "why did I just do that" 😂
From what I understood a lot of these were actual things that happened during WW2. From the landing up to the end of the film, most of it was based on real events. Of course not all from the same person but each character would experience something great from each of the scenes.
Theeeee most badass. Few minutes later after getting shot a couple more times and asked if he was alright, he goes "I just got the wind knocked out of me, I'm fine"
Can't see anything fun in this, this is quite realistic, especiellay since weapons and tactics training was a lot different back then, more like shoot 5 rounds, then you're good to go. Sleep deprivation, extreme stress in a close quarter combat, you don't make the most logical decisions even if you are a professional. And hitting a target with a pistol is not as easy as one may think.
It's funny how, even after all these years, we've yet to see an FPS game that'll let you use a helmet (either yours, a teammate's, or an enemy's) as an improvised weapon.
back in ye olden days there was a quake 2 mod called "d-day invasion" (or something similar) i used to play back in the mid-2000s and it had a helmet throw mechanic. definitely not even close to the popularity of AAA games but it is what it is haha
Whenever I think of Tom Sizemore, I think of this role, he was beyond perfect. Nobody else could’ve played that character like he did. He actually achieved a decent amount of sobriety time shooting this movie, because Spielberg was drug testing him. Spielberg knew that he had a serious problem, but he still wanted him in the movie that much.
Yep. Not to mention threatening him with no matter how far we are in filming this movie if you pop on any drug test I will re shoot the entire thing with someone else in it.
This and Schindler's List are the only movies that accurately show what a human being getting shot looks like; you tend to either completely shrug it off for a period of time or you drop like a sack of bricks.
I agree. Plus, there are so many stories of people not even realizing that they had been shot or stabbed. All of that adrenaline, fight or flight mode, it makes me think of Jesse Ventura’s line in “predator”: “I ain’t got time to bleed”. I think it is just the body protecting itself, like get out of danger first, suffer the pain later (and live).
@@HamburgerTime209 so? Waffen SS are still people. Most of them just joined to support their families since the allies bombed the absolute sh*t out of Europe so their wasn’t any food left
One of my favourite scene in any movie, and in my opinion one of the greatest too. Just read the news. Came to pay homage! RIP to you Mr Sizemore. Loved you in every movie. You will be always missed. 🙏
He’s Just So Frustrated With The War And Getting Smacked With A Helmet, He Threw; What I Presume, Was His Last Weapon (His Pistol/Handgun) Just Out Of Sheer Anger And Frustration😂😂
This is literally me in battlefield 1 lol. I parachuted on the yard of a house, Me and the enemy keeps missing each other's shots to the point that we resorted to using melee weapons just to finally kill each other hahaha
gets shot in the leg in the open with the immediate threat in front of him dead… proceeds to continue stomping around cursing in the open with gunshots still firing rather that instinctively jump or get the f***down🤣
The challenge is that open top holsters won't protect against the elements. Also button/hood based holsters were to increase retention vs the thumbsnap.
People used to say "Why didn't the German get him first", pretty obvious now the dude probably was panic-pulling and had the safety on his sidearm still.
